Work on two machines - what media cache?

I am a long time user of the PCF getting just my head around first Pro CS5.5. I often work on the same project, at work and at home. With FCP I just duplicated the media on another drive and carried just the project file on a disc flash - obviously rendered effects will have to be done locally.

Now with the first, I noticed there is the media cache which AFAIK, is not necessarily something to do with rendering and effects, but associated and applied to each element.

So my question is, the media cache will need to be built from scratch on each machine whenever I move the project file?

If so, is there a way to avoid this, so that I won't have to wait for it to build the media cache?

.. .or on a 30 minute film with 15 hours of original media will be what it's going to be a quick process so as to not be a problem?

I guess what I'm really asking is how can I easily work on the same project in different places?

Any help appreciated.

For now my media is in my library folder of the user on the system drive.

I would avoid using the system drive for media cache files.

The best would be to have another one with the same name in car
(D) for your media cache.

If you use an external drive for your media, make sure that
you assign the same drive letter on this drive on both systems.

... and then duplicate the lot on another drive?

I never tried to copy large media files in a cache
system to another... preferring to create generate a
cache for each system.

Another thing. Suppose I have capture some media more at work, can I just copy this media in the same location on my drive home and then cover media on my machine at home just update new media?

Yes.

  • Media cache - need a definitive answer as to what is happening

I keep getting the Cache of media using AE warning unless I have manually purge the content.  No matter if it's 80% or 20%, if the drive is more than some number I get, I get the warning.

After searching and reading of the many discussions on the media Cache.  I have the same question.

ADOBE AUTOMATICALLY RECYCLES THE CACHE IF I DISABLE THE WARNING?

My 'new' project see the advantage of the cache WITHOUT me manually purge the reader?

I don't like everything simply "turn off" the warning without knowing what is happening.

The warning is displayed if the cache size you chose is in a certain percentage of the total capacity of the disk. It is also affected by how much you have actually filled with worms up, so why sometimes, you will get the warning and other times you will be. I forgot the details of everything, but basically, if you set the size of your cache at 100g on a disc of 128g, you will get the warning every time, no matter how full it is. If you set your cache to 100g on a 500g drive, you will not get the warning, unless you've filled the disk with ~ 350g of files and your cache is also quite complete.

As for the other issue, it is essential to effective reading in AE to empty your cache. As soon as you have reached your max cache (say 100g full on a cache of 100g) your caching to speed reading will drop considerably, as your computer now has to deal with the removal of the old pieces of cache when new writing. There's really very little reason to maintain your complete cache, even if it's all in the current project, as any minor change in your computer will cause the need for the discount cache anyway. If you have 90% of your finished project and are only actively working on a small precomp, then of course keep your cache autour so he put in cache for a reading of the full model. But if not, keep an eye on your cache level and make disappear when they are close to being complete.

You should check with the person who arranged the subscription to see what are the conditions for individual users.  Normally, an individual subscription license allows to have two machines with working facilities.  I don't know if the same applies to a subscription of volume / business.

  • What size a SSD need me for media Cache in Premiere Pro

    Hi all

I wonder how great an ssd, I need for my cache of media in first pro. I'll just use the ssd for media cache and nothing else. What is usually a good size?

    Interesting question.

It depends on how many times you clean.

If you are before an a whole project to a person of time as I am, and your projects are not two hours long feature films and you restore ove and above, then you should be OK with 256G.

I just looked and the file cache and preview my Premiere Pro are only taking up to 50 GB for now. (Half a dozen projects worth of cache)

My After Effects cache is only 35 GB. That said, I don't have to make my Premiere Pro projects very often because I try to stick to hardware accelerated effects.

  • Permanent disk cache should be on a separate media cache drive?

Hi guys =) I will build a mounting with PP & AE system and I am trying to decide on my storage configuration. Google, PPBM7, books whites and useful forum posters have mostly resolved my questions.

But one thing that I'm still not clear persistent Disk Cache. After reading this white paper , have left me a bit ambiguous as to how different caches must be sorted.

That I have collected (I think it's good):

    • Persistent disk cache is a "permanent" copy / stable for your RAM previews.
    • Persistent disk cache is totally different from the 'media Cache"/"Scratchdisk' other guides on PS, PP, etc, I see.
    • PDC is also distinct from the "media Cache" used by After Effects
    • Caches of media should always have their own drive (if possible) because they are accessible at all times and benefit from separation I/O

    I'm not sure is:

Should be the PDC also on its own separate drive of the media Cache? The white paper and other configuration guides, leave this ambiguous, often only mention 'Caches Media' in their recommended configuration "four motor".

I am interested in this in 2 different directions:

    • Hypothetical. Whether practical or not, performance increase by PDC and media on separate drives Cache?
    • Practice. In practice, if the main domain controller is placed on the same drive as the other Caches/Scratchdisks, will create this slowdown noteworthy/questions?

I understand that any response cannot be absolute in the world of software creation because it will always be concerned with exactly what you do and how you use it. But in General would be nice. =)

Yes, it's OK to use the SSD even for the two kinds of cache. If you had a lot of extra money, you could get a small acceleration by separating them, but it is not essential to do so.

  • removal of media cache files to speed up the loading of project?

    Hi all

Here's a question about media cache files... Once again.

My projects has recently begun to be slower to load than even light. Nothing has changed, but I noticed that I had 61 GB of data in the media cache files folder. I wonder if remove the contents of the cache of media AND media cache files folder stand in the place and bring my speed?

    Thank you.

    Serge

This will remove the database only.

Not exactly... This will remove the entries in the database and the files in cache for some media, that are currently not in use, e.g. offline media. It can also remove some entries from the database and the cache files for the media used in a project, on what an editor does not work currently, but the majority of them will stay. In other words, the "Clean" button should have been called "partially own something media Cache database randomly.

So, in order to actually clean the media Cache database one should manually delete all the files in the folders as media Cache and Cache media files.

  • Hard Drive Setup for the source files, media Cache, project, Render, etc...

I am working to put in place the following readers:

C: SSD for the OS and programs

D: RAID 0 (three SATA II F3) for projects from first, where I did too, and still

E: RAID 0 (two SATA III WD black Caviar) for the source files, hiding from media and preview the files (if I can get the controllers/SATA III RAID Marvel that is)

External HD USB 3.0 for backup projects

    Should I make this different?

Anyone think it would be better to use the SDD discs instead of hard drives? I have

Please confirm that it is correct:

    C: SSD for:

    • Operating system and programs
    • No pagefile

D: RAID 0 (three SATA II F3) for:

    • No pagefile
    • First project
    • Source files of project first (suggestion by evil)
    • Project yet

E: RAID 0 (two SATA III WD black Caviar) for:

    • Swap file (install first, 12 GB since I have 24GO RAM)
    • Media cache
    • Preview files
    • Rendering of the project (e.g., DVD MPEG2, H.264, etc.) / source files of project yet

    Fix.

When I finish my PR projects, I use DVD - HQ Bitrate & GOP calculator to determine the parameters of flow and export to DVD MPEG2 or H.264 - BR according to my delivery format, but also because I always export sound instead of AC3 5.1 2.0. I only make my chapter points in Encore and not worth trying it in the PR, due to the limitations of long GOP. Again these same limitations, but I prefer to do it in yet, because then I can easily adapt and make the poster frames for my taste.

In my workflow, so I have my source media and the project on the D drive and export the MPEG2-DVD, or H.264 - BR in drive E. open the project again from my D drive, and then import the assets on my E drive.

Reminder I export the image file and then use Nero to make multiple copies, because with Nero I can use multiple burners, creating 50 copies goes two times faster with two burners or even 4 times faster with four burners.

  • Media Cache files / Media Cache database / Scratchdisk on SSD?

    Hello

I have a 120 GB SSD in my C: drive use.

"Media Cache files" and "Database Cache" sit enabled by default on C: drive - which is in my case an SSD that is faster than my 7200 RPM D: drive.

Default location of the scratchdisk is in the project plan, who are always on the 7200 RPM D: drive.

Now my question: what files should I keep on the SSD drive - and which ones on 7200 RPM drive? The better course would be to have everything on the SSD, but the simple truth is his only 120 GB and more than half is used for etc system files already.

I get a noticeable performance improvement if I use the SSD as scratchdisk?

I get a noticeable performance loss if I use 7200 RPM disk for my media and Database Cache files?

Also more information on this topic: when (any drive) are media and automatically deleted database Cache files? How does this work, because if it does delete anything automatically, after 30 projects your computer must be complete with these media Cache files...

And the same question for the scratschdisk? Although I imagine that you must do it manually since its in the draft card anyway.

    I thank all!

    Mambo

    # The advantage of speed of SSDS is primarily marketing hype and not noticeable when editing. Comprehensive tests with conventional 8 versus 8 7200 drives SSD in a raid showed no benefit at all, in fact it was even a bit slower than conventional disks.

  • Single user, working on both machines, best practical question

I use Dreamweaver at home and at work.  I'm working on my sites only.  I have just started working with DW and don't know the best practice to achieve.  The way I do now is through a folder synchronized on both machines that hosts the site.  The establishment is a local folder on the two machines that automatically syncs on the WWW.  I created a site on my machine at home with a folder root for the site and the images and then created another site on my work machine and was pointing at the root sync folders.  Is the best practice for this set to the top.

I guese that im afraid of is the feature of auto update of links and such to within DW.

    Thank you!

I have the same configuration and DW Check In / Check Out feature works for me.

This requires a local copy of the site on home and work machines more copy remotely on the web.

I have check no matter what files I need to work, modify and then download and archive when I'm done.

    DW manages everything.

  • WiFi, tries to connect but do not. No error. Work on other machines

    Yes I saw this sticky.

1 5 PCs stopped connecting to the WiFi router. He had worked for a while. The SSID is listed as "automatic". Click on connect and it runs for minutes before stopping without error message. Nothing is displayed in the event viewer. Virus scan says own. I can run an Ethernet cable to it and it will work. It happened during a month. Because it is used occasionally by a 9 year old child I let go. Another computer is now too from Saturday. We ran on the second PC Ethernet cable and it will work. Recently the 9 year old had used this computer for school work. His computer (a 1st) worked very well until some time after starting his homework on it. Of course, it could be something else. It is now two machines not connect is not without error. Could be related to something he does inadvertently.

    Any ideas on troubleshooting?

Once you connect to a wireless network, the connection details are often recorded as a 'profile' in your wireless network application and re-used the next time the wireless network is met.  If this profile has been changed somehow, the default information collected may not be sufficient to authenticate on the subject at a later date.

Look in your system tray for your wireless internet application, double-click on it or otherwise run it on the screen.  Find a 'Profiles' button and open the window profiles.  Then, remove all the profiles you see here such that it is no longer a story for a connection attempt.  At a minimum, remove the profile that is associated with the SSID that you are trying to connect to.  After that, try to re-scan and reconnect to your network.

    Hello

1 have you checked the State of the wireless autoconfiguration WLAN service in the services window?
    2. do you have security software installed on the computer? If Yes, is it updated regularly?

    3. have you done any software or hardware changes on your computer before this problem?

    4. What are the troubleshooting steps you have tried to solve the problem?

    Refer to these methods.

    Method 1:

We will first try to manually start the wireless service, i.e. the WLAN AutoConfig service.

    (a) click Start, type Services.msc and press enter.

    (b) locate the autoconfiguration WLAN service, double-click to open its Properties window.

    (c) on the general tab, change the Startup type to Automatic and click on the Start button.

    (d) click apply and then click ok.

    (e) try to connect to the wireless connection and check the result.
