Windows 7 takes FOREVER to load the user/switch user screen
Earlier today, I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some kind of error message, and then he led me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose the repair of the system, but then it seemed stuck in this process (it took forever and nothing happened), so I turned off the laptop (I don't know, not big), started in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from a week ago. The 'starting Windows' screen come and don't go, no problem. Everything seemed fine until I got to the selection screen of the user (by default blue with the little Hummingbird or something else). Then he just sat there, on this screen. I could see the Hummingbird and the wavy lines, but there is no button to click on my user. I just let it sit there and after about 5 minutes, the usernames popped up and I was able to continue to use the computer with no problems, no speed no questions whatsoever. Now, he makes me wait each time, always five minutes, pop up user names before. It does when I reboot the machine and when I try to switch users.
It's a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium
Let me know if you need any other specifications.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Tim
I ended up calling Norton myself and they have taken control of my laptop and uninstalled. It starts like a charm, thank you for your help!

Hi Zvika,
If running Chkdsk (according to the post of Ramesh Kumar) does not help, you can determine whether this problem is caused by third-party shell extensions. You can use ShellExView from Nirsoft to work.

I'm using Vista - Windows mail 6.0.6000
What is a POP3 account? If so, see if the problem persists if you uncheck the send & receive Messages at startup.
A few steps, you can try.
- Delete the account, restart, and then add it again.
- Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Computer takes forever to load, the files have no icon
Hello!
Since yesterday, I have this problem: when I open computer, the green bar at the top starts to load, there are magnifiers on computer, libraries and Favorites in the left pane and nothing appears in the main pane of Solution Explorer. If I manually navigate to any folder by typing the address, it takes me to this folder, but there is no icons for the files or folders. Although, they open as expected, may be renamed etc., but right click on explore crashes. The desktop icons, menu start and see the control panel correctly.
No recent program has been installed. Before this problem occurred I accessed a suspicious Web page (from a USB key), but...
I scanned with Malwarebytes, Spybot, ESET, ran ChkDsk, sfc/scannow.
They have all found nothing except the sfc found 2 corrupt files that could not be repaired.
Important the fact is that in Safe Mode, I have the same problem!
Can someone help me on this?

Correction, I had a virus, but it wasn't the problem.
I reinstalled windows and all programs, one by one and that the problem was back, but now I now why! The problem occurred after installing Acronis True Image 2013, because I have disabled its services to run automatically. It seems that Acronis is not like that... and he wants to force me unnecessary services running, most of the time. After you have enabled services, the problem disappeared. :) Good to know!

Survey: I started the computer in safe mode, that the logging in process works very well. I thought it might be a mistake with the scanner finger print driver device manager still had no problems with it, but I discovered the + security processor loader driver + had the error code read 24 ' + this device is not present, is not working properly or is not all its drivers installed + ' I couldn't find something online that explains how to fix this error.Note: I said that the splash screen was previously empty and contained only the vista background startup and loading icon turns with the words "+ Please wait +" and a flick every now and then as if failure to sign what ever he was having problems with. I don't know when that changed sypmtones as now he did not come with please wait and an icon of spinning but rather with + just + ease of use and close buttons.

Had the same problems with 6 Ff. 1/4 to 1/3 of the pages take forever to load. Sometimes I can make by highlighting the URL and pressing Enter. Sometimes the activity indicator turn right and pirouettes and page never loads. Mark-up appear sometimes where the images should be. Home of the New York Times, for example, partially supported (some missing images) but the links to take forever.
Open the topic: config page through the address bar and do a search for network.http via the filter at the top of the about: config page.
You can reset all network.http associated prefs which appear "BOLD" (user set) via the context menu to their default values. It is generally not a good idea to change these preferences, and these changes can have the opposite effect, by activating especially pipelining for servers that do not support this feature.

Hello
try a restore of the system before this happened

If necessary do in safe mode

Using the F8 method:
- Restart your computer.
- When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
- Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
- Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
- To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
- Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

If you ever have to reinstall Vista
Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it
they do it for a nominal cost of $
also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought
you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer
Ask them of the exact key sequence
or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc
Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer
they contain all versions of vista
This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed
