I worked on a script to automate the creation of volumes in the storage Center, map to a cluster object, present features in vSphere and create VMFS data warehouses. I have the logic works as I want to, but when I use a CSV file to create multiple volumes at the same time, the script will frequently hold after the creation of the second or third volume. The center of storage of logs seem to indicate that my connection is denied for any reason any. I have a beautiful case with Copilot, I just thought I would check to see if someone else had run into similar problems? In this case against SCO 6.4.5 and 6.5.10.

Looks like it's maybe a problem with the Compellent 7.1.0.4 command set. The script works as expected with the command Set version 7.0.0.4. CoPilot will continue its investigation as a bug as possible.

  • Can someone direct me to resources on how you get TWO esx servers to the same storage array?

    Hi all

    I use:

    2 x Compaq DL380 G2 with 5i

cards controller 5300 AND attached to the base storage Bay

STORAGEWORKS ENCLOSURE 4354R RM DOUBLE PORTS U3 (not yet pregnant

    compatibility list).

The first server appears to see the good in the console of the virtual server storage Center.  The second server will see s for only its own storage room tho.  How do both to see and use the same storage.  The concept is new to me, but trying to learn.  Is there something I need to see the same storage in the virtual Center for TWO machines esx Server?  All IM just not in the right place?  Thank you.

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/78873 was a previous thread on this can enlighten us. Looks like the 4354R has the bus is divided into 2 x 7 disks and each connector in the back can 'see' 1 of the two buses. The quickspecs (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10624_div/10624_div.html) refer to "... allows access to two areas of storage separated from two different servers. So the first "thing" would be to get two buses attached together inside the unit so that the two connectors on the back see all readers, you must get the endpoint SCSI disabled on the device (you want termination on each 'end' of the cable that is two SCSI adapters in the servers).

While you might be able to get the 4354R shared between the two ESX hosts, you can also get all the benefits of the shared disk + the possibility of vMotion, etc. by implementing the 4354R known as iSCSI or NFS storage. It also swings you back to something that is 'supported '. To do this, you have two approaches

    1. Fix 4354R on one of the ESX boxes, create a virtual machine that has access to the entire disk on the 4354R and run something like OpenFiler in the virtual machine to 'share' the disk via NFS or iSCSI

    2. Set up a 3rd server if you have one available and run the version of "bare metal" OpenFiler, or install Linux or OpenSolaris distribution and configure NFS and/or iSCSI target.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 - configuration redundant server

    Hi all

I am setting up two servers for a company and trying to set them up so that if omitting server01, server02 will resume all requests for service.  I tried to use failover clustering, but we were hoping that we could use the storage we have in servers (we installed 2 3TO drives in each and in the opposite direction of their), and failover clustering requires an external storage Center.

The two servers running Windows 2012 R2.  Initially, Essentials has been installed on them, but they have since had the keys to standard product enabled, providing the functionality of the standard on the generation of an Essentials.

Also, note that the service is not a standard Windows service, but an application.  Is also to be noted that we are not interested in the use of virtual machines of any kind (without Hyper-V, VMWare or Virtual Box).  The company is currently using old servers running XenServer, and we had problems with them.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

  • Procedure to change the IP address to the Dell compellent

We have an obligation to change the IP address of compellent Dell storage management. Here is the proposed procedure I created

1 connection to the center of storage of Dell & change the IP address of the slave controller first

    2. change the IP Address of the controller (Chief) then

    3. change the virtual IP address of management

    4. then change the config to the switch (end of network)

I am not sure with this procedure, as the change of the IP address of the controller will be the loss of connectivity management. If please specify or let me know if you have any other procedure

    Thank you

  • PowerShell list replica Replays

I am trying to automate DR creating replays of replica to mount a view to guests. I need to enumerate the replays before I can mount them, but when I try to enumerate the replays on the replica volumes, nothing is returned.

    For example:

    Get-SCReplay - SourceSCVolume $myVolume - $myConnection Connection

When $myVolume is a local volume (not replicated) This returns a list of replays. When $myVolume is a replica (from another storage Center) this command returns nothing.

Any ideas? I go about it the wrong way? I turned to scripts such as the features of Enterprise Manager Active / Test DR are not large enough to meet my needs.

    -Jonathan

I think that if you change your Get-SCReplay line for this, it should work.

    Get-SCReplay - SourceVolumeIndex $myVolume.Index - $myConnection Connection

  • Volume type

Can you change a type of volume after a volume is created, or you have to do during the creation process? I select advance when you create the volume and am not see it.

    Hello company_san,

A volume is dynamic, until at least a replay was taken from this volume.  After a replay was taken from a volume, it becomes active Replay. A volume of replication is one that is being replicated to another storage Center.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Someone at - it still deployed Enterprise Manager 2014 R2?

I just upgraded to R2 Enterprise Manager 6.4.3.8 for 2014. I have Java 1.6 to 1.7 day x 45. Also, I went from Sql express to 2008R2 Mssql.

The upgrade went well, but now all my storage disconnect every two minutes and then reconnect. EM logs show this for each:

10/07/14 04:46:28 PMWarningStorage xxxx xxxx Center is low [SN: xxxx]. Primary control to FailedStorageCenter

    Anyone having problems with 2014R2?

One thing I will try tomorrow is re - generate the certificate on storage centers. Reason in is after I upgraded my workstation from 1,6 to 1,7 U45 U45 to accommodate the new client of EM, I could no longer connect to several of my Compellents via a browser. I could only connect to one. After several hours, I realized that the SSL certificate for the one that I could connect had the certificate created with the DNS name. The others I could not, the certificates have been generated with the IP address. Creating new cert via the storage Center by using the DNS name that fixed, and they re-connected in EM yet one more time. Yet they cut every two minutes. I wonder now and will try this tomorrow, is I have just re-generated the CERT with the dns name of ip management. Looking at the wizard again, it seems to dns and IP addresses of controllers as well. Maybe this new EM fails because of that.

Anyway, just curious of other experience with R2? Thank you!

Yes, I hired with co-driver, they believe that it is something with R2 manage less than 6.5 x. R1 SC code is working great for us so :) So I'll stay parked for a while.

  • Levels of raid Volumes Compellent

    Hello.

We are looking into buying a Bay Compellent, Dell, but before I look for in its technology.

Unfortunately, the few public records on the SC8000 are very brief.

I'm looking for information how the table handles its raids, from what ive understood, when you create a volume, some data will be placed on raid 10, some on raid 5 and some might end up on raid6 (prioritization).

But the definition of these levels of raid? They simply come from all disks of a certain type, say raid10 ssd and SAS - NL's raid6. or are they built raids more as how 3par manages the CPG, creating mini-raids out of pieces of different discs?

HP also has a wealth of easily accessible information about the paintings of 3par, I can't find anything for compellent :(

    http://h20566.www2.HP.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/PSI/manualsResults?sp4ts.Oid=5044394&AC.admitted=1388181376886.876444892.199480143

OK - if really it's better done in person with someone who can demo and animate the allocations of blocks for you.

    BUT

Compellent storage virtualized Tier - so, for each level of storage (which are defined by the disks of like I/O features such as speed control, flash type, etc.) all of the devices used to treat each IO.  HDS let each LUN to have several RAID algorithms in use at the same time. The ideal on this would be to have write operations occur in RAID 10 (fastest to write) and read operations to get the RAID5/6 (more effective space). RAID types reserve NOT a specific amount of physical disks - but rather function as a method of organizing for blocks of different LUNS across all the disks in a pane.

Data Progression (Tiering) extends this feature to allow volumes exist with blocks into several levels based on age and the activity of each block. The LUN is presented as there is no difference for servers based on the location of the data and the blocks can be shifted dynamically as criteria. Recently given Progression has been expanded to allow the mixing of writing optimized and read optimized Flash SSD levels that revolutionize the market tables around without resorting to the use of SSDS as a front-end cache. Data is transferred more quickly, then a normal progression among the readers of optimized for reading writing optimized SSD to keep performance levels greater than 100 K IOPS / s while valuing the cost differences inherent in MLC drives (they are cheaper).

    http://www.Dell.com/learn/us/en/qto08/shared-content~data-sheets~en/documents~Dell-Compellent-software-suite.PDF

One thing that really sets storage Compellent, is that the license is NOT related to the material. If a controller SC8000 can be replaced without purchase of multiple licenses or invalidate the original license. The license is perpetual and abstract the hardware that is used. So if I have a HDS I bought 5 years through a license for all the features for 16 disks I can apply this license to SC8000 controllers and SSDS (up to 16 spare non-pieces) and start using it.

I think that if you use this site as your jumping off point - http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/04/dcm/flash-storage you will find a lot of information just look at software storage Center rather than the specific hardware building blocks.

  • HNAS1 CPP and unavailable Internet failure

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I just bought a Hawking Technologies HNAS1 external storage Center. I connect it to my wireless router, and when it is detected, my connection to the internet from my home network is severed. I can't connect to anything except the installation of device URL. However, which does not mean that I can actually USE the HNAS1.

When I go to the HNAS1 map, I get a dialog box asking for a password. I used my own credentials Windows 7 as well as all the names of user/passwords for the accounts that I have set up on the HNAS1. None of them work. When I go to the HNAS1 map, I get an error CPP saying that I might not have permission to use the drive. I tried to expand the permissions, but Device Manager does not even display the HNAS1.

Absolutely NOTHING of what I saw in these forums has worked for me; and I looked at a few solutions.

    Help, please!

    Hi Dragunner,

    Thank you for your message.

Apparently, this device is not compatible with Windows 7:

I don't know if it will work, but you can try to assign a static IP address for the storage server and use that instead of the name of network computer/device.

192.168.0.5 instead of the i-Drive for the instance, but the static IP address must be configured in your DHCP (router probably) server.

-How migrate virtual switchs distint to vswitch0 (in each ESX server has 3 vswitches and the installation wizard of VMS only migrate vswicht0)?? for example others vswitchs with others vlan.. please tell me how...

[Robert] After your initial installation you can easily migrate all VMs within the same vSwitch Port Group at the same time using the Network Migration Wizard.  Simply go to Home - Inventory - Networking, right click on the 1000v DVS and select "Migrate Virtual Machine Networking..."   Follow the wizard to select your Source (vSwitch Port Groups) & Destination DVS Port Profiles

-With VUM (vmware update manager) is possible install VEM modules in ESX Servers ??? or must install VEM manually in each ESX Server?

[Robert] As per the Getting Started & Installation guides, you can use either VUM or manual installation method for VEM software install.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0_4_s_v_1_3/getting_started/configuration/guide/n1000v_gsg.html

-Supposing of VUM install all VEM modules, the VEM version (vib package) is automatically compatible with build existen vmware version?

[Robert] Yes.  Assuming VMware has added all the latest VEM software to their online repository, VUM will be able to pull down & install the correct one automatically.

-is need to create PACKET-MANAGEMENT-CONTROL port groups in ALL esx servers before to migrate to Nexus 1000? or only VEM installation is enough???

[Robert] If you're planning on keeping the 1000v VSM on vSwitches (rather than migrating itself to the 1000v) then you'll need the Control/Mgmt/Packet port groups on each host you ever plan on running/hosting the VSM on.  If you create the VSM port group on the 1000v DVS, then they will automatically exist on all hosts that are part of the DVS.

-According to the Cisco manuals VSM can participate in VMOTION, but, how? .. what is the recommendation?..when the primary VMS is moving, the secondary VSM take control?? that occurs with connectivity in all virtual machines?

[Robert] Since a VMotion does not really impact connectivity for a significant amount of time, the VSM can be easily VMotioned around even if its a single Standalone deployment.  Just like you can vMotion vCenter (which manages the actual task) you can also Vmotion a standalone or redundant VSM without problems.  No special considerations here other than usual VMotion pre-reqs.

-When there two clusters in one vmware vcenter, how must install/configure VSM?

[Robert] No different.  The only consideration that changes "how" you install a VSM is a vCenter with multiple DanaCenters. VEM hosts can only connect to a VSM that reside within the same DC.  Different clusters are not a problem.

-For High Availability concepts, wich is the best choices of design of nexus? considering vmware features (FT,DRS, VMOTION, Cluster)

[Robert] There are multiple "Best Practice" designs which discuss this in great detail.  I've attached a draft doc one on this thread. A public one will be available in the coming month. Some points to consider is that you do not need FT.  FT is still maturing, and since you can deploy redundany VSMs at no additional cost, there's no need for it.  For DRS you'll want to create a DRS Rule to avoid ever hosting the Primar & Secondary VSM on the same host.

-How to migrate existent Kernel iSCSI port group to nexus? .. what are the steps? in cisco manual"Migration from VMware vSwitch to Cisco Nexus 1000V" show how to generate the port-profile, but
how to create the iSCSI target? (ip address, user/password) ..where is it defined?

[Robert] You can migrate any VMKernel port from vCenter by selecting a host, go to the Networking Configuration - DVS and select Manage Virtual Adapters - Migrate Existing Virtual Adapter. Then follow the wizard.  Before you do so, create the corresponding vEth Port Profile on your 1000v, assign appropriate VLAN etc.  All VMKernel IPs are set within vCenter, 1000v is Layer 2 only, we don't assign Layer 3 addresses to virtual ports (other than Mgmt).  All the rest of the iSCSI configuration is done via vCenter - Storage Adapters as usual (for Targets, CHAP Authentication etc)

-Supposing of the licences of VEM is not enough for all ESX servers,, ¿will happen to the connectivity of your virtual machines in hosts without VEM licences? ¿can operate with vmware vswitches?

[Robert] When a VEM comes online with the DVS, if there are not enough available licensses to license EVERY socket, the VEM will show as unlicensed.  Without a license, the virtual ports will not come up.  You should closely watch your licenses using the "show license usage" and "show license usage " for detailed allocation information.  At any time a VEM can still utilize a vSwitch - with or without 1000v licenses, assuming you still have adapters attached to the vSwitches as uplinks.

I must install nexus 1000V in vmware plataform with VDI, with severals Servers ESX, with 3 vswitch on each ESX Server, with severals virtual machinne running, two clusters defined with vmotion and DRS active and central storage with iSCSI

I have severals cisco manuals about nexus, but i see special focus in installations topics, the options for migrations is not extensive item, ¿do you have "success stories" or customers experiences of implementation with migrations with nexus?

[Robert] Have a good look around the Nexus 1000v community Forum.   Lots of stories and information you may find helpful.

    Good luck!

  • Performance problem with the guest operating system

Hello gurus - I have one of the most unusual questions, I ran into a few time.   Here it is:

I have a guest w2008R2 OS - installed in a 5.1 version of VM 7 vSpherer - which has an Emulex LPe 12002-E 8 GB dual HBA port is assigned to the as 2 PCI (1 device per port) via DirectPath devices

The guest operating system has an application that performs backup tests.   WWPN of the HBA is zoned in the fabric and declared in the interface of Compellent Storage Center and everything is good here. the application creates a replay of a volume, mount it as a drive, read all the blocks, then dismantles and moves then repeat the process with what ever additional volumes should be safeguarded.   It is so cool I have do this with a VM right and not a physical host?  (would be cool if I had work NPIV but that's another story, not with technology HBA vendor support...)

So, what's the problem?   Well, the bed the mounted disk backup will work extremely slow as slow as 5MB\sec flow, then during any other activity takes place on the system the flow jumps up to 150MB\sec all of a sudden and will continue to run fast for a long time and finish jobs on time with each work taking a little more than an hour.  But when the slow going the same work (all jobs are the same, they are simply by reading all the blocks of a bunch of 200 GB volumes and wrote a set of NULL value, do not forget this is just test) takes up to 10 hours to complete.

I think that what is the culprit?   POWER MANAGEMENT.

I have just about each performance counter and the journal of events known to man and I don't see anything abnormal on the table, ESXi virtual machine, nothing.  But what I see in the newspapers is any kind of activity that could happen in a transparent manner to save energy.

    FACTS on this case:

-Reservation of memory is defined (it must be for directpath otherwise, you can't power on the virtual machine)

-Booking CPU - has not been defined before an hour ago, I gave her just a small reserve for this rule, so I do not know if this will help alleviate the slow flow, or have an effect on what I think is a question of power (unit linked) management

-windows power management is set to high performance never-ever - but not until an hour there doesn't I changed advanced settings for USB Disabled------turned off.  PCI peripheral energy saving setting was already off.  Which is in contradiction with my theory.  But maybe, just maybe, something is broken somewhere, or could be a bug... blah blah blah

-the HBA, Emulex, as it appears in Device Manager in the guest OS doesn't have a power management tab to disable the feature, I don't see that the adapter VMXNET3 had this tab, and I turn off the power save setting to be conservative, do not think that it was the culprit, but as there is no real data running through the NIC.  The data is simply to be read from the disk mounted, not copied on any wire Ethernet.  never the less, in the Emulex properties is a Details tab and a selection of power data, and performance data indicate you what power mode, the device is, as well as feeding supported systems.  D0: full power, but D3, which shows as supported by the device, is an energy saving mode.   I could not yet attend the setting at the time of slow activity, my good intention as soon as possible. He is currently shooting in D0, full power.

This is so what I have to offer on this, I hope that its just...   If I'm missing something, or if others have experienced this massive loss of unknown flow without reason and have resolutions, please share.

If there is a way for me to disable power on the Emulex HBA management inform you please, I don't mind if I stop to enter the firmware, if that was even possible.  But if possible I would disable it immediately before any new tests are executed.

The root cause of this issue has never been identified by VMware support which for me is a question of ugly.  Reservation of CPU for the VM using directpath IO with HBA installed in it corrected the problem.  I'd be leary with direct path IO.

  • Data store 'datastore1' is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (.), but is back different physical storage

    Hello

I am new to vCenter Server, so you can assume that I'm missing something obvious.

I installed vCenter Server 5.5 and one of the two hosts of re-usable ESXi 5.0.0 connected correctly. When I try to connect to the second 5.0.0 ESXi host, I get the error message:

Data store 'datastore1' is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (.), but is supported by different physical storage

I Googled it and found what I think are the best answers that are successful, but they all seem pretty unique in their situation (they have a cluster, I do not have) etc. Some solutions involve disconnecting the store of data and reconstruction of things. I would not make things worse and can live without doubt with the help of vSphere client (and not the web client) until maybe I can start again with a 5.5 installation to a new host once I have back up everything from the host unconnectable. I closed all the VM on the host of the second. I have put in maintenance mode. I've renamed the data store, all to nothing does not.

    Thanks in advance

The problem is that a whole army could not be connected to vCenter due to the problem, the solution involving disconnection of the host apply.

Here is how I solved the problem:

1 use the client vSphere client heavy, connect you to the host that cannot not be connected to vCenter Server.

    2. click on the host computer, and then click the Configuration tab.

    3. click on "storage".

    4. find the offending on the right data store.

    5. right click on the data store incriminated and click 'remove '.

    6. click on 'Add storage' in the top right.

    7. follow the steps to find this data not mounted store. I gave him a new name just to be sure, even if it's probably not necessary.
