  My Dell Studio 1737 was upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate in November last year. I have no problems apart from a few minor problems with the DVD player. Last night, ran Windows update and 4 updates before you shut down correctly installed. This morning, I rebooted and the message - operating system not found. I can't access the hard drives or DVD to try a reinstall. By pressing the F8 function key just the fact of restart. Any ideas on how to recover the system would be greatly received.

  Are you able to start on the CMOS screen (Dell)?  I think you press F2 during the Dell splash screen.  If you are able to boot to CMOS it recognize your HD?  You have a Windows 7 DVD?  If so check that the DVD player is set as the first boot device, and then try to boot from it.
  If you are not able to access CMOS or the DVD is set as the first boot device and won't start him, then you need to contact Dell, because it can be a hardware\BIOS problem.

  I recently tried Win 8 on my VAIO laptop spare parts on which I ran Vista, after having previously deleted all the files and documents (I don't use often the laptop). Having concluded that Win8 will really work correctly with a touch screen (and the display size was bad as well), I uninstalled WIN 8, understand that I have to re - install Vista from my rescue disks. This I tried successfully a few months previously to make a clean reinstall. However, after removing 8 WIN via the Control Panel, I can't re - install Vista now.   Well I finally fixed it by tweaking the BOOT BIOS settings and find something along the lines of VAIO Setup. I'm afraid, I just don't remember exactly what I did, but suddenly I found and ran 'VAIO Hardware Diagnostics' gave me a heart when it announced "no error was detected on the Vaio. Then I saw there was an entry for 'VAIO Recovery Utility - Recovery Wizard' and everything started to load. Since the 2 recovery discs I had. Finally, I ran MS Office and Small Business CD-ROM and now everything is back the way that it used to be. Here I had taken more note of how I got to the well Recovery Wizard. I hope that I never have to do it again!

  It's all part of this card reader controller stuff.

  I suggest that you do a right click on any card reader devices and select uninstall.

  If there is a check box to uninstall the driver, these boxes too.

  Restart the PC and if the drivers do not correctly install, download and reinstall the card reader driver.

  I tried to create a dual-boot system, and it failed. So, I ordered the hp recovery DVD and recovered my system windows 8. I had created a system image recovery composed of 6 DVDs. I tried to insert both the last drive of the game according to the instructions and even tried the first disk without success.

I have read that the system image is saved as files dvx and have read that are stored in the format: drive letter: \WindowsImageBackup\computer nameYYYY-MM-DD HHMMSS \Backup, but have not found these on my box dvd of restoration image I created.

  I understand that you have difficulties when you try to create a system dual boot, and it failed.  You ordered a set of recovery disc to return your laptop to factory.  You thought it was a recovery image and a difficulty to do the recovery and now realize they are recovery disks and not an image.
