• Impossible to install SP3 on a Tecra M3

  I am rebuilding a Tecra M3 model PTM30A-1DD002 for a friend. I installed Windows XP Professional, but whenever I try to install a service pack, it appears to hang.

  I tried SP1 & SP3 and whenever it starts gets about one minute in and then just sits and does nothing. I left the machine for a few hours and it is not just anything. On SP1 it says it's "backup files" and said SP3 'audit Product Code '.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  AFAIK Tecra M3 comes with Windows XP Home SP2 Professional edition so for installing WXP use Microsoft WXP drive with already integrated SP2 or SP3 installations.

  I tried to install Windows XP Service pack 3 on my Tecra S3, and it fails (stops indefinitely) at the stage of "current execution after the installation process".

  I have a strange situation here. First of all, I must describe the system:

  • 2 machines both with TS4.1 IDEs installed Win XP SP3,
  
  
  • Machine 1 has logical file of common sequence, which is shared with the two machines via a drive mapped "T": sequence files are in 'T:\Logic '.

  This is probably the problem. Subdirs, especially on a network drive to the research should generally be avoided.

  I would recommend against using the options "search subdirectories", even in the case not connected to the network, since then, not only can it lead to performance problems, it can make unintentionally using the incorrect module because the module where you want to say, if you come to specify the name of the file and rely on the recursive search could be ambiguous and have several possible matches. • XP Pro SP3 still slow after a month of following threads

  I built a computer for my wife and he played wonderfully up until a month ago when she told me that she thought she had a virus because his PC is really slow. She was correct and I found and cleaned several threats to his machine. Even created a Kaspersky bootable cd and did a cleanup of that. I managed to get rid of all viruses detected at this stage. I ran full scans with Kaspersky, AVG, Norton 360, Spybot, Adaware, Webroot and Hitman Pro. All the latter reported no threat. Machine has always been very slow, so I started following discussions here. I used msconfig to take everything on commissioning. I have optimized, defragmented, and managed to get rid of unused programs. I've been following son and make all the suggestions I found for over a month and still crawling along. I used a timer to Boot XP to see how long it has taken for the computer to boot, and he returned with 770 seconds, or nearly 13 minutes.   One thing that is often overlooked when startups/performance troubleshooting HARD drive Transfer Mode setting.  This applies only to IDE (not the SATA drives) drives.  If transfer Modes slipped DMA in PIO, you'll have a system "lame".

  Since the implementation of the MS Answers forum does not prompt for the basic system information when a new question is asked (as the system brand and model), I can't tell if this applies to you or not if you can tell us that.  If you are not sure, we say the make and model and we can look it up.

  AVG, Norton and Spybot are known hogs CPU and memory so if you have those installed and enabled that could be part of the problem, but if you have disabled the throughout the msconfig may be that it is not.  Installation of too many AV programs is not always a good thing.  It is possible to have too much protection on your system.

  You use Bootlog XP to get these hours?  It is a good tool to find why your bootstrap system takes so long so that it starts.  A nice bar chart to show you that everything is being done and you focus on long horizontal lines in the table and work on these areas.

  I have a Dell Dimension 4700 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99 Ghz and 3.25 GB of Ram, with a Hitachi 500 GB HDS721050CLA362 as the main disk (Disk0) and a Seagate 1 TB ST31000528AS secondary storage (disk 1) with Windows XP SP3 disk. I have insalled all updates (including frame work 1.1 windows.net, 2 something etc).

  I have avast antivirus and it is always kept up to date as well as ad-aware and anti malware malbyte.

  I recently bought a BlacX Thermaltake Docking Station and 2 TB Hitachi 3.5 car as well. I try to have 2 backups of my work, because I lost valuable data in the past.

  Initially, I had only 2 GB of Ram, but I knew that my computer could handle 4 GB because I have confirmed these specifications with the people of Dell who assembled to the machine. Right now I have 4 GB of ram, as confirmed in the menu setup.

  I also originally had a Maxtor 80 GB disk0 and disk1 No.

  I opted to replace the Maxtor 80 GB because it is 6 years old already and I run Adobe CS4 production Premium. I thought that 500 GB would suit my OS & important programs and large temporary files that they generate.

  When I reinstalled the operating system on the Maxtor I had formatting problems. It hangs at 94% or I would get a BSOD on start up. Then I used the 500 GB HDD and ran the Installation of XP on it and was fine.

  I used it for a week, but I noticed his incredibly slow, despite having all this ram and a clean operating system installation.

  I am also BSOD when I launch the antivirus OR when I try to copy files from one HD to another (of the primary transmission on the slave drive OR the disk from 2 TB to dock, or from disk on the drive connected slave or the slave on the primary drive drive). Other times I'll take an absurd copy for a file time relatively small i.ye. a 300 MB file will suddenly be more than an hour to copy.

  The skeptic in me feels like this happens when I install the updates of the .net framework. I already reinstalled OS two times.

  Isn't .net important features of the machine?

  I'm so lost in this and I spend most of my days Googling solutions and try to implement them without result. I've disabled "write cache" and reactivated it. I went through a bunch of procedures aimed at preventing the failure of writeback. I do not have any type of file sharing software or torrents on my machines at all and I do not share my files. My firewall is on.

  All that I know, I did everything by the book and to the letter, so I feel like my computer could run surprisingly, not like I have a lemon and I'm terrified that I'll lose all my work despite the fact that I have enough space to save all of the universe.

• Movie maker, xp (sp3), makes part only audio video (but not images) for mpeg files.

  With my computer, XP Sp3, I converted the files MOD ofJVC Everio HDD camera to MPG or MPEG using the software, SDcopy.

  Media Player accepts these files to play movies very well, but Movie maker shows not all images, only the audio...

  My other computer with the same operating system has no problem - but this Movie maker is a slightly older version.

  I suspect that there are some differences of codec in both computers?

• WinXP sp3 short slow

  I have a fairly zippy motherboard, cpu, a lot of ram.

  I have a lot of programs loaded and visible in the status bar, the control of malware to utilities that I use on a daily basis.

  the system is slow to give me office after startup (I guess while loading stuff) but when I use it, sometimes 1 program running can just "lock" to the top.  even just open a folder.

  I have 4 drives external usb 2, each 2 TB.

  is it possible that I have so many files/folders than just missed op system?  If so I could remove some of them, and then bring them back only when I do backups or something.

• Why readyboost makes slow down my laptop rather than speed it up?

  I am running Windows7 in a new laptop that I just bought. I tried the readyboost with a 4 GB memory card high speed, but it just slowed me after a few minutes of use. I also tried readyboost in my old PC that was running Windows Vista, it also slowed to a crawl and then frozen. If this was designed to speed up my PC it's does not work!

  If you have more than 2 GB of RAM, so there is absolutely NO reason at all using readyboost - you won't see one iota of difference...

  ReadyBoost is designed to allow computers with 1 GB of RAM or less to run Windows 7 at a reasonable speed.

  I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that your new computer with Windows 7 has less than 2 GB of RAM...

  I would say that a slow and small system will hinder the performance, but it shouldn't really be things to stall for minutes at a time.  I guess you could be using his RAM and going virtual...  Is the hard drive on more or less constantly when this happens?

  That said, I have an old laptop with similar specs that you describe, and I wouldn't dream of trying to get real work done in a modern version of Photoshop on this system.

  You've spent hundreds of dollars on the new software.  It's probably time to move to a modern operating under a modern operating system computer.

• Tecra M5 - new installation of XP SP3 - no sound

  I performed a clean installation of XP SP3 on a Tecra M5, downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba support site, installed in order (according to the install.txt) and that all work sound bar.

  I tried the two drivers available on the download site, both give the same result - windows is pleased and says everything works fine, but still no sound. I tried the (mute) key and its appears under the name now. Volume (on windows) is complete with all other controls. All controls are NOT dumb. I also tried the handwheel of volume at the two extremes, still no sound.

  I looked on the internet and found other users having problems with the sigmatel and XP SP3 drivers. But have not been able to find the right ones for this model. The machine is a Tecra M5 (PTM50E).

  Someone at - it ideas? A download of a compatible driver SP3 would be good.

  Yes. Remove SP3 and use SP2 supported. I checked the facilities list for this model of laptop and on the first place is classified - Windows XP Professional SP2 ServicePack2.

  I don't know that the drivers on the Toshiba download page are the same drivers as in the recovery image. This means that they are probably not tested with SP3. To be honest, I always use SP2 and I'm happy with it.

  2 reasons that I see at a single glance, you have installed MacKeeper Malware, did the uninstall instructions and uninstall. Also, your Crashplan backup system is designed for continuous operation and is known to make slow systems. I would not recommend the use of this system or this time by backup only when you are not using the computer.   I installed thunderbird for quite awhile in my pc, I have a few a/c email in thunderbird. all good up until recently, I thought that too many emails make slow... therefore I deleted a lot and offers a lot of archives... a big cleanup. app 80 e-mails sent to the left in this Inbox, but still very slow when downloading, deleting... all action. do I miss anything in the installer... • Tecra A11 - LED backlight problem

  I have great pain in my eyes after a day of working with Tecra A11 BIOS V1.7 = BIOS update. Wenn I bought it there was 1.4 BIOS the same problem with the eyes, LED backlight killing my eyes, a lot of pain after a day's work. V1.5 and 1.6 are much better (no pain) but new BIOS 1.7 is the same eye-killer than 1.4.

  Who will help me? Users of this forum?

  I want the people of Toshiba to help me, they sell the product ready 1/2, absolutely bad work! No contacts to Toshiba just this forum. Toshiba is interested in my problem with its Tecra A11 laptop bad and stupid BIOS updates? I'm really angry, never had such problems with laptop so much. So excuse my emoutions that I'm starting to hate Toshiba for the very bad experience with this Tecra A11. Why some users of this forum should help me? I paid a lot of money to Toshiba, so I want that people of the Toshiba to tell me what they do in their BIOS updates, silly kill my eyes with LCD backlighting. How many BIOS updates will be needed to make the Tecra A11 work correctly for 800 EUROS? I'll never buy anything from Toshiba.

  First of all: cool! Nobody is perfect and that these things can happen that something does not work correctly.

  I put t know what problems you have with LED backlight, but a more detailed description would be nice. A friend of me also uses the Tecra A11 but it didn t tell me questions so I think this laptop works very well.

  And I think that it of normal that there is no contact with Toshiba and you won't get any help from Toshiba because you will need to contact a * authorized service provider *. If you have a problem with your laptop, connect with these guys here. They can repair the laptop and it's free if your laptop is under warranty. On the Toshiba site, you can find a list of them.
  Check this box!

  Finally, and especially if you have noticed that with an older version of BIOS, that everything works correctly, you can get this older version of a service as well. As you can see, it might be useful to communicate with these guys here.
