Windows experience Score - low main drive...

Hey Gang,

My i7 rig runs just great for editing, no complaints. I had a look on the score of WE and I myself 7.3 or better in all categories except the primary hard drive (screenshot attached). I don't mean to fix it (it is not broken!) but I'm curious to know why Windows hates my hard drive. My guess is because I'm not in RAID for my OS drive. I'm running a 300 GB Raptor, and everything I installed is Win 7 64 bit, CS4 Production Premium and a few plugins and NeoScene. MS Office does NOT reside on this PC! He got 219GB 279 GB free, so it is quite skinny, and I regularly defrag with O & O Defrag. Anyway, my guess is that 5.9 is high for a single disc... am I pretty sure about it?

Paulie

(for the curious, I run assets out of another drive, project files on another, and a third for scratch disks and various junk... everything is at 7200 RPM Caviar Black except for the reader to spam, I went at low cost with a blue WD 7200) If it doesn't, no problem. Indeed, I have no RAID subsystems, but would not affect primary partition HD anyway)

The Velociraptor tops out at a score of 5.9. I am not satisfied with the performance of my system, always first place on the reference http://ppbm4.com and third place on the results of http://www.passmark.com/baselines/top.html . Nevertheless, I have almost identical to your results:

It seems to be the limitation of the WES. I would not attach any weight to these results. Eventually, it requires an OCZ Colossus as boot device to achieve a score plus 7.0.

My laptop with MS Office reached only 5.5-5, 9-5, 9 - 5.0 - 5.0 is totally unsuitable for editing.

  • What is happening in the disc of Windows Experience Score? __

I had a question: what is needed for 'Windows Experience Index' regarding the 'Disk Performance paragraph' to get a 6.9 or 7.9 score?

He says it's for disk transfer speed, but what it takes?  I have a 6.7 rating on my hard drive, but I think it's on the low side.  I have my full disk defragmented and it is a SAS 15 K 4xRAID0 facility that uses only the 1st third of the Bay of virtual disks.  I've timed to between 300-400 MB/s.  If that rate only a 6.7, I can't help but wonder what kind of hard drive MS could wait a good "windows experience".  I thought an SSD could be the answer, and tried with one of these.  There only speeds of reading/writing of 85 MB/s (i.e. slower by about 75% than my table), but it's looking for time (which are not easily measurable) are, I'm sure, below.  Nevertheless, I put in place as a ReadyBoost device and, when I reinstalled Win7 recently, I had left in the system and it is used as the 'system', although the picture is the 'C' drive with the operating system, real (and device Boot/dump).  I'm not sure what that means the SYSTEM, but if I don't keep it in the machine during start-up, the machine does not start now.  Hmmm... large.

So what is required for a good disc sub-score anyway?  The rest of my scores are of the order of 7.3 to 7.8, which is predictable given the hardware in each of the categories, but I'm surprised that the disk partition is so low.

    Ideas?  Points of view?

I wanted to say that there the HDD that can catch your 'Windows Experience Index' upto score mounted 7.9 always Microsoft!

  • A 5.7 Windows Experience score is good?

    ^ ^ ^ Subject.

    Hello gamemaster406,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

You are referring to the Windows Experience Index scores?  If so, I added some information and the link for more information.  You have a score of base and a under-score for software and hardware.  With a score of 5.7 to a base score would be great.  Please let us know status.  Thank you!

Windows Experience Index measures the capability of the hardware and software of your computer configuration and expresses this measurement as a number called a base score. A higher base score means that your computer will perform better and faster than a computer with a score of lower base, especially when more advanced and resource-intensive tasks running.

Each hardware component receives an individual under-score. Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore. For example, if the lower under-score of a hardware component is 2.6, then the base score is 2.6. The base is not one score average combined subscores.

The base scores currently range from 1 to 5.9 The Windows experience index is designed to accommodate advances in computer technology. As improves the performance and the speed of the hardware, higher base scores will be introduced. However, the standards for each level of the index remain the same. For example, a computer scored as a 2.8 will remain a 2.8 unless you decide to upgrade the hardware.

I make games and want to raise the number since his games interest me I think that the number is much higher.  What can I do?

You will need to install a new graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 9800/Ati Radeon HD 4850 or better, that's what I recommend) to raise the number.

The reason why your Windows Experience Index base score is low, it is that the speed of a computer is always the speed of its slowest component.

Once your graphics hardware has later graphics drivers installed or Web site of the manufacturer of the computer or the manufacturer of the graphics card, that's all.

The only way to improve the graphical result is to buy and install a better graphics card.

  • Put the new upgrade of Windows 10 on my 500 gig SSD and make the main drive (C :)

    Original title: Windows 10

You want to install (upgrade) new Windows 7 Pro 64) Windows 10.  No problem.

Here's my question and need help.  I want to put the upgrade of Windows new 10 on my 500 gig SSD and make the main drive (C :)  Just got new PC and the SSD is not yet installed in the new machine.

Is there a way to do this?  I can install the SSD drive in the pc without problems.  But the pc is set up with the C: drive in the primary.  As I understand it, the update will work, but it will not be for the SSD.

    Suggestions?  Is this possible?

Windows 7 installation will have to be eliminated if its currently on a separate disk. Which means you have to start over.

I would first disconnect the hard drive with your Windows 7 installation.

Install the SSD drive, then install Windows Pro 10 on this subject.

Download and create a bootable copy of Windows 10 Pro:

  • Tecra A10-112 - Windows Experience Index 3.4?

The WEI score is 3.4 with all default settings. The details are the following:

    Processor: 5.4
    Memory: 5.1
    Graphics (office performance): 3.4
    Games graphics: 3.6
    Hard drive: 5.2

I know that the integrated graphics card isn't help the score in any way. Toshiba A300D-15 b with AMD CPU 2.1 scores 4.8 which has a graphics card dedicated.

Do not play games, but the disappointing thing is that the performance of office are less than the score of the game.

Now the question is do I seriously take WEI or the integrated graphics (Intel GMA 4500MHD) is quite good for the time being and for Windows 7?

Please take into account the fact that A10 - 112 has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I think to the graphics card integrated is no match for this resolution in particular with Vista, what you think?

    Hello

To be honest I think nothing of it. The Windows experience index is ok, but in my opinion it s not really significant.

    But some values are interesting;
As much as I know graphics performance score Office represents s graphic performance of the system using the Windows Aero Desktop feature. As you've experienced the Aero needs a lot of graphical resources and in my opinion, this value is lower.

But generally the Mobile Intel GMA 4500MHD isn't bad.
Graphics memory (performance) can increase the upgrade of the main RAM.
Thus, for example Vista 32 bit OS:

    RAM 1 GB - dedicated video memory = 64 MB - system memory shared = 158MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 286MB
    2 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 702MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 830MB shared system memory
RAM 3 GB - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory
4 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory

    Vista 64-bit OS:
    RAM 1 GB - dedicated video memory = 64 MB - system memory shared = 158MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 286MB
    2 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 702MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 830MB shared system memory
RAM 3 GB - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory
4 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1631 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1759 MB shared system memory

  • Higher of Windows Experience Index rating with OLD machines

I'm a computer technician at the Brazil. I noticed that a few old machines, certain factors, have better performance than current. The difference is not visible in the points leader, but in use. Open programs or install a LOT more quickly. When this happened, the performance index, marks high score for HD as 7.3 for common HDD Samsung F3 (different from normal 5.9). Stroller?
    Anyone know anything about this?

    Examples:

    Machine 1:

    Motherboard: ECS A785GM-M

    Processor: Athlon X 4 640

    RAM: 2 x 2 GB Kingston DDR3 1333 Mhz

    HARD drive: Samsung 1 TB

    HD Wei score: 7.3

    Machine 2:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H

    CPU: Intel i7 2500 K
    RAM: 4 x 4 GB Kingston DD3 1333 Mhz

    HDD: Raid0 2 x HD 1 TB SATA3 SEAGATE 7200 RPM ST100DM003

    HD Wei score: 6.1

The first machine, "slower" than the second victory of common (open, install, manipulate programs, etc.). In the benchmarks, the second victory. Together with the operating system Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with updated drivers.

    Sorry my bad English.

    Hello VbCrayon,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Score index performance Windows (WEI) rates your computer on the five main elements, giving you a number for each. Your base score overall, the one that really counts, is as good as your worst performing component. If your video card and monitor are top of the range, but the capabilities of your processor or memory trolling, the primary partition of WEI will be the same as that obtained by the
    slower part.

This may not seem fair. But for the average PC user, a low or intermediate Windows experience index score is very good. Your computer will be powerful enough to run the popular Microsoft Office programs (such as Microsoft Word), surf the Internet, store and edit photos, and communicate via a webcam.

Your computer
base score is determined by the lowest subscore.
