WRT1900ACS questions

I'm having issues where my bandwidth on router becomes clogged weekly and sometimes daily.  I tried to fix the problems before, but he gets hurt.  I understood now that in my network card, I have the Mac with IP that all be grouped in the same device.  I am not able to divide.  I noticed that the same device appeared to be hogging all the bandwidth on was the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 Ghz at the same time.  Now I have disabled the 5 GHz helped me to speed me upwards from 3 MB to 7 MB, but only a reset me back to 20 MB

Y at - it a firmware or something I need to load up.  Not really sure where to start looking.  This router is only around the age of 5 months and replaced a Time Capsule that has never had a problem like I hate them. I like linksys, but this one begins to stink.

Help! and thank you.

Theres new FW for the candidate countries. http://www.Linksys.com/us/support-product?PID=01t34000003qSgQAAU

  • WRT1900AC - questions of Administration of the NAS...

I just installed the WRT1900AC to replace a failed E3000.  I lived with the E3000 years such as improved gradually Linksys software support for usb connected NAS drives and have the disk (a disk of 1 TB Western Digital USB) connected and correctly mapped on a Windows 7 X 64 computer.  Unfortuately, I've always had "permission issues" with the previous configuration, due in part to the network host computers that I use to access.  I have two Windows XP dinosaurs in my basement and a computer to Vista Business, as well as my computer Win 7 (X 64) principal"office".  When I got the permission issues in the past, I have periodically connect the dricetly drive to one Windows XP computer and reset 'full permission' to 'Each' walk across.

Once more, now that I have a mapped drive, records on this subject are all considered by the router as 'Read only' so I can't do anything.  I have my whole installation with the same users, and in the past Windows devices have shared files freely within my network, but always avoided recording stuff in the car everything except Win XP, the smallest common denominator in order to ensure that I could get at home everywhere.

Now I'd like to be able to continue to access all of XP at least 'read' mode, but I want to be able to give at least a Windows user administrator access to everything on the NAS, including the ability to create and delete folders and move files.  I know how to do if the drive is "Local" to one of my computers, but I have no idea how to configure things with files already existing on the new WRT1900AC system.  Suggestions, simple to take, measures etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Note that I don't understand what the WRT1900AC means by turning on "access to records" but I'm afraid that if I do that there is little or no chance to use Windows XP, and even the machine Vista to create and manipulate files on the NAS.

One of my main goals is to restore the backup without assistance of the software running on each of my four computers in a way that assures me that I can restore from a backup to a different host if I need to.  Another manages a fairly large and growing libarary of videos and digital photos produced by my collection of cameras and phones.

User authorization can be edited using the Smart WiFi of Linksys.

By turning ON access to records, you can specify the folder accessible by the specific user. Suppose for example, you have files 1 & 2 and you have users 1 & 2. You can set permissions that User1 can only display files in folder 1 and User2 both view and edit files in both folders.

You can add as many users you can access the shared drive. This link is for sure useful, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=5752a2a259ae464f8b85bc673faf7bb9_Configuring_share...

You can then press Windows + R on the keyboard and type \\192.168.1.1 (or double back slashes and the IP address of the router). The computer will ask the user to enter the user name and the password that you specified in the router to access the shared drive. This should there, through various versions of the Windows operating system.

  • Server WRT1900AC DNS (?) Questions

It is a separate, but related to the thread - question WRT1900AC DHCP do not distribute the specified static DNS entries

I have not seen this documented function of anywhere, but it seems that the WRT1900AC has an internal DNS server? The router is set to dhcp clients local (front & reverse) on my local network with DNS suffix that is issued by my ISP (via external DHCP). Accordingly, it is causing conflicts on my network name resolution.

Example: My router receives its external address via DHCP from my ISP (WebPass). The optional parameter "domain name" is not editable (see screenshot)

Now, when a dhcp client internal registers on the network with a name in conflict (for example, the www host name) it will cause a DNS conflict on the LAN:

    Nslookup www.web-pass.com

    Server: 172.16.1.1

    Address: 172.16.1.1 #53

    Name:www.web-pass.com

    Address: 172.16.1.110

where it should resolve correctly to 184.106.186.186. In addition

Don't get me wrong, I'd like a DNS local on my router - but for it to be functional and conflict prevention, the following must be done:

    1. Allow editing of the "Domain name" field to create a distinct and not conflicting namespace.
    2. Allow the ability to add static DNS for non-dhcp clients
    3. Leave the option to disable the local DNS server, for those who use & prefer their own internal DNS server
    4. Fix the bug (DHCP/DNS) mentioned at the beginning of the wire

If anyone has thoughts, observations, any other solution to workaround it please feel free add on this thread.

Linksys support reached out for me and I got a call with one of its engineers (Julie Louh - which was very useful) on this subject. It also has the problem of DHCP/Static DNS (mentioned at the beginning of the original post) of design to allow the IP address of the router to resolve the site of smart wifi Linksys (Cloud / anywhere configuration). She confirmed that the router uses IP addresses is entered in the static DNS config for DNS lookups.

On the DNS server issues described in this post, it should present the following feature requests:

    1. Allow editing of the "Domain name" field to create a distinct and not conflicting namespace.
    2. Allow the ability to add static DNS for non-dhcp clients

Of course, these feature enhancements will move up the chain of management for approval. But I think that if these 2 are implemented it will solve the main problems described here.

On a separate note, I was very pleased with the customer service and the reaction of Belkin/Linksys. The personal reachout to a technical support technician really shows that they are determined to make this powerful router and feature rich as they promised it would be.

  • Question about WRT1900ACS

    Hello

I think buying a WRT1900ACS router, I am told by my dealer that it's the best choice to support a large number of devices of connection with streaming audio and video of my SIN, while maintaining a range of broad signal for a big house.

I have to connect it to my cable modem-router ISP, so I need to be able to change the router IP and IP range if the default IP address turns out to be the same as the modem-router. I could not find how to do it in the manual online. Could someone please confirm that this can be done? In my view, that do not allow some low-end routers, but I would be surprised if it is not possible with this model.

    Thank you!

Ok thank you. So, the EA8500 is greater than the WRT1900ACS?

The EA8500 is great, but doesn't have the same speed of the SIN as the WRT1900ACS. If you have problems with the WRT1900ACS from the beginning, I recommend exchanging it for the EA8500 because the WRT1900ACS is sensitive to some network environments.

  • Network WRT1900AC comments is seen, connectable, but no password invite or internet access

I have WRT1900AC firmware version 1.1.8.164461. The wireless channel interference is not a problem.

Under access as a guest, I can see allow guest access turned on, I have a SSID of 2.4 Ghz and a password for the guest network. Using my 2.4 Ghz devices, I can see the SSID I just referred to. My devices can connect to it.

But, once connected, I never receive a prompt for the password and I have no internet access. The screen Smart Wi - Fi are always "0 clients" are currently connected, regardless of the number of devices made the level of SSID link.

I installed the router months ago, but did not know that access as a guest did not work because it always seemed well on the router and I didn't have a camera to test with. But I just discovered that many guests were upset that they can't connect with the password that I gave them. I am very disappointed by the Linksys support answer to my question.

For now, I am getting the correct behavior after a reset of the WRT1900AC plant. The guest network is now a password in a browser for the two test devices. My comments network IP addresses have the prefix 192.168.3.x and I can't find an address 192.168.2.x on my network.

  • Problems of configuration of IPTV, WRT1900ACS.

Hello. I have big problems getting my IPTV to work with my WRT1900ACS. I'm failry certain that it has something to do with something in the router configuration, but what and where is the question. VLAN? Port forwarding? If I go with my cable ISP directly on the uses of the socket of the TV, it works, but as soon as I go through my router, it doesn't. Everything else works, and after reading about this a little bit on the net, it seems almost obvious that I have to click or configure something in my Smart Wifi of Linksys. I'm a lot of people thought have had these problems and in the hope that they were able to solve them.

Someone has good directions on where to start? I'll also call support for IPTV, but since signals will be mainly done in the router, my guess is that they will not be able to solve. I'm really grateful for any help I can get. I had so many technical problems the last few months, I don't even start taking place with them here...

I live and the Sweden and the IPTV provider's Viasat. The box is a Samsung.

    Kind regards

  • Re a WRT1900AC - should I use a bridge or Repeater

    Hello world

I live in a level two levels house with all equipment of networking on the lower floor. This includes the cable modem, my WRT1900AC router, switch to WRT-8, NAS, UPS, printers, etc. Most of the "living" occurs in the upper floors, however. I would like to improve the 1900 2.4 and the floor of the 5HGz signals as much as possible. I moved the 1900, much as I reasonably can, but I think that installing 1900 another upstairs would be the best way to go. I have a few questions about this:

    1. use the 2nd 1900 as a Repeater or a bridge? I assume that the former.

2 should I connect the 2 1900? If so, I need to plan where to drill a hole access ethernet cable, as I don't have easy access to the ceiling.

    3. I know I'm going to take a bit of a performance hit in a Repeater configuration, but what a bridge configuration?

    4. I would like to use the 2.4 & 5 on each floor. Can I expect this?

any help on the above would be appreciated. I put this offshore for much too long (especially because of the scope of ethernet cable drilling and placement), but I would now like to proceed to the improvement

Thank you very much in advance for any help you can be offerred here.

    YHF

You can check in maybe a real wireless extension, or if you want to try to place an AP wired into the room, or the other level, you can check in a devcies PowerLine that can use power lines as your interconnection of the floor at the bottom of the stairs, then place an access point wired on one of these units of PL.

Hi bought a new Linksys WRT1900ACS and has the following questions.

    a. How can I determine whether version hardware version 1 og 2.

    b. making a portscanning on the Linksys WRT1900ACS for the internet I found that several ports where free.

When I went into the Setup, I get only portforwarded 20/21.

I could access my internet QNAPS 3 + more.

But the router WRT1900ACS didn t show this when it has been planned, why?

I now that the QNAP may change the port settings, but I do not have "done this or asked for it", but why it does not appear

  • Slow Wrt1900AC WiFi browsing speed

    Hi all

The router has a current run time of 3 days, since I bought it and has the latest firmware installed, my wifi is configured as follows:

    2.4 Ghz - WPA 2 - B G N channel only - 1-20 mhz only
    Width auto - channel 36 - only 5 GHz - WPA 2 - A N

    Do not use prioritization

After checking on my PC with my wifi is slow and lazy, running a speedtest on the iPad app my wifi speed works fine, but Internet pages on my iPad 2 Air are super slow compared to my ISP supplied router. It is on both bands of wifi

Don't know what the question is?

Just a couple of quick suggestions... let the 'network' a 'mixed' Mode settings And use channel 6 on 2.4 GHz. and a channel number on 5 GHz., such as 153 157 or 161.

I would also forget your wireless networks in your customers to iOS (Apple) and the reconnection. If this does not help then try restarting them. If this does not help, try "Reset network settings" under "Settings"-> "General"-> "Reset".

One of the above can help your problem with the iPad 2 air. My iPad 2 Air works fine on my WRT1900AC. Also our 6 iPhone work with the WRT1900AC. But Apple WiFi can be a little flaky, especially when you change routers.

  • Attached storage WRT1900ACS issue

    Hi all

Just picked up the WRT1900ACS yesterday and am in love but I have a question about external storage attached to the unit. The router has the capability to format the disc attached? If this isn't the case, the reader (3 TB), the format must be formatted in?

Hi, InfernoST. Thanks for choosing the Linksys WRT1900ACS. We appreciate that you enjoyed. The router does not have the ability to format the attached drive. The functionality of the supported file systems only supports FAT, NTFS, and HFS format.

I see options passthtough VPN is this router, but no provision for VPN from the internet.  Has it been to see it in the near future (without having to go to third party firmware)?

Other routers in this class have supported VPN, but done wrong.  I bought a netgear nighthawk before getting the WRT1900 and she is supported VPN worked for windows, but no documentation or configuration options for security, he was not a real solution.  I returned the netgear as technical support was not able to answer any question of VPN.

I would LOVE to see OpenVPN fully supported in this unit, because that would make a solution entirely "rounded" for power users.

    Thank you!

You can use the OpenWRT firmware. Information on the firmware OpenWRT for the WRT1900AC can be found in the post at the top of the forum list.

  • connection problem internet wrt1900ac

    Hello

I'm having a real problem of base; probably missing something easy, but I can't the wrt1900ac to connect to the internet.

    This is my situation.

WORK SITUATION: Cable Modem connection to the PC via cable yellow or orange or blue.  Set PC to DHCP.  No problem.  wrt1900ac NOT in question.

Does not WORK: ADD wrt1900ac to the situation: disconnect the cable from the computer, turn off the modem for 5 minutes, then plug the cable/modem wrt1900ac.  Turn on wrt1900ac.  Internet light will blink orange and orange flashing white, then blinks, then flashing orange white, then solid.  IN CASE OF FAILURE.

I don't understand how this could be true, unless there is something wrong with the wrt1900ac.

What Miss me?  Why the wrt1900ac does not connect to the internet?

I was on the phone today with high Linksys support for more than 2 hours.

So here's the bottom line, maybe you will not have to suffer as I did.

Step 1: Update the firmware.  In my case, I went to all that 1.1.7.160.177.

Step 2: Under the connectivity > Internet settings, select "Clone MAC address".

Step 3: Click on 'Clone MAC from my PC'.

Step 4: Click on 'apply '.

    Fact.  Problem solved.

PS - My ISP is Cox Communications.

  • Problems setting up router WRT1900ac and fiber

I feel that my question is so obscure that I won't be able to get a lot of help here, but I'll post anyway.

First of all, I live in the Philippines. My ISP is PLDT. I have FTTH - fiber to the home. My internet connection is DHCP - no login or password. I thought that perhaps they checked the serial number on the modem to see if I was an authorized user but apparently not; They told me if I wanted to buy another optical modem, I could and that I wouldn't need to do anything to save it on the network, but that they could not provide me with a list of modems that would work.

They delivered to me with a router/modem made by a company called FiberHome. "Like the big business of high-tech directly affiliated to belonging to the active state of oversight and Board of Directors of the Council of State, FiberHome Technologies is the company of the kernel located in Wuhan Optics Valley of China."

The model number is AN5506-04-FG. There are very few configurable on this. Can I change my wifi network name (they insist that the name of the network begins with PLDTHOMEFIBR, no idea why) and a few passwords here and there. For the most part, I just post status on the LAN and WAN.

Therefore, because it is so little that I can do with it that I decided that I needed a router/gateway and not simply an Extender. I bought the WRT1900ac.

Brought it home, that he repaired, it connected via ethernet cable between a LAN port on the FiberHome on the Internet on the Linksys port.  I then used the WiFi on my iPad to try on the Linksys Setup, try with Safari and Chrome.

Went to put in place and smart control of Linksys could not understand my internet connection, despite several reboots, power off and cable disconnected, etc.

So I went to the manual configuration. I put the connection to a static IP address. Following the minimal instructions in the booklet of FiberHome, I put the IP address of the router to 192.168.1.28; the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0; This gateway 192.168.1.1 (internal IP of the fiber to the home, address) DNS of Google DNS.

This would actually work - but only for a few minutes at a time. Then the network diagram would show that I was always connected to the FiberHome but no connection to Internet in addition. (Although my PC, connected to the FiberHome via a LAN cable, still had access to the internet.)

I used the live chat Linksys to ask an agent to this topic. She said that my gateway setting is correct. She had me reset the router and try again, but he could not yet know the connection to the internet on its own. She had me download the iOS app and try there, but same result. So I received a ticket number and ended the chat session.

Now, I tried to set the internet connection on the router at the bridge. But once I did, I was unable to connect to the router via WiFi. I needed to do a reset to be able to access it again.

At this point I called my ISP. They told me that if I wanted to add another router like that, they would need to reset my router/modem FiberHome bridged mode. But they are unable to do it remotely and cannot (or don't want to) give me instructions on how to do it myself.  They need to send a technician to my home. They could not tell me when. I have to wait for a call. (I got a ticket number).

This means that for now, I have a blue and black, sitting bins there, I can't do anything with.

So I'm waiting, I thought I'd post this in the hope that someone might have some ideas configuration I could try or for the general amusement of peoples.

    Thank you!

You may have a conflict between the two routers in IP subnet. In this case the WRT1900AC will change it's default subnet to 10.x.x.x instead of 192.168.1.1

You can find the new IP address of the router by looking at a customers connect ITI information IP address appears as the default gateway.
