  I use a laptop which has downgraded from Vista Home to Windowx XP Pro w / SP2 (although maybe it's not relevant). Issues installing security updates through Windows Update before today have never known. I am prompted to install the update from a security XP KB956744, what I have done. I installed it through Windows Update and automatic command prompt directly. I even posted the update as something to ignore, but I am always prompted to install it. I also tried to uninstall the version on my machine, and then reinstall the update, but I am always prompted to install it.

  Two questions:
  1. because I received a prompt saying that it has been successfully installed and it appears in Add/Remove Programs, I can safely assume that it has been installed successfully even if I continue to prompt to install it?
  2. If my previous question is true, how can I window update to ignore this update even if I have already reported as such by the normal means?

  Go to add or remove programs and look for the KB956744-security update and remove it.

  Download the stand-alone package of KB956744-security update

  Restart the computer and boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during the restart, and then press and selecxt safe mode.

  Install the downloaded file update in safe mode.

  The Shut Down on the start menu tab always indicates that there ae updates available.  This persists even after manually searching for and downloading updates.

  Then Microsoft Fixit has been executed, the computer has restarted, and 5 updates have been installed.  But the start menu still indicates that there are updates available.

  There are several things you pourriez try, but they would probably be a lot of time and very well could get you not out of the Woods.  What I would do would be to back up data, you must keep and restore the computer to factory settings.  The procedure to do this is documented in the user guide which you should be able to find by clicking on start-> all programs and the name of the manufacturer of your computer.

  When you got your system back as you, I invite you to buy an external hard drive, and a good backup 3rd party program. You can configure it to automatically do everything in time and frequency of your choice. External hard drives 1 TB are about $85 these days and a very good FREE backup program is the Easeus todo backup free that you can download from
  http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm . Who can make you save a lot of time and frustration, the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later, it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

  It seems that if the this update does not work properly.  Where Sony allows you to download this update to live?  It is on the site of Sony or a Web to Realtek site?  You will need to contact the creator of this driver and know if there is a new one and/or give the problem you are having because they will have to fix this.
