XPS 420 will not power up - suggestions?

My wife tried to restart our old XPS 420 here recently and she never returned and does not illuminate.  What could you any suggestions for me?

I tried to connect the PC directly to a wall socket and using a different power cord and had no chance.

Thank you!

  • XPS 420 will not again boot SSD

I have a XPS 420 with BIOS A07. I bought a Samsung 500 G 850 EVO SSD. I used the software included to duplicate my existing HD. It worked without problem. I then installed the SSD, went into the BIOS. I found the place where I had to define SATA2 port where it is plugged into the motherboard, for on. After the reboot, I went into the BIOS and when I select SATA2, it now offers information on the SSD. I also see it in Windows Explorer. However, I don't see an option to make the boot drive. There is a section on the Boot order in BIOS, but it lists all SATA drive. It does not specify which.

In addition, in the section on SATA there is no AHCI option. Just ATA SATA or RAID. I found the instructions on the Web to enable the AHCI in the registry for this computer. I followed the steps and was able to change two settings by following the instructions. Check back shows them as changed. But AHCI still does not appear as an option in the BIOS. How can I make my new SSD boot drive?

    Thanks for the help.

Looks like I may have found a solution, although I'm surprised that it worked, and perhaps something else is what actually works. I had assumed that the number of SATA port on the motherboard has no importance. But just in case where SATA0 was faster and possibly solve the problem, I moved my SSD to SATA0, my old HDD to SATA1 and SATA2 DVD player. I went into the bios to activate SATA0, which I had previously turned off as the old hard drive is plugged it and always started for her. I have saved and let it start and of course it is initialized to the SSD. I then restarted and went into the BIOS and made sure that he considered every car on the SATA port, and that each has been activated. Everything was going as planned and he continued then to start on the SSD. The old drive appears in Windows Explorer under E. The DVD player works, as well.

I guess most of the people must not do this, because they can set the boot sequence for the SATA via the BIOS drives. But since I could not, it seems, this method worked, and going in the order the SATA ports. And it's probably just as well use SATA0 for my SSD just in case it is faster. My guess is that all SATA ports are the same and slow in this old Dell. But it works and I'm happy.

I'm surprised that there are no answers to my questions or problems. I guess that my Dell is too old. However, I thought that I would get something from the community. Until about five years ago, Dell had a different provider for their forums with lots of participation. I think that the provider has been appointed the lithium. It seemed that when they changed providers people were disappointed and veterans left.  In any case, I hope that my experience will be useful to someone. I can't be the only one running from these computers. And now with this SSD running, I will continue to do so for some time more.

The laptop will not power, just a flashing yellow when the power connector is plugged?

  • Equium A60-157 will not power

    Hi people!

Could someone offer a bit of expertise and tell me whether or not the series Equium A60 - 157 has a center pin in its socket? I need to know that my laptop doesn't have one and it will not power! I'm deeply frustrated because I paid at the time £999 and it doesn't work!

I have a feeling that the PIN has cracked and is now part of my dc adapter but I need to be sure before I get it fixed!

Also if this is the case anyone Kow how much it may cost to do fix an indicative maybe!

    Cheers for your help!

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Yes, I think the A60 use an outlet that has a central pin. The CAP at the end of the head of the AC must have a central hole. You can find that the spindle broke and is now stuck in the plug on the power cord. This is not a rare event on the series of satellites, laptops.

The bad is more Servicers will simply replace the motherboard (where the socket is together) rather than perform a repair to the component level. It is obviously a costly option for you, but is probably more faster/easier for the repairman.

I have, in the past, tried unsuccessfully to find a source for the plug for my A30 (just in case) but I only managed to find a supplier who could provide a component of second hand provided by a junk motherboard. :-(

  • laptop will not power. No blue light with ad adapter not plugged in.

Lately, I've been jump the battery in and out to get the laptop (dv6) to propel to the top. This afternoon after a morning's work, the blue laptop ac adapter light does not illuminate and the laptop will not power.
Naturally, I suspect the battery, but maybe it's the AC adapter. If all goes well, it is not the computer itself!

Any ideas on what I should buy first. Am on business in Dubai and desperate!

    Thank you
    Jeff.

    Solved. Sort of.
I bought a new battery and everything works as it should.
The real question now is why stop a bad battery the notebook powered with the AC adapter is plugged?

  • Workstation Dell Precision T7400 will not power with ATI Radeon 5970 installed

    Hello

I had my dream, the monster bi - GPU ATI Radeon 5970 video card and installed in my T7400 but the system will not start, all I get is a fast fan rotation and a kind of sounds from food, a bit like "Brrrnt, click on" led me to believe that the power supply could not handle my video card.

The video card requires an 8pin and 6-pin power plug. When I plug the 8-pin and 6-pin and turn on the computer, is a no-go as shown above. When only the power plug 6-pin I plugged the PC sounds like it will start, the power of fans but no display as I expect.

I tried this video card into the two PCI-Express slots with the same failure as a result. The computer works fine with the Nvidia Quadro 3700 in it... using a 6 power connector pins.

I got the ATI Radeon HD 5970 video card in a store of the local computer and it had tested ($15) because I didn't test it in a spare computer and video card passed with flying colors...

That's why I thought my 1000 Watt power supply was a problem, so as a bet, I ordered a replacement off eBay and received a sweater to work more the wiring harness and completely replaced the two who has a job to say the least! Have you tried to replace the wire bundle? a lot of work...

I got it all back together, crossed my fingers and prayed and tried again and the same thing... NO LUCK... I put the graphic card Nvidia Quadro 3700 back in and the system of power like a charm.

What on earth could it be the cause for it? I REALLY want to get this video card works in this system.

I even tried a bios update and carefully watched the card mother and everything that I could to see if there's... nothing exploded capacitors...

Please HELP - I want to get my game...

    Wesley

I think I found the solution and I would like to mention it here to help others if they get him...

A: the power of Dell for the T7400 was designed to produce five rails 12 volts @ 18 AMPS each and the video card requires approximately 45 to 50 amps to work properly. Video cables (one with a 8 pin) and 6-pin on the harness even seems to only provide amps 18 or more and the computer will not power because power protection circuit sees too many amps being requested by a 'rail' and turns off immediately...

I went to electronics of FRY in San Jose and bought a few cards that helped divide the current between different sources, such as the cables of the hard drive and video.

B: I have a small battery backup power unit and my T7400 was plugged into the saved game... When I got the video card to work, he could make a beep loud and after minutes cutting my T7400 due to the mainstream power support... I plugged the computer into a 'surge protector' but not battery backed up to the slot and since then had no problems...

Now after several tests including FurMark, my graphics card stress works very well in this system... This is due to an unfortunate design in the T7400 power supply and wiring... Now that I have this solved, I hope that someone else can benefit...

Get an adapter like this one, it allows to separate the power sources for the 8 power connector pin and use the PIN 6 original which is connected to the Dell printer condition 8 pin adapter, for the 6-pin slot... hope that makes sense... by trial and error, you got it right!

  • Dell XPS 12 - will not start / turns on after hard reset

Last night I was with my XPS w12 in laptop mode on battery and he finally went down to 7% of the capacity.  At this point, it turns off the display and I moved my office to connect the power adapter (thinking it would simply turn the display when there was enough power...  The screen never came back (I waited 15-20 minutes), but the battery has been recharged.  At that time, I tried a hard reset by holding the power button for 5 to 10 seconds.

When I tried to turn it on, nothing happened.  No backlit keyboard, no screen, just the fan.  The light never came the switch either. So I tried an another hard reset with the same results.  I even tried to turn it on with the "D" button held down for on board diagnostics and got nothing more than the start of the fan.

I thought it might be an overheating problem, so I let it set for an hour and tried again - none other than the fan. It seems that the laptop does not pass the initial diagnosis and not even up to the point where the bios starts to load.

I really thought that my cell phone was dead and ready for use.  I took it in the office the next day so I could call Dell Support Pro. Just for fun, I plugged with the AC adapter and tried to turn it on - viola!  It started working again.

I had this problem once before, and he began to work after 2-3 resets hard. I was working on a proposal when the laptop went down. I tried reset hard over a period of 4 hours with no result. It baffles me why it start OK the next day morning.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.  I am running the A07 BIOS (the most common) and my 12 XPS is configured with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB SSD with an i7 and Intel wireless card.

Any suggestions on this diagnosis? The hardest part is then if fails, the failure is total - you are unable to diagnosis. When she comes back, all right, and there is than any event in the event log that relate to the failure.

OK - I narrowed down it to the following:

When the laptop is "asleep", it will finally in power mode. It seems that connect a power adapter for the laptop at this point will enter a State of confusion, when the button is pressed, the laptop fan turns on but no light on the power button or on the keyboard – the screen remains blank.  Laptop fan works (it is very quiet - he must hold the phone to your ear to hear it).

I don't know if the cause is a low battery or if the issue is simply with the State of the CPU to power down.  All I know is that when it happens, if I disconnect the power adapter and press and hold the power button until the fan of the laptop turns off, the hard reset allows him to come back normally.  If you leave the adapter attached, it will charge the battery but will not allow the laptop start.

I said this experiment several times with the same result every time. I'm guessing that there is a bug in the BIOS that defines an error state that are resolved with the associated power Board. Do the hard reset without the adapter seems reliable to fix the problem.

  • XPS 8700 will not feed radeon hd 7790

I bought this computer a month ago and I tried to upgrade the gpu, but it will not produce a video signal. I was able to use the radeon, even in an old pc (Dell Studio since 2009 under win vista) with the same power supply that I use in the XPS (Corsair 500W) specification. I installed both in the XPS specification, but the radeon does not illuminate. I connected the cable 3 x 2 but no luck. I went to the geforce gt 635 which has been installed in the factory and works well for all the components work. I think that the power supply should be more than enough, but I don't see other reasons, it will not work. I tried to install the drivers (and uninstall geforce) before putting the card in as well. I had to use the Corsair PSU because the original 460W did not have a record of 3 x 2. It's the video card:

Can someone tell me where I can find a list of what means the various sequences of flashing of LED on a Tecra M9?

I have one that will not be running at all and the power light flashes a particular model of amber.

    Toshiba Tecra M9
    PTM91E-04R03TEN

    Hello

I think that such a list of error codes for the LEDs are not available. I've never seen such lists on the Toshiba site, I guess they are no longer available to the authorized service provider.

But you can try this: remove the battery and the AC adapter at least an hour. Then connect the two devices again and try to start the laptop.

If it doesn t work an ASP needs to ask for help. They can give you professional help and fix it.

    Hello

I guess you used is not not original and not supported AC adaptor / CC. I guess that the problem came from the AC adapter / CC.
If the power supply microprocessor detects a malfunction, the DC IN icon flashes orange. The boss of blinking indicates an error. The blink code must convert the hexadecimal error code.

The battery LED will be flashing?

    You have error messages?

If you remove the laptop battery, reconnect the cable to the notebook AC power, then turn on, it powers the laptop?

Please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge arrester, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet.
