Wireless signal recognized but not internet connectivity: laptop HP 2000, model QE334UA, Windows 7

I have a 2000 Notebook PC HP, Model # QE334UA, running Windows 7.  The wireless signal is showing all the bars at the bottom right, but I am unable connect wireless to what anyone (for example, any web browser, Outlook, Dropbox).  When you connect via a LAN, however, I have no problem.  Here are some details on what I tried:

1.) this same problem occurs on all the networks I tried, even if the other computers are on these networks, is not a problem of router/modem.  Yet, I restarted those and nothing helped.

Rebooted 2.) the computer.

3.) done a system restore.

4.) checked IPV4 settings make sure IP & DNS server addresses are configured to automatically get.

5.) turned on and off the wireless on the keyboard button.

6.) as gone with the Device Manager and press update driver software for all network adapters.

7.) deactivated and reactivated all NICs.

I have read many other forums - than where I got these ideas- and it seems a common problem, but I could not find an answer that works.  I'm not too technically savvy, so maybe I'm missing something, but any help would be LARGELY APPRECIATED, especially because my warranty just expired.

Thank you

Zack

I have it!  It turns out that my SonicWall VPN has been the origin of the problem.  Thank you!

  • WRT54G good signal wireless but no internet connectivity.

I have a WRT54G that has worked well for about a year. Last Sunday, I installed a couple of small updates from Microsoft on my main computer (cable via an ethernet cable from the router). At the same time, I installed service pack 3 on my girls (wireless) counter top.

Since that time, on my three computers wireless I shows the strength of very good signal from the router but no internet connectivity. Internet works fine on the computer by cable.

I have reset the router, no luck. Updated the firmware, no luck. Released and renewed until the cows came home and still no luck.

I uninstalled the router of my main computer and reinstalled. During the installation it tells me that the router cannot find the internet even if the computer that works is connected through the router.

I tried a different router (even part old version) which was a router to work when uninstalled about six months ago. I went through the installation process and it is the same, the router cannot find the internet.

Is it possible to have two bad routers that the internet can pass through but the router cannot detect?

At first I thought changing the setting of the Microsoft updates, but I restored my computer to a date before the updates and still have the same problem.

Any help that anyone can give is most appreciated.

Well there are some knows the problem with Service Pack 3 from Microsoft with wireless connectivity. You can uninstall SP3 from your computer and it will not solve the problem.

  • WRTG54S to connect to the network, but not internet

I have a WRTG54S and Mediacom 12mbps. My router worked fine on my old laptop (a Dell Vista), he was sitting in a box for about 6 months and now that I have a new (Sony running 7) I can connect to my network, but not internet. I have updated the firmware of 7.6 to 7.8 without change. I have tried no security, wep and wap without change. Also, I cloned the MAC, once again no change. Windows cannot detect all problems, and when I try to activate the router to connect to the internet it always says connection failed. I can connect directly connected to the modem but not when connected to the router or wireless. Any ideas? Thank you

Problem solved. I had to go to a Motorola SurfBoard 4100 to a 5100. Thanks anyway

  • Windows 7 Dell computer laptop connects to the router, but the internet connection is spotty/slow

I recently installed a new Comcast wireless gateway, which includes a built-in router.  My Ipod and Ipad work perfectly with this new router connection.  My Dell laptop, however, connects to the router without a problem, but it surfing the internet very slowly and sometimes can't access it at all.  The router connection remains strong during these periods of power failure, however.  I don't get online no problem when I connect directly to the router/modem with an Ethernet cable.  Network troubleshooting does not detect a problem, I have released/updated my IP address, and made sure I had updated drivers.  The issue still [persists.  Any input on what to try next?

    Hello Scot,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

The description of the problem, I see that the Internet connection is very slow on the computer.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. We are here to help and guide you in the right direction.

Maybe there's a chance that some network settings, start services application or a third party or a security software restricted it to connect properly and is responsible for the internet connection is slow.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and see if it helps.

    Method 1

I suggest you try the procedure described in the following Microsoft Article and check if it helps.

Internet Explorer is slow? 5 things to try
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/help/Internet-Explorer/slow-five-tips-to-boost-performance

Warning: Reset the Internet Explorer settings can reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings.

    Method 2

If the problem persists, I suggest you to follow the steps described in the following Microsoft tutorial and see if it helps.

    Wireless and wired network problems

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/network-connection-problem-help#network-problems=Windows-7&V1H=win81tab1&V2H=win7tab1&V3H=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

Why is my Internet connection so slow?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/why-Internet-connection-slow#why-Internet-connection-slow=Windows-7

    Method 3

If after performing more high question method persist, try to perform the clean boot and temporarily disable security software and then check the speed of the Internet.

Step 1: Perform the clean boot

Put your system to the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: See "How to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Step 2: Temporarily disable security software.

    Disable the antivirus

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attack.

    Method 4

Since then, the issue is not resolved by disabling the security software, Windows Firewall could be the next possibility. So, I suggest, temporarily, disable the Windows Firewall and check if the problem persists.

    Refer to the following steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + R, type firewall.cpl , and press ENTER.
    2. Click turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. Click turn off (not recommended) Windows Firewall under each network location that you want to stop trying to protect, and then click OK.

    Caution:

You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall is enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers. You must reactivate as soon as you have completed troubleshooting.

For more details, you can see the article mentioned below.

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

    Kind regards

  • T61p not internet connection WiFi

I have a T61p 6459 with an Intell Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN inside network adapter. It was working fine until the right signal strength for a few days when I would be connected to the network all of a sudden I would lose Internet access but then I always 100%. I have tried dissconnecting and that has not worked. Then I rebooted and it worked but only for a few hours, what is the same thing. Now, even with a reboot I have 100% signal strength, but no internet access.

    Help me please!

Your wifi network adapter does not connect to internet, it only connects you to a local access point, usually a router, whose job it is to connect to the internet. Try to turn off your router for a minute or two, in fact completely the unplug, wait a minute and a plug it back in and then see if you can connect.

If so, you can then focus on an update of the firmware of your router, if the problem persists.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to suggest a fix... But the WRT1900AC went back to Best Buy yesterday. Easy back, by the way.

Oh just a parenthesis... the WRT1900ac has finally connected ok Cat5. The speakeasy speedtest showed on 100-105Mbps of download, the same as the old EA3500 seized croasse.

So, instead, I found an EA3500 used in a store of the local computer. Reset default and he already had the latest firmware.

The old router Cisco EA3500 used the very simple "Cisco Conect" utility.

Forums directed me to a version EA3500 of the "Linksys WiFi Smart" utility, which was a painless and immediately picked up the wireless for laptop Toshiba.

He ran the same features on the speedtest and connected 'excellent' on room android...
