10 windows on e6420
Hello
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my e6420. I wonder if there will be drivers for Windows 10 for my machine. Is anyone here able to answer this question?
Welcome them
Hauke
Hi chocochipsbaer,
Thanks for posting on the Forum.
Since Windows 10 is currently in beta phase, the availability for drivers are very rare. I installed the Win 10 operating system on a few machines to test here at the office, and what I've found, is that there are a lot of drivers are already installed in the software. For pilots who were not, I would like to get the drivers Windows 8.1 and they would work.
After that win 10 rolls more this year for sale, pilots will come available as manufacturers offer the operating system on their products. Many of the manufacturers are to test their products with Win 10 and may begin to offer drivers, but until it is released for sale, you will not see a lot of drivers out there.
Kind regards
Robert

Audio problem with Dell Latitude E6420 and Windows 8.1
Hello community,
I installed Windows 8.1 on my Latitude E6420 and I can get the sound to work. I installed the drivers available for Windows 8, but he doesn't play any sounds. The only thing that works continuously via a browser (e.g. youtube). When I test the device "speakers / headphones ' this is for me a"Failed to play test sound."but the"helmet of communication"device works without any problem.
I can not activate the device "speakers / headphones" because it blocks other applications (Lync 2013) so I have to keep this option disabled.
I look on the web for similar problems and it all points to the drivers for the video card (!)
Is there a version of driver for this model? Or I can not use the latest version of the software in this model?
Hello. See here for a list of Dell of the models that work with 8 and 8.1. Dell recommends not installing 8.1 on the Latitude E6420 model. Dell said 8 is correct but does not provide an audio driver IDT even for 8. I don't think that there will be provided by any Dell IDT audio driver for 8.1 since it is not recommended to install. This means that you must use the native audio driver supplied with Windows. The native driver is generic and you can usually get audio to work when using it but not all functions are working properly. All I can suggest is to find the generic audio driver in Device Manager (I don't know how it is in the list) and try to 'update' by allowing Windows to search for an update on the internet.
Maybe someone at our Windows 8 jury can suggest an audio driver IDT, you can try to use. If you post here tell them that you already posted on the Audio card to the laptop so that they will not move your message here.

Framework of biometric Latitude E6420 - Broadcom USH drivers windows
Hi experts,
Ask you to check this old_post
http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19485564/20278666.aspx#20278666
I have the same problem, even after you have reinstalled the drivers in the order as suggested by Dell.
I installed "CV_WBF_Setup_Y2GT8_64bit_ZPE.exe".
[1] double-click on the .exe with option of compatibility in windows 7 and the checkbox on the valuerun as administrator (best option).
[2] click on ok for a Floder pop-up.
[3] now install you the driver (this will clear the yellow color material highlighted in)Device Manager)
[4] reBOOT and then install the Firmware (set to the same level provided firmware alongwith driver).
[5] reboot-> connection (with password :-|) and verify biometric devices in control pannel.)
you try to check biometric devices in Control Panel and lettering.you might get the ERROR below:
"configuration of broadcom ush host components BrcmFMA.exe - by-side is incorrect.
Details correct as below:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Corporation\Broadcom BroadcomUSH Host Components\BrcmFMA.exe. Dependent assembly

diagnosis.
solution is to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x 64).
now the problem is that the finger print data are saving :(
I continued to ask dell support team.
the big joke, it's what they call it as OFF FIELD.

OK Dell has finally released drivers for Windows 8. Its a few steps so here's how I worked on all our machines.
Uninstall the Dell Data Protection if you have it installed.
Download the firmware and driver here:
Driver: www.dell.com/.../latitude-e6420
Firmware: www.dell.com/.../latitude-e6420
Extract the firmware and install it. You must run it in high command line and be sure to select the x 64 Installer.
Reset
Once installed, you can install the driver from Dell ControlVault
Restart and you should now see the biometric device. The software will be Broadcom now instead of Dell and you can save your fingerprints.
Kind regards

Latitude E6420: no switchable graphics in Windows XP?
Hi all
The 6420 Latitude that I bought a few weeks ago came with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, with which worked switchable graphics Intel/Nvidia. Now with Windows XP, Device Manager shows only the Nvidia card, no trace or the onboard Intel. I'm assuming that means that the machine works always with dedicated graphics under XP. My hypothesis is correct, or I forgot something? (I tried to install Intel drivers, but received messages to the effect that the system is not supported).
TIA,
Shady
That's correct - XP does not support switchable graphics.

Problem of built-in Webcam Latitude E6420
Hello
I can't get the webcam integrated on my Latitude E6420 works correctly. It works fine in my browser at times, on sites like this http://vyew.com/s/browsertest/, but not at all in applications such as Dell Webcam Central and Skype.
Are there other drivers, I can try to install except those automatically detected by Windows 7? I've had no luck in finding such.
Thanks in advance.
I solved the problem by adding a StringValue named UpperFilters, with the value ksthunk to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\ {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} using Regedit.

Latitude E6420 Dell - made helmet taken stop the internal speakers to work
recently bought a Dell latitude E6420 i5 - 2520 M 8 GB and I have a very annoying problem with the speakers.
The sound from the speakers worked until I plugged in the plug of headphones into the computer for the first time - when I unplugged the headset internal speakers stop working completely.
What I've tried so far without success:
- Uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers / windows sound
- I tried Realtek drivers
- Helmet off
- Recovery and reinstall Windows 10
What is strange, is that whenever I have uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers speakers begin to work again until I plug the plug of the headphones and again speakers stop working. Any idea?
Please let me know what you need to know on my computer in order to better understand the problem and I will change the question accordingly.
Thank you!
I solved windows native audio driver installation

Apparently, this is a known problem with drivers Realtek on Dell Latitude.

Latitude E6420 Fingerprint Software
Hello, I have a Latitude E6420 with a fingerprint reader. Unfortunately can use it just for the lgon windows, not to other programs with the password request. Is there an alternative to the software dell or is it just misconfigured?
Hello and thanks for responding.
Sorry, I don't understand that.
Can I use my reader of fingerprints for other devices? How to?
Maybe its my bad English?
I want to use my fingerprint instead of typing the passwords with the keyboard.
If this does not work then why my laptop has a fingerprint reader?

Reference Dell E6420 randomly not SSD detection at startup
Specifications of the computer:
Dell Latitude E6420, Intel Core i5 2520 M, 2 x 4 GB = 8 GB of RAM, Nvidia NVS 4200 M, 250GB HDD, Win 7 Pro 64, Bios A23
The value of operation SATA AHCI and not quick start. I have 3 of these computers. They are all out of warranty.
I replaced the original 7mm Hitachi 250 GB for the Intel 535 240 GB SSD HARD drive.
I used Acronis True Image 2016 to clone the hard disk SSD. Cloning process is very much like on any other computer.
The problem is that each cold 4 or 5 boots the computer cannot find the SSD drive. Restarting the computer solves the problem of that time. I have to find a solution. I want to sell them with a SSD and not with a HARD drive.
I tried the things:
Update the Bios of the A14 to A23.
Put a spacer of 2mm on the SSD and of course the resettlement of the SSD.
Exchange for another Intel 535 120 and 240 GB.
Clean install of windows I knew was a waste of time because it does not affect the BIOS does not detect not things.
Googling the problem for hours.
Call dell?
Use another brand of SSD? He probobly won't make any difference to look at other threads.
Use a HARD drive? Last resort. I can't stand slow hard disks regularly.
Reference Dell E6420 seems to work with a Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB instead of the Intel 535 very well. Tested over a period of 3 months with no problems. Threw 535 readers intel in the desktop instead.

I tested the new taxi driver for E6420 windows 7. and it works. the TPM returned to the old dated 2006, but aleast there is not in conflict. I had lance MBAM and seems to work correctly. So I think that the new taxi driver for e6420, dell took the TPM driver and so it can use the windows driver. works for me...

No answer to my question on the installation disc that you used, I can't offer any reasonable interpretation of the facts. It was a Dell reinstall drive or was it an installation disc of [unbranded] generic?
I know that you are in New Zealand. If I assume that you posted results MGA here as soon as you ran the utility MGA, your system clock is fast half-day. If there is any difference between the MGA running and then display the results the system clock is even faster. No calculations of jet lag can explain how the utility MGA reported Trusted time at 08:47:29 10/02/2016 because even now it is, in my view, 09/02/2016 19:24 for you.
'only' means only.
Dell started putting CoA labels in the compartment to batteries from their notebooks several years ago. The only labels that they leave on the bottom are black sheet [model number, voltage, the markings of conformity] and their own white label showing the serial number. I'm surprised that they do not for your. Just on the off-chance that this part of the thread was a misunderstanding, it's what looks like a typical Dell CoA label [yours should say Pro instead of Home prem]
If your unreadable label does not resemble, look in the battery compartment.

Problems of E6420 with SSD SATA3
I've been running my E6420 with a standard drive RPM Hitachi 7 k for over a year without any problems. For reference, the disc label shows SATA 3 Gb/s (i.e. SATA2).
I recently got a neutron GTX SSD Corsair, which of course supports SATA3. When installing in Bay SATA internal of my E6420, the BIOS usually does not recognize the disc at all, although sometimes the BIOS sees it, but Windows 7 does not start with various "I/o error',"General read error"or"missing bootmgr"messages.
Interestingly, if I put the SSD in an eSATA enclosure, the SSD is systematically identified correctly in the BIOS and Windows 7 installs and starts well enough, but at slow speeds of the eSATA port.
Now... Before point us to the drive being bad, I installed the SSD drive in a desktop equipped with a port SATA3 and DSS ran flawlessly at full speed.
So, it seems NOT to be a problem with the drive.
That said, it's always a weird situation that, apparently, Bay SATA internal of my E6420 is very happy with the conduct of a RPM Hitachi 7 disc k SATA2 speeds up, but has problems with a SATA3 SSD.
Any ideas? Is it possible to control the internal SATA Bay and perhaps force mode SATA2 or SATA3? I guess that all this should be automatic...
Thank you!
Well, I'm happy to announce that my neutrons Corsair GTX is now functioning very well in my E6420. Unfortunately, it took 2 motherboard replacement, but now I'm all good! ATTO shows 450-500 MB / s, which is awesome! Thanks for all the tips on the road, just the world - but it looks like it was just a problem of material in the end.
