Adding a wireless laptop

I have two desktop computers wired through a DSL Modem from Actiontech and a Linksys DSL Router with 4-Port-Switch. I want to add a wireless laptop to the system.

Is there a router that works with wired computers and wireless laptop?

Concerning

Jessie

Yes, there are a lot of routers that provide wireless and wired links.  In fact, I don't know everything that Linksys currently sells who can't stand not the two cables and wireless at 2.4 GHz, well that there may be some.  Just knowing what you need to go all the way bands and cover, and find a router that will do.  If you simply want to add a laptop computer, you only have 2.4 GHz. wireless to do.

    Hello

    Maybe this can help.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted

Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

  • Does not have Internet on two wireless laptops.

I recently reset my router which is just crazy. I was finally able to reset the default settings and create a new network and everything. The main computer that is connected to the router's internet if my two wireless laptops are not.

It says network not then identified my network name in parathenses

    Access: Local only

It says it is connected and has green full bars but it won't let me connect to the internet.

    Help, please. Thank you.

Also, I made sure to go to with my network properties and make sure that everything matches what is on the router set up page. I really don't know what hurts me, but any help would be appreciated.

Make sure that you don't have the static ip address on the computer... Click the Start button > Panel > Network and Sharing Center > manage Network Connection.Right click on the wireless network connection icon and go to properties - on the 'Général' tab, select "Internet Protocol TCP/IP IPV4" and click on the properties button - select "Obtain the IP address automatically" and down "obtain DNS server automatically.

  • When I try to connect with my wireless laptop will connect only to Local access. If I connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable, it works very well.

    VIsta - Local access only

    HI -.
I recently moved.   I use the same router from my old apartment and I had no problem connection in the past.   Since I moved I have a new Time Warner modem (Cisco) and the modem works fine.

The router also works very well I'm able to connect with my iPhone and IPad without any problem.

But when I try to connect with my wireless laptop, it will only connect to Local access.    If I connect the laptop to the router with the ethernet cable, it works very well.

    It's a Dell Studio 15 with Vista.

The computer is able to connect to wifi to other places without any problem, but for some reason that I can't connect home.   I tried to reset the modem and the router several times, but that did not help.   I tried the option repair & diagnose several times but it doesn't work.

I tried to look for other solutions online and tried to disable IPv6, and while it helped some and I was able to connect wireless, the computer ran so slowly that it didn't seem like a good solution.

This has been very frustrating.   Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

    Hello Staciusa,

Have you tried to change the wireless channel that your router is running at? There may be interference that could prevent the internet connection:

Take a look at step 6 in this article that give more details about it:

  • Wireless laptop cannot connect to Photosmart C5180 printer on network

I recently got a new computer, which is the main connection to our home network.  We have a laptop and a Photosmart C5180 printer.  I can't get the wireless laptop to connect to the printer, even though I have the shared printer on the pc.  I have the printer connected to the pc via a USB cable.

I see the printer shared and available on the laptop, but get the error message when you try to print.

Does anyone know what I'm missing that will allow me to print from wireless laptop?  It worked until I'm the new pc, so I know I'm missing something.  Should the laptop have both installed printer software/drivers?

Yes, the printer directly connected to a router with an Ethernet cable will be the simplest solution.

Yes, all computers will be able to access the printer on the network as long as they are connected to the same router (Ethernet or wireless, regardless).

He shared from the computer and the printer connected to a computer with a USB cable are not a real printer on a network.  This creates what is essentially a print server and the computer with the USB connection manages the interaction of this printer with all the devices on the network.

A USB connected printer sharing can be done, but it's a lot more work that the printer is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable.

It's really a lot more work to set up the printer with a printer shared over a network connection USB method true when it comes to do this with Windows 7.

Windows XP made it incredibly simple, but he was not very secure on a network.  With Windows XP, all you had to do was to share the printer, and then install it on another computer.

With Windows 7 on both computers, you must configure a homegroup, enable file sharing and printers (disabled by default), share the printer and install the printer on the computer client / remote.  In addition, this method will require the host to be on anytime for remote printing machines.

The printer is connected to the router with a Ethernet means that the functionality of the printer depends solely on the router being on (most are on 24/7).  Computers will print regardless of the other computer either on or off.  There should be a shorter time in the impression that a computer is responsible for printing rather than two computers.

Again, I will be more than happy to help you set up with the method USB shared with two Windows 7 computers if that's what you want.  You find that it is much easier to use the Ethernet connected method to be simpler and more efficient to print well.

If you want, here's a little more information from Microsoft on sharing a printer between two units of Windows 7.

    Setting up a homegroup

Activate the file & printer sharingand sharing the printer on a Windows 7 computer

As long as the printer & file sharing is enabled and two Windows 7 computers are in the same group of residential, you should be able to use the USB share method.  Without these two two options being Setup, it simply does not work with two Windows 7 systems.

  • Adding a second laptop to the wireless to work

I have a laptop is currently working with the MRT54G Version 2 router.  It works very well.  Now my neighbor wants to connect to my network, but after the connection with the networkkey it cannot connect.  He says he has "little or no connection.  I also read somewhere that it has to do with the IP not being renewed.  What needs to be done in order to make it work?  I hope what I've written makes sence.  I apologize for my ignorance when it comes to computer terminology.  Help, please.  Thank you.

If your other computer is not able to go online wireless and you get an error "Limited or no connectivity" message, this indicates that the security key you typed when connecting to your wireless network is Incorrect... Make sure that the security key that you used to connect to your wireless network is the same key that you set your router...

If you are unsure of your security key, then you must connect to your configuration page of the router from your work computer and find the security key...

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...

    Click on the Wireless tab

Click the sub-tab under wireless > Wireless Security... In this window, you will find your security key... Note your security key... and use this security key to connect to your wireless network... Once connected to your wireless network, you should be able to go online wireless on your computer.

  • WRT110 will connect everything except wireless laptop XP

I have a WRT110 Rangeplus Wireless Router.  It connects 3 desktops (XP and VISTA) and a printer via 4 plugged the ethernet cables.  It connects (VISTA) Compaq laptop, a computer eMachines laptop (Vista), a Wii and 2 Tivos with wireless.  This is the 4 wireless Wi-wired connections and 5 that work perfectly.  My laptop Compaq V2030US XP (which worked well with my three-year old wireless network) connects very well with a cable, but wireless it will only connect to the router.  It will ping the router correctly, but do not connect to the rest of my network, internet or ping any place beyond the router.  I have disabled the firewall on the laptop, reset the cable modem, reset the router, all other wireless devices disconnected, updated the firmware on the router, and have the latest software and drivers for the card Intel Proset 2200BG wireless.  Any suggestions before I try another router manufacturer?

After a few hours more work, I discovered that my Intel Pro Wireless adapter tries to connect to my network at 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.1.  I have therefore added the correct IP address to my properties and VOILA! It's trendy!

    Hello!

I bought a laptop HP 15-AC144ND. Now, this laptop came shipped with the Realtek RTL8188EE Wireless, which does not meet my needs (No. 5 Ghz or Bluetooth). So, I read in the service manual (LINK), there is compatibility with the Intel 3165 AC module. Someone did he do this upgrade? Can someone confirm me that the machine will work with this module without giving me a BIOS error?

  • Adding printers Wireless Solution Center

I am running Win7 and after restarting my wireless network, wireless (Photosmart C7250 Photosmart Premium C410a) printers have been added in windows using the window adds a printer.  Now, the HP Solution Center does not see wireless printers.  Is there an easy way to add them to the center of solution since they are on the network (with a different IPv4 address of initial installation)?

Look in your Start menu all programs for the HP folder with printer software. You should see an option "add a printer". To avoid this problem in the future I would set a static ip address for the printer.
