  I use my EA4500 wireless router in my home network with success for a year, using the parental controls without major problems, until recently (last 2 weeks).  Now, whenever I try to access Parental controls, either from my Smart WiFi app on my phone, or from Internet Explorer on any computer browser, whenever I try to access Parental controls, I received the following error message: "unexpected error 2118"  We encountered an unexpected error.  If this problem persists please visit our technical support site. "Other features of the router seems to work properly.  I checked I have the firmware updated on the router.  I tried to reboot the router, the modem, all computers to the system, and of course, my phone, but still not the same error when I try to access the parent controls.  The last settings always seem to be in effect, based on trying to access a site blocked since one of the computers, but I can't make changes to parental controls settings.  Anyone have any ideas?

  You need to reset the router to factory settings and reconfigure. Reset to the default values can be made through the user interface.

• EA4500 of installation support

  Currently, I have a Netgear router installed. Just bought the EA4500. Came with a CD, so I unplugged the existing router, brought the CD and started to follow along. Installed the modem cable, installed the cable from the computer and turned on 4500. He first tries to find an available wifi network, but it can not, of course, because I unplugged my old router. He then tries to find the computer that is connected using the ethernet cable, but it comes back with a message that I do not seem to have a connected computer. I tried several times, even reconnected the cables, but not luck.

  I simply moved the cables of the 4500 to the Netgear, and everything went well in moments. So, I proved that the cable between the modem and the router is OK, and even with the cable to the computer. (If they work with the Netgear, they should work with the Linksys?) It seems to be caught in a loop: I tried a chat session with the support of Linksys, but without the Linksys connected, they really couldn't troubleshoot it online - and of course, when I move the cables to the Linksys, it's the end of the chat session. If nobody can offer a help here, I guess I'll try phone support.

  But does anyone have an idea. Is 4500 dead out of the box? LED display seems to be OK on Linksys when I plug the cable, have only one Internet Yellow (cable modem) port to try, but I tried to connect all ports in blue, with the same result. Over the years, I have install all other routers (including a Linksys) and never had a problem.

  FYI, my current router is connected to the desktop using an ethernet cable, and I have a wireless connection to 3 separate Roku boxes for streaming video, my wife and I have a tablet that connect us via wifi. Any help would be appreciated, I must be missing something somewhere?

  Chris, thanks for your response. I have tried to configure using configuration Smart yesterday, for example, all did not speak because I got the same result. Did some reading and watching videos YouTube last night and found a couple of common themes: temporarily disable the Windows Firewall and then tell the setup to complete (even without recognizing the Internet access), and then configure the router off line and go from there.

  I tried this morning and while I had a few "bumps in the road" for more, I am proud to say that I now have an EA4500 which is fully configured and working, I've linked it to all devices I want (Roku, tablets, Kindle), created my Linksyssmartwifi login and password, and I fly high!

• EA4500 wireless connection problems

  I have several devices connected to my EA4500 (two wired computers, two laptops without wireless, iPhone, iPad and a network drive).

  I was not able to connect to all new wireless devices.  New portable computers laptops, PS3, friends.  Error message suggests that the password is entered incorrectly, but I change the word very basic (stupid proof) password but no luck.  Please notify.

  Ends upwards to reset the router and now all is good.  Odd.

  N °, this means that the browser does not trust the certificate sent by the router. The connection is always encrypted.

• EA4500 doesn't have a firmware update?

  Due to a new internet connection and router free (Fritzbox... very decent) my new ISP, I got the idea to stop using us as a bridge on the floor of the seconds of my house and the EA4500 as my main router. I connected it connected to my PC and I saw there was a possible upgrade for the firmware... might as well.

  By clicking on the button upgrade was not really successful, there is a status bar not go/improvement for about 5 minutes, so I dropped that one. Downloaded the right file here: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=148385 and downloaded one manually, improved status bar and I got the message the router has been reset. Sweet, I thought... but alas the router has not been handed over in line and the port light keeps blinking. Waited for about half an hour before trying to remedy.

  Tried so far:

  1 soft reset

  2. hard reset

  3. power off, wait a few minutes, hard reset again

  After the above, still only a flashing light to port. Any ideas?

  I've done everything correctly to my knowledge, but the ports are not opened. I called my ISP and they claim to be not stop blocking ports. If there is problem of the ISP could someone explain to me exactly what I should ask them or tell them to do the next time I called their hotline?

  Also when I put the router mode dMZ (a mode that I understand to open all my ports) my ports are still closed which I don't really quite understand.

  To find out if this is a concern to the ISP, remove the router from the loop and connect your computer directly to the modem and do the ping test in this way. If the ports are still closed, then better check your ISP. I've seen other messages here in the forum in which their ISP did not allow for some ports to open same modem. If test you better than one.

• EA4500, network drive doesn't work without access to the secure folder

  The map I try the USB hard drive connected to my EA4500 router as a network drive in Windows 7 and it works perfectly until I have enable access to files on the router.

• EA4500 - a wireless device of many with internet connectivity problem

  I wonder if anyone can comment on a subject that I have with a (a) wireless on my home network devices.  The problem is that a Dell laptop knows slow or no internet connectivity using wireless at all.  Sometimes 1-2 minutes to load one page, other times the message 'not able to display the Web page' dreaded.  That's using Ethernet.  I have another laptop (brand/model exact even) and it has no problem.  I also have a Macbook Pro and other IOS from Apple (iPod/iPad) devices which are very good.  Several connected Ethernet devices are very good as well.  The laptop in question had no problem with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG and a WRT-54GS v2.  This laptop was the first day or two on the EA4500, but something happened that causes this problem.  I had to add the WAP55AG on my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to dismantle the other devices.  Suggestions regarding what I can do to fix this are greatly appreciated.

  Thanks for the suggestion.  I tired who, but it did not work.  I then called Dell and they found that the wireless adapter on battery power has been set to maximum power saving.  Changed for maximum Performance and it's been very well.  Fortunately there is nothing wrong with the router.  Thanks again for the suggestion.

• Unable to connect to the ftp to EA4500 usb storage device

  I am unable to connect to my hard drive on the EA4500 from a remote device (pc or mobile) using the ftp protocol.

  The drive is a WD 1 TB and is supported. I use cisco smartwifi to set it up. The player is accsessable on my local network, capable of map and data flow of the connected player on all LAN devices. I have ftp on and implement a file secured with username and password. I tried to connect with the "filter anonymous internet customers' on and outside. I have reset the router 3 - 4 times. Maybe im does not connect make properly. WiFi Smart Displays the FTP server: ftp: / / 172.30.1.19:21. Whenever I try to connect to 172.30.1.19 port 21 in a web browser or ftp program, I get "cannot find server message. I've read through the forums and have not been able to find a solution. Help, please. Thank you.

  So the fix for MY problem was just re-aranging my network would invest and the linksys as being the first unit WAN/LAN on the network of front loading.

• Mail is always "Download Messages".

  I noticed that Apple Mail is always "Download Messages".  This process will occur approximately every 10 minutes.  This is usually between 250 and 270 messages.  (screenshot)  However, there is no double or extra emails.  In addition, the number of downloaded emails usually does not change (perhaps by 1 or 2 later in the day).

  

  I have 4 email accounts in Mail, which are all Gmail accounts.  I went through each account settings and made sure they are all handled in the same way and have the same options are checked.

  I think I found the problem with account, because I tried with the right button and select "Take account offline" when I see that it starts to download the messages.  Once I have put offline, the download stops.  I tried to remove this suspected account and Add again, but it still does the same thing.  Any help would be appreciated!

  Go into the Contacts application and ensure that it uses the same account synchronization like the iPhone and other devices you may be using.

  Also check the part of the accounts of the Contacts application preferences and make sure that it's only using one account.
