You're right about my surfing habits that I will reform.    A question about your advice on the use of malicious software byets, it's that I've seen messages on different sites, I think of people from acroos Malware saying not to use software malware byets in safe mode?

What is the right way to go about this... Also what one user on my system so make the road do you offer?

The usual recommendation is to use the program in normal mode - but some infestations are resistant to the suppression in Normal Mode, so it may be necessary to run mode without fail to ensure eradication.
The scan in safe mode tends to be a bit slower - but I've never found that missing something that is later found in Normal Mode.
As far as I KNOW, MalwareBytes recommends running the quick scan, rather than on the full analysis - I prefer to do plenty of analysis in the main user account and a quick scan on all other accounts. I suspect that the reason for the recommendation is that a full scan can take a lot of time on a system with many files (I know that it can take more than three hours on this machine, for example), and some people will tend to cancel the race, rather than let him finish, which can lead to missing detections.

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leave the file system, Web,.
Operational network (Script and behavior are also recommended in Ver 6 +).

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie

I use windows XP Home Edition. It takes awhile to start when I turn on the computer. How can I speed up this process?

    original title: slow start
    • Faster processor.
    • Fastest hard drive.
    • Faster or more RAM/memory.
    • Less things loading at startup.
    • Appropriate and the most recent hardware device drivers.

In XP, you can cleanup and optimize it in some way, by using the following tips:

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

  • Windows 7 by taking a lot of time to start!

    Dear Sir.

I have a few questions here, and I hope that someone could help me with them. my laptop in the first days it takes only about 30 seconds to start windows, but now I need more than 90 seconds to start windows. I have the machine of SONY (VAIO), model number is CPCCW2S1E. I need to know what takes a long time for the computer to boot. and I would like to know whether the registry is incharge somehow on this subject. I work with photo and video stuff, I always install and uninstall programs, so I thought that maybe make my pc speed. and if the regestry is incharge thereon, is there somehow or no software to clean the registry database or to do something? If there is no recommended program, let me know please...

    Is your system error free?

To access the system log, select Start, Control Panel, administrative tools, Event Viewer, in the list on the left of the window select Windows and the system logs. Place the cursor on the system, right click and select filter current log. Check the front of the error and click OK and see you only reports errors. Click header to sort on the Date and time. You may need to click a second time to see the last report above.

A tip for posting copies of error reports! Run Event Viewer and double-click the error you want to copy. In the window, you will see a button resembling two pages. Click on the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message and paste it into the body of the message. Make sure that it is the first dough right out of the event viewer.

I suggest you download Process Explorer.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/ProcessExplorer.mspx

This freeware utility performs a similar function to the Windows Task Manager, but it goes much further.

In process Explorer, please add a column. Select View, Select, columns, process, performance, and check the box before the start time. Then, select "Show processes from all Users" and click on the 'Start Time' column header. This will sort so that you can see start with the first sooner. You may need to click twice or three times.

On my Windows 7 machine, the first point I see is smss.exe = Manager of Session. You should then see a long list of items over a short period of time to load. The boot process is not responding on my computer with two files AVG loading (my anti-virus is AVG 10. Before these two files is a file uns.exe that loaded this morning 2 minutes and 20 seconds after smss.exe. USN.exe is a file of Intel, so may not be on your computer.

Questions. How long it take to smss.exe loading to the main files to load? What are the files that arrive at the end, and how long does it take so that they appear after smss.exe?
Can you also detail what anti-malware software is installed?

    Hi WillieGuyton,

    (1) since when are you facing this problem?

    (2) remember to make changes?

    (3) what is the complete error message you receive?

    (4) what is the number of brand and model of your computer?

    Method 1:

Step 1: disconnect any external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...)  Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue.  Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

Set the first boot device in the DVD in BIOS to boot from the Windows Installation DVD. To do this, see the documentation that came with the computer.

Important: Change BIOS (Basic input output system) /semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • I get a message pop up every time I start the Explorer about the AOL toolbar

I don't know if this link posted, but I stuck again here:

    http://ImageShack.us/photo/my-images/641/screenhunter01nov082256.gif/

This is a screenshot of a message that I always get when I start Explorer. This message appears twice, but the screen comes up and once again (same message) when the window opens, but before my home page is displayed. My home page is supposed to be Bing.com, but I think that the Explorer wants to take me to AOL.com. (I think that this version of the browser has been optimized for AOL).

I want to get rid of this message. I uninstalled AOL Toolbar, but that has not worked. So, how can I get rid of this message?

Contact AOL support and ask them how to remove their browser.

  • Windows xp cpu benchmarks more than three times slower than on windows 7 running on my i5 760 image

I ran cpu benchmarks under xp on a pent. 4 @ 3 GHz and an i5 quad processor. @ 2.9 ghz and got almost the same results.

However when I run the same test on the i5 quad. processor the platform of windows 7, I get 3.5 times the speed.

It seems to me the xp runs only on a single core i5 quad.  I also understand that taskmanger XP has a

additional oppition called 'set afinity' when you right click on a process and run multi cores or processors. This isn't there?

My question is how to make xp to use all 4 cores. It should be quick blazeing and it's not. And while windows 7 is really

most enjoyable of my software does not work on it. I need my xp and it wouldn't hurt if it was really fast.

    Hi carlcrone,

What version of Service Pack is installed on your computer?

Windows XP supports quad core processors. I recommend you to ask your question to TechNet for assistance.

  • Please can someone help with: __Windows can not find C windows system rundll32 exe?

    I don't have a windows xp disc

    Hello Alcocer,

Thank you for your message.  Click HERE and try a system restore to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.  If this does not work, you need an XP disk to run a repair of the system.
