    Hi k4gdw,

We recently found a problem that occurs when a host is upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 while VMware Workstation is installed.  If this describes your situation, you can try to work around the problem if you are in a few registry changes on the host... (as always, be careful when you edit the registry!)

(The instructions are for the 64 bit version of Windows. For 32 bit, it is similar, except that there is no key Wow6432Node.)

    1. open regedit (Start button + r, or search for apps for 'regedit')
    2. navigate in the tree to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > VMware, Inc. > VMware Workstation > volatile > IsFirstRun.
    3. right click on the key to IsFirstRun , and select Remove.

Quit regedit.  Restart your host and VMs Autostart should then begin.

Please let us know if that solves the problem for you!  We are preparing a Knowledge Base article and published a fix for future work stations.

    See you soon,.

  • Restore failed Satellite M30 using the recovery CD

My laptop was running very slow because he has been blocked for 5 years. Decided to wipe and start over.
I tried a full restore using the original recovery CD in the course of which the erroneous application, leaving me with a hard drive that is detected in BIOS but not accessible in writing.

    I took measures
    -start with CD1, holding C
-Choose option 1. It has started formatting my drive

After that, I was presented with a black screen saying! ERROR!.
The log file that followed, said a failure to write with the 29005 error.

Tried to install the OS by using the WinXP CD, but it failed when the formatting (wouldn t exceed 20%)

Went out the drive, connected to my desktop via IDE > USB. It powered up and has been recognized by windows (he saw as an additional local disk in my computer).
I tried to format it NTFS in windows and got a similar failure.

Placed in the laptop, BIOS loaded and I was able to see under the menu boot devices there. Loaded by default in the BIOS in hopes that would change anything, then re-directed the resumption but got the same result - that is to say the applications can't seem to write.

    This indicates a failed drive?

He s strange cos my laptop was working fine (although slow) until I ran the recovery and deleted the data. Only thing I can think is that he wiped, I moved the laptop could have damaged it as it was written in?

    Hello

First of all it s new great that you were able to recover the laptop.

But he s strange that you are not able to install the software.
I mean the Windows operating system is running on the HARD drive and you can boot the operating system.
That's why I put t think that this could be a problem of HARD drive but nothing is impossible

However, try to check the HARD drive.
In RUN type CMD and start the console.
Here, you must use the command * F * chkdsk

This will fix all errors on the HARD drive

    Check it out!

I have Pavilion d7-4165dx laptop. I saw US, that made a purchase of the United States (BestBuy).

-HARD drive failed after renewal of antivirus software trial period.

-All diagnoses would not recognize the HARD drive.

-Support HP said still in warranty, but I am out of country.  HP said more was likely HARD drive cable.

-Buy cables and a hand off USA door.

    -Installed, always the same answer.

-Ordered the new HP's HARD drive.  Out of stock.  Finally inquiring was commissioned to a part 3rd US rep.  He recommended to buy directly from output, but higher speed.  Did this and then HP replacement HARD drive arrives.  Both outside the U.S. door hand.

-Install the fastest (slightly smaller) Seagate 500G 7200.  Has started the recovery with discs of recovery (5 in total who received from BestBuy, but not the OEM to the research), but before the new HARD drive is smaller than the original WD 640 G 5400.   Put WD #1 Bay and Seagate in #2.

-Start the process of disk recovery.  Any resumption of the process of the plant and on the last drive-through, it says do not touch while the PC starts on and outside, etc.  Said so press on continue continue.

-When the press continue, simply goes to the black screen with "No boot device...". »

-Run the other options, the same message.

-Diagnosis of ran.  Drive HARD everything is OK.

-Called HP support.  It says I have to buy the HP recovery discs.  Those I have (5) is not the right one, there should be only 3!  They are that I got from BestBuy, but look like they were made here when BestBuy configures the PC.

I want to get my virtual memory works again?
Thank you very much in advance!

I'd start first with the chkdsk/r.

Don't forget - if you have a factory installed recovery Partition, fixmbr will scan it as the Master Boot Record that written XP will equal not the MBR installed by the factory, so first run chkdsk /r (did I say that already)?

    Here are some instructions:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/RCONSOLE.htm

Where people have no XP bootable media, here are my instructions:

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

  • Follow this procedure when the Sansa Connect recovery tool does not work!

    Hey people;

This thread is just to consolidate the info from a lot a longer wire, earlier.

Currently, the Sansa Connect recovery tool may or may not work for you.  You can see an error like 'failed to connect to the Internet' or "cannot retrieve the device, SanDisk contact technical support for assistance."  If Yes, it's probably because the recovery tool is unable to download the firmware images he needs zing.net.  SanDisk has not (yet) recognized this problem.  The strange thing is that * sometimes * recovery tool works, if you already have images of the firmware on the drive... but usually it doesn't.

So here's what you do (with thanks to Larlos for providing the firmware images and order lines to their installation).  This assumes that you're 'stuck' to the "necessary recovery" post on your connection.  If not and you are in the regular menu of Sansa Connect, first follow steps 2 and 3 in this paper: http://mp3support.sandisk.com/tools/connect-recovery-instructions.pdf, do the following:

    (1) download the zip file containing the images of the http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UNLDGZ1N firmware

    (2) search for the following files in the zip file, and then copy them into the directory of your drive "C:\Program Updater Connect Device Recovery\cmdline":

    • everest_initrd_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.SRR.e
    • everest_vmlinux_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.SRR.e
    • yeverest_zap_ota_rel_1.1.2.65799.tar.gz.e
    • yeverest_zap_ota_rel_ext_prod_1.1.2.65799.SIG

    (3) in the same directory, create a file named recovery.bat that contains the following three lines:

    zsi_fw.exe w everest_vmlinux_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e everest_initrd_ext_prod_1.1.1.50239.srr.e

    zaprecover.exe t 600000 f yeverest_zap_ota_rel_1.1.2.65799.tar.gz.e yeverest_zap_ota_rel_ext_prod_1.1.2.65799.sig

    pause

    (4) connect your Sansa Connect USB.

    (5) run the recovery.bat file (double-click it in Windows Explorer, or run from a DOS command prompt).  The line of 'pause' is there only so you can see the results of running if you run it from Windows Explorer.  Expect the recovery to the end; at the end of that your connection will restart.  If Windows displays the hardware wizard detected during this process, simply cancel the wizard.

    (1) no; you see the version numbers are associated with the files of the firmware (names starting with "everest" and "yeverest" files) that you have either downloaded when you ran the recovery tool, or download in megaupload.com zip file.

    (2) Yes, it's normal.  Zing is the company that allows you to manage authentication of audio stream and firmware for the connection.

    (3) the Y! symbol indicates just that when you use the Internet Radio feature, you are streaming audio of Yahoo (in fact, now owned by CBS Radio).  There is also a function of Flickr photos, which is associated with Yahoo.

  • ACS 3.2 breaks down when the RDBMS isn't available.

Someone knows a problem connecting equipment that auths to ACS 3.2 if their ACS (ODBC) login record is down?

I have not checked this bug yet but we have picked up our computer (postgresql) of ODBC logging, it was moved to another building. Throughout the weekend that the computer was down and I couldn't log into any of my ACS devices controlled (switches, AS5200). As soon as the computer was brought back online connections have started working again.

I did not see this listed in the notes, but I may have missed. In any case I'm check if anyone else has experienced this problem and ask yourself how do I solve this problem (at least it was a bad surprise, luckly I hadn't started wireless auth to the GBA unit)

    Thank you

    Wes

It is likely, although probably not documented anywhere.

At the time current ACS works as follows:

When ODBC is configured, ACS blocks authentication until the

Log ODBC is done or has failed due to the delay. The failure of ODBC timeout

occurs when the external database is unreachable. In this case, the

authentication fails if this delay is longer than the

    timeout for the device.

Workaround to activate authentication despite the failure of logging is to increase the radius-server on the device/NAS (for example time-out

5 to 10 seconds). It can be done using the following CLI command:

"radius-server timeout 10". You may need to increase it even more depending on how long the wait time is on your ODBC database.

There is an enhancement request in to have the GBA behavior has changed, you can see here (http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCeb21974&Submit=Search). Because he considered a request for improvement, don't hold your breath waiting for that, playing with delays so that you don't get hit by it again.

  • ACS 1111 4.1 update and recovery CD

    Hello

Asked me to upgrade an ACS1111 box to use v4.1. He ran 3.2.3.11. (I usually do CiscoWorks support, but due to the shortage of resources here I am)

I want to emphasize that this device has been removed from production to test this process, so, fortunately, is not "online".

I read the notes and found that you can not skip, but have everything first put to v3.3.3.11. After I finally got the upgrade throughout the platform, I installed the Device Manager software ACS v3.3.3.11. IT ended, said he had to restart, and that was the last I saw of him. It does in no way for more than an hour. (Perhaps I didn't wait long enough...)

As it was not in production, and nothing in that needed backup, the next step was to use the recovery CD. Thought that we might as well use version 4.1, we have, so we did.

At least the device react now, although it does not recognize the network adapter.

I noticed that the recovery CD has Cisco 1113 on it. I think that's the problem. The person who asked me to work said they said it would work to 1111, 1112 and 1113 devices, but given the results that I have, I do not think so!
