Windows Explorer fails repeatable

Windows Explorer fails to 3 or 4 times an hour with the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working".  I check "search for a solution online and restart the program" and it reboots, the problem event name: APPCRASH
Application name: Explorer.EXE
Application version: 6.1.7601.17567
Application timestamp: 4d672ee4
Fault Module name: mfc90u.dll

Any help would be appreciated.

If all goes well, who was the culprit.  If you look at the tab "Details" of the properties of a file, you will find the version information that I was talking about.

  • Windows Update fails repeatedly to install updates KB3079904 and six other people, keep trying for 3 weeks now

Drop support for Windows Vista is apparently present but perhaps without notice.

Three weeks since July 14, 2015 Windows Update has repeatedly tried and failed to install seven updates. Three other updates cannot be installed while in time (KB3072633, KB3057154, KB3065979) but was finally installing manually through Microsoft Download Center.  Further attempts by MDC didn't settle because "the update does not apply to your system" (KB3070102, KB3067903).  KB3072630 update did not show an available option of Windows Vista.  The remaining updates would download a version of Vista but just have not installed (KB3070102, KB3079904, KB309392, KB3067505 and KB3065822, which is a Cumulative of IE9 for Windows Vista update).

With no fix that works my PC will apparently try to download these and other updates in perpetuity.  Some files, such as KB915597, is constantly to be installed and reinstalled successfully during this time.

Anyone who has had this experience, knows the problem, may suggest a solution (with the exception of maintenance by pressing F5 and possibly restart in frustration, which helps during some time)?

  • Windows Explorer crashes repeatedly on startup and cannot choose a restore point?

Equipped with Vista 64-bit... Had a problem for a while opening now and then records that have videos in them.  I could open other programs (email, etc.), but not the files with the Solution Explorer or Explorer would crash.  Not a big deal and I did have the time to fix it (no online seemed to know anyway).

Trying to send two videos to two friends via Skype, somehow shortcuts placed got video on my desktop and Explorer crashed.  Whenever he finishes crashing and returns, it crashes again so I can't even get rid of them by removing their or whatever it is.  It crashes so quickly, that you can not even click on one.

I tried to reboot (har har) and even in safe mode, what happens.  I tried to go to a system restore, but it tells me that the System Restore Wizard is already running when it is obviously not.  I don't really know what I can do at this point, that the only thing that stops it is the cancellation of the application of Solution Explorer, but then I can't access anything that anyone else.  If only I could get the icons on my desktop, I could solve the problem with the videos, but I can't even get to them to get rid of them.

Please help, I really need to use this PC this week and I tried almost everything I can think of at my disposal.

The 'failing module' is the kernel32.dll file, which is a Windows file.

However, the problem can actually be someone else, possibly from third parties, of the file.

It may be useful to try to capture a dump of user of the explorer.exe crash mode.

You can configure Windows to create dumps of user mode. First, create a System Restore Point.

If you copy and paste the following text in Notepad and save it as a .reg file, then right click on the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, when the .dmp file explorer.exe plant should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder" = hex (2): 43, 00, 3A, 00, 5 c 00, 43, 00, 72, 00, 61, 00, 73, 00, 68, 00, 44, 00, 75,.
    00, 6 D, 00, 70, 00, 73, 00, 00, 00

After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, you can, and then make the .dmp file available (provide the link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?

I would say that we have a look at your management context menus. There might be something integrated Explorer causing crash.

    1. download the utility Shell here:
    http://www.Nirsoft.net/utils/shexview_setup.exe

    2. Once opened, the utility looks for the components. After the scan, sort results by 'Type' and then expand the "Company name" field, so that you can read all
    3. the idea here would be to disable all THE items in the category 'Context Menu' that are NOT part the category of company name "Microsoft Corporation". Basically, if a context menu, and it doesn't say Microsoft for the extreme right, do a right-click and disable the entry

    4. once all the non Microsoft context menus are disabled, click on the button 'Save' at the top
    5. then restart your computer.

    Welcome to the @Wm_Dailey forums

I read your post about the question of impression you have with your Officejet 8500. The good news is that if the printer copies, scans or faxes, the printer itself works fine, and the problem is more in the software, the driver or the operating system.

I will do my best to help you with this. In order to find the best info, I would need to know if you are working with Windows Vista or Windows 7 and what 8500 model you have.

Let me know and I will check it for you.

I can't do any further due to the standard contextual windows alert, and the message goes between the "network name is not available" and the message "already mapped the drive. Hi Dgbjr68,

    Try the following steps.

    Step 1

Check the behavior in SafeMode with network and post back the result.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Step 2

You can also try to temporarily disable the firewall on your computer and check the status.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

NOTE: Enable the firewall after trying this step.

I suspect a corrupted system file. SFC could fix that. Reset Internet Explorer can help. At worst, I think you can fix it with a relocation, or "inplace upgrade" Win 7 from the installation DVD.

To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    1. click Startand type cmd in the box start the search .

2 right-click cmd in the programs list and then click run as administrator.

    3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue

    4. at the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER: sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

Update KB2631813 for Windows XP security repeatedly failed to install - error code 0 x 8007003. All other updates install successfully. None of the proposed solutions have worked so far including clear update history.

    should [1] I really KB2631813?

[2] my computer seems not to like it.

[3] do you think that KB2631813 is really all this effort?

A1. Yes, as much as you need at every update of safety critical other.

Note that the vulnerability being patched (e.g., MS12-004) requires KB2598479 and KB2631813 to install! IOW, your computer is still vulnerable to the exploit if if KB2631813 is not installed.

A2. Your computer 'loved' KB975562 (which is replaced or replaced by KB2631813), so it should also 'like' KB2631813.

A3. Is the security of your computer and data to this topic (e.g., banking online & credit card passwords) really this effort?

  • Windows Explorer crashes failed msvcr90.dll

    Friends

I have this most annoying problem. It happens on my computer and the computer of a friend. I have Vista Pro 64 bit and my friend a Windows 7 Home Premium, also 64-bit.

We both use the same two programs for a specific project, we want to do. A program is a data management program called FieldWorks, where export us the data in the format of LibreOffice. I think that this problem started during the installation of LibreOffice and then begins to export stuff in the program of FieldWorks.

Very often, when we click on an exported file in .odt (LibreOffice) on the desktop, or simply click anywhere in a folder on the desktop, where we store .odt files, then immediately the Windows Explorer crashes with the following error message:

Explorer Windows has stopped working. Windows can check online... Check online... The details of the problem are:

Problem signature: problem event name: BEX64 Application name: the Explorer.EXE Application Version: 6.0.6002.18005 timestamp of the Application: 49e02a1e fault Module name: MSVCR90.dll fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.6161 fault Module Timestamp: 4dace4e7 Exception offset: Code of Exception 00000000000552d 4: c0000417 data exception: 0000000000000000 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.6 locale ID: 1033 additional information 1: complementary 46e0 2 information: information additional 4ce498f1e2ebb3719af008d4ef97bedc 3 : 7 d 05 additional information 4: 729ac305dabb24e28fbe99019ecbbab7
Also my friend and I get the exact same message and the same fault Module name and version. It can happen several times in a row, insofar as we cannot get to any of the .odt files in the folder via the Windows Eplorer window or desktop, but I got a remove the .odt file in a command window.  Otherwise just Explorer to crash. :-(

I tried many things to fix this, among them:
    1. I re-entered the msvcr90.dll
    2. I learned that it is the program of MS Visual C++ 2008 that installs this msvcr90.dll and use it
    3. I removed all instances of MS Visual CC ++ Vista computer
    4. I removed all instances of the msvcr90.dll and restarted. Then I made sure that no file with this name has appeared again.
    5. even after that I still get this crash explore with this error message about this being the fault module msvcr90.dll!
    6. I used Windows find defective or missing files, sfc scannow. No gain.

How this possible error, if there is no msvcr90.dll is left on the system? And no Visual C++ 2008?

I then tried to reinstall MS Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable to see if that helped, but once again no change. :-( The same error came once again. This version of Visual C++ have not yet installed a version of msvcr90.dll but a msvrc100_XXX.dll

Until I deleted the MS Visual C++ 2008 (and 2005 and 2010) of my system, I noticed that the existing msvcr90.dll was not even the same version that says that this error report is the version of the Module of fault!

I am quite at a loss here. What can I do to solve this problem, which is annoying and time consuming? I could send one .odt files, someone at Microsoft to look at, or what?

    Thank you

The problem seems to be the shlxthdl_x64.dll:

The shlxthdl_x64.dll, which is at version 3.6.1.2, is a component of LibreOffice.

The error that you are experiencing seems to be a known issue:

    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52078

This problem can be fixed in an update of LibreOffice, so make sure you're running the latest version.

If you are running the latest version of LibreOffice or if the error persists you can try the following:

    Go to the following folder:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \LibreOffice 3.6\program\shlxthdl

In this folder, right-click and rename the shlxthdl_x64.dll to shlxthdl_x64.old.
