Windows Media Player 12: can you download videos on this version?
Just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 operating system and the new Windows Media Player 12 installed. With older versions of media player, I could easily download videos and others from the internet that I backed up on an external hard drive. What to do on the new version 12? If not, are there instructions anywhere on HOW to save files that are downloaded from the internet? I spent several hours trying to figure this out. Thank you very much.
Download videos? Like download Youtube, etc?
You can always buy/download videos of microsoft online store

My copy of windows media player 11 does not play video.
My copy of windows media player 11 does not play video. When you try to play the video (usually an avi file) I get audio and visualization. I tried to uninstall and install new, but does not. I chose also to all types of files media player by default but video still does not play.
An avi file is simply a container that may have different types of files in it for video and audio.
You probably don't have the correct Codec to play the video.
Either download a codec pack such as K-lite or download a little program called G-spot, open it and drag your avi file in the center of the small window of G-spot.
It will then tell you what Codec uses the avi file. You can then Google that particulat Codec, download and install it.
See you soon,.

Windows media player crashes when you start cd play
When I insert a CD in windows media player, screen freezes when cd starts playing and the sound is chopy.
Hi RonnieDean,
- Did you the latest changes on the computer?

- You have security software installed on the computer?
Method 1
See the link below and run the fixit tool available, check if it helps.

Method 2
If the previous step fails, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

Windows Media Player does not display a video
I use Windows XP.
No apparent reason my Windows Media Player has stopped playing the video on the .avi files, probably after an update of Windows XP, but I can't say for sure. (Things tend to stop working after these updates of what is called). I've updated for Windows media Player version 11 and up would not display any video, even from DVD, so I rolled back to version 10, but got the same result. Audio files play normally with animated graphics display.
Any ideas?
