2950 PE + PERC 6 / I and RAID recovery

Hi, I'm new on PowerEdges. You are looking for a little direction in case we ever encounter hard drive problems. We receive a couple of 2950 III server that will run 6 ESXi and hosting a number of virtual machines. I intend to create RAID 1 or 5 berries.

Lets say that a record in the table don't die, is recovering is easy to install a new drive and put it as a hot spare?

The other big question is, what happens if one of the PERC 6 / I cards to die and I need to replace the card or I move the drives to the other server. How could I go to safely recreate the RAID configuration for drives WITHOUT losing data? It's one that worries me the most, and I can't find a real answer to online.

I know that the RAID should never be used as a substitute for appropriate backups, but if it is possible to recreate the table with all the data intact, that would be amazing.

Thank you!

Hello
If a drive dies and replace you it, he must rebuild without having to set it as a hot spare. If the controller dies, the RAID are stored on disks and they present themselves as a foreign configuration or a replacement controller and which could be imported and used.

OK, so I use a server Dell PowerEdge 2900 with a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller

I have configured the RAID array very well, installed Windows 2008 R2 and works fine and dandy

The only problem I encounter is that, when starting the server (Post), I get a message on the cable SAS B are not connected or misconfigured.  The bottom of the basket on my server, which goes to the internal drives, has only a port where I can plug a cable between the Perc 6 / i.  Where is the 2nd wire supposed to go?  I can't find the second port.

    Thank you

    Hello

PERC connector 0 goes to the bottom of basket. Connector on the PERC 1 connects to the modular Bay. If you don't have the module Bay optional then you ensure that you use the 0 on the PERC and not the connector 1.

  • PERC 6/E and PERC 6 / i Firmware download - it's actually the same file?

My Dell PowerEdge R710 has two PERC 6 / i and PERC 6/E installed. Both with RAID arrays active. I do an update of the system (BIOS, iDRAC, the life cycle, OpenManage and PERC firmware). I noticed that I have downloaded two files DUP of the firmware for the PERC 6 / i and 6/E and they seem to be identical in all but name.

    Do both?

    • SAS - RAID_Firmware_3H5G8_WN32_6.3.3 - 0002_X00. EXE
    • SAS - RAID_Firmware_F96NR_WN32_6.3.3 - 0002_X00. EXE

It is advisable to run updates for internal/external controllers, because they "may" have differences in the firmware. The payload for updates in THIS version are the same... an update can update them both, but I suspect it will update the device it was intended.

  • What is the different between firefox "Sync Key" and "key recovery"?

The problem is: I can't get my data from server. I have my key to 'Sync', and I used it several times before, but now Firefox says its wrong. Are 'sync key' and two 'recovery key' names to a single key or its two different keys?

There is no difference between tho two names, they both refer to the sync key that is used to encrypt data locally before sending it to the sync server.

Try creating a new profile as a test to check whether your profile is the source of the problems.

    See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

Rich, Yes, the DVD can take the place of the partition.  However, I would test to ensure that they work properly before you delete the partition of the DVD.
Yes, however, it will restore your computer to its original state.  This means that you will no longer Win 7, but programs and original OS.

  • C670 - 10 p and image recovery satellite facility

Hello. I have a C670 I had starting problems. I tried the backup of disks that I created when I got the machine, but they did not. I had an extended warranty with the company I bought the laptop from and I sent it to them to get the problem sorted. As the backup of disks did not work, what they have done is reinstall windows, and I lost the software and system recovery disc HARD on the D drive that come on the machine. Lesson learned here I think.

If I had to buy a whole Toshiba backup discs it would bring back the machine to his condition of "out of the box.

    Thank you in anticipation

I don't remember my password or security questions, and email recovery is an old, that I no longer use. What can I do?

You will need to contact support in the country where you are (and therefore the country on your account) for questions (and the password) reset: Contact Apple for the Apple ID account security support

If your country is not on this page, then try this form to contact Support: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

When they have been reset you can then update your email address of relief for possible future use: on your Apple ID - Apple Support email addresses

Or if it is available in your country, you can substitute 2-step verification: frequently asked questions about two-step for Apple ID verification

  • Updated SL500 and OS recovery Media (s)

    Hello world

This is my first purchase of laptop and I did some research as to what long I must/need to do before messing with the system.

Please bear with me as I have a few general questions and the search function track me not enough for all the responses.

My OS is Vista Home Basic.

At startup, I typed recovery leading to "Create recovery media", "Create product recovery media" and "rescue and recovery".

I made backups of these three programs.

To "Create the product recovery media", it has created 3-disc Start recovery disc i) and ii) product Recovery Disc 1 and 2

For "Create recovery media", it created i) recovery and rescue boot disk

Now, after you create the recovery of two types, it is safe to assume that I can delete the Q: Partition.

Here are some questions that puzzled me:

    1. What is the difference between the product recovery media and the recovery media?

If I can answer my own question, product recovery media restore the laptop to its factory as well as the 3 partitions EVEN AFTER State I've done a 'clean install' of Vista and removing all partitions. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have no idea what a recovery media as product recovery media seems to do everything.

    2. what type of recovery (of the two mentioned above) is the operating system Vista pre installed inside I should decide to go back to Vista.

My guess is the product with its OS and Lenovo recovery media drivers + utilities.

    3. should I decide to go and install W7 Pro, once versions or Lenovo official drivers (because I can not directly upgrade Home Basic to Pro), is possible to always use the product and revert to Vista Home Basic recovery media, assuming that what came as factory settings have all been removed.

    4. and finally, I'll be able to make any kind of recovery media after a fresh install of W7? (I think a definitive answer will arise come W7 launch date, but it does not hurt to ask )

Thank you very much for reading a long and perhaps repetitive for some, post.

I always visit the forums then I hope I'll learn new things through time.

    1. recovery of product support will include your ad OS drivers that get you with your system

2 medial recovery allows you to enter in the rescue and recovery environment

You can use the product recvoery support to return to Vista Home Basic, if you want to

You cannot do any recovery media after installing windows 7, because that has not been delivered with your system

  • Need your Help_Reformat diskless resettlement and the recovery partition deleted

    Hello.

Please kindly help me to reformat my laptop G4 2014. Unfortunately I have no recovery disk and my recovery partition is already deleted.

Thanks in advance for the help that you can give her.

Just as I said, the web document, I provided the link for you to give options that are available to you.

You or someone else with access to your laptop made some decisions aware, perhaps unfortunate not to create a recovery media and removal of the recovery partition.

These decisions lead to choices that can be found on the web document that I you provided a link to.  An alternative is to buy a DVD of installation of Microsoft in the operating system of your choice.

  • Statrted of Vista in safe mode and systm recovery restores and no recoverydisk not found?

Statrted of Vista in safe mode and systm recovery restores and no recoverydisk not found? Sys restore is off and will not turn on and due to safemode noting els / programs will not work. is there a way out?

    Hi Jeff,

    1. you receive messages or error codes?

    2. did you of recent changes on the system?

If you are able to boot into safe mode without any problem, you can try to perform a clean boot and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

You can read the following article to put the computer in a clean boot:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Method 2:

If you are always faced with the question, then you can check if you can start your computer by using the known last good Configuration feature and fix the problem.

You can read the following article to do the same thing:

Using the last good known Configuration

    Method 3:

If the steps above fail, then you must have a full version of Windows Vista disk and try to perform a repair of the boot to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) boot from the installation disc.

If restarting fails, then try to perform a restore of the system to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment).

For more information, you can consult the following article:
