  I just got a call from a 'representative' of Microsoft Windos wanting me to access the internet and follow his instructions due to a serious security threat. When I questioned him, he was very arrogant. I said why would I do that to a stranger on the phone. Microsoft could just do this update. Right?

  I just got a call from someone claiming to be a representative of Microsoft to report that my network downloads could be accompanied by unwanted files without my knowledge.  I know it's a scam, but I played along anyway.  The representative asked me to press the keys Ctrl + key Microsoft Logo at the same time.  Of course I hung up immediately, but I can't find in any of my research, what will make this combination of keys.  Can anyone advise, please.  Thank you.

• I received a call from the "Department of microsoft technology.

  The appellant wanted to I go to my computer, go to start, select run, and he could help me with an error message that they were receiving. He said that I was infected by a Virus. I've been a little suspisious so I asked him for the phone number of the tech Department, he gave me a number and I called him. The lady who answered the phone was very surprised and said that the number is in no way affiliated with microsft. If there is a reason why microsoft if want to contact me, let me know and I'd be happy to call if I can find a phone number.

  These scam calls are usually of a person representing Windows rather than Microsoft, but in any case, the call was nothing else than a phishing attempt! Do not give any information.

  Reported people on these calls for a person who represents Windows (note: not Microsoft).

  It is a scam! Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

  Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

  Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.

  I was contacted by a representative from Tech-On-Line by saying he was a Microsoft Technician and called for solving some of the problems I've had with Microsoft Vista on my computer.   Received a call from 23-456-7809 today, and he told me he worked for Microsoft and said that my computer has a lot of viruses from the internet. He was also an Indian man. After that he told me to type something else in the Run dialog box and causes the word "cat", I don't remember what the rest of it was but it was a www site. This is when I knew this guy was playing me. I was not followed to type in the site "www" and "cat" in the Run dialog box. I hooked immediately after. My question is if I am at risk because I typed in 'inf '? Give him no personal information or credit card etc. numbers. Just did my Norton anti virus run and 36 risk came after the call that have been removed from my computer. I've was type in 'inf' in the run box for this guy, Im right ok?

  It took anytime control of your computer? The part 'cat' makes me leary. If it did not control, he could well have stolen information that puts you at high risk. insofar as a bank or other sensitive sites, you have the passwords for.

  You gave them remote access and if you do Internet banking, contact your bank, explain, and change passwords.

  If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

  And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

  Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

  Tonight, I received a phone call from a man claiming to be from Microsoft.  He said that they have received information that I have files on my computer infected and that he wanted to guide me through taking them off.  I told him I couldn't right now and he'll call back me tomorrow.  I need to know if this is true or a scam.  How does someone know if I had infected files on my computer at home?
