BitLocker: decryption of a reader of my dead laptop

My laptop does not light, but my hard disk is not bad. I need to get data out of it, so I can send the laptop in for repair. The data are encrypted with Bitlocker.

I borrowed a friend with Vista Home Premium laptop. I can't get the Bitlocker repair tool to run on its system.

How can I get the data decrypted and transferred to an external drive?

BitLocker only comes with Vista Ultimate (and maybe Vista Enterprise but certainly not on Home Premium).  To read and transfer data, you must use another computer with Vista Ultimate (and of course the appropriate passwords and keys - or however you set up).  This might help: http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-vista-tips/how-to-recover-data-that-is-encrypted-by-bitlocker-part-iv/.

You can also use the Bitlocker repair tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928201.  I am not sure about it as I've never used it before, but the article is Microsoft and the situation seems to be who you are, so it should be applicable.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Drive for bitlocker decryption error

    Hello

I have a 2 to USB 3.0 external HARD drive Verbatim.
It has been encrypted by using bitlocker in win7 64 bit.
I wanted to transfer files from a XP computer which means that I had to disable bitlocker XP otherwise would not access the hard disk.
And I went in the direction of disabled bitlocker bitlocker. At the time I didn't know there was a method "suspend quick" which is actually what I wanted to do like bitlocker would reverse once done transfer to XP-win7.
About 49% of bitlocker decrypt the drive, an error message occurred:
"An error occrurred. This disk has one or more errors. run "chkdsk/r". If these errors persist... »
I was so angry because I thought he had ruined my drive with all my imprtant files. Fortunealy the drive still works and I can access the files.
However, the problem is that the decryption process remains paused and doesn't go away. I can no longer decrypt/encrypt the drive. It opens as if not encrypted in win7, but XP is my only opiotn to format.
What should I do to get the reader to a State where it can be encrypted by bitlocker and then suspended for access to XP without damaging the files?

PS Microsoft should not ship software that isn't an undo feature.

    Hello SimonBYA,

Thanks for the return of the response.  Below, I have included a link from the Microsoft TechNet site, discussing the BitLocker Repair tool.  If you scroll down on the Web page a user specifies BitLocker is suspended.

Is there a way to copy the drivers and setup of the drive from the computer and transfer them to the reader of the dead computer?

    Hello

You cannot copy the drivers installed anyway.

    Saving your files:

You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.

I got a mini iPad 2 32 GB as a gift to replace a dead laptop but I'm not at all familiar with the product. Can I create and save word documents a presentations on a flashdrive off iPad mini?

You can create word documents and powerpoint presentations, but you cannot save them directly on a normal USB.

Microsoft made a version of office for iPad, you can find it in the App Store. Here is a link:

    Word

    PowerPoint

There are usb drives that work with iPads, and you can save documents to those who use their own applications.

  • I can't recover my gmail on my desktop, if I already read it on my laptop.

We have three e-mail - an AT & T and two gmail accounts. I read the email on all three accounts using Thunderbird on our laptop when we travel and our office when we are at home. When we returned from a trip and I turn on the desktop and it's Thunderbird, all my messages on the AT & T account gets downloaded but none of the mail on a gmail account is downloaded. This means that I have to run two computers at home if I want to deal with past and current email.

  • Often fingerprint reader stops working after laptop wakes from sleep (Pavilion dv6)

I am convinced that the fingerprint reader is fine. There must be a problem with the driver may, something inconsistent with a recent update of the Windows 7 software?

    The scenario:

    • Laptop works very well.  I put on standby when I'm done and use the mousepad to wake him up.  LED fingerprint reader blinks, and I can drag my finger to log on.
    • At one point, after a few times to put the laptop to sleep and wake, the fingerprint reader does not.  No flashing.  I slide my finger and the player does not respond at all - is not yet tell me that there was a bad reading.
    • If I login and log back in again, no change. However, if I do a reboot, everything is fine - the fingerprint reader works again.

I watched over and over again for new drivers and installed.  Nothing seems to affect this scenario.   Unfortunately, this has started to happen about 9 months ago () and because of the sporadic nature of it, I was not attentive enough to know the 'precise' point in time when it started happening.  My instincts tell me that there was some sort of update software/driver along the way which is originally the fingerprint reader not do not work right.  I hope HP continues a relationship with these companies to fingerprint reader and can transmit these questions so that we can do a software update.  But... I don't know if it has been abandoned.  My laptop is still under warranty, but it would be ridiculous to send in just this problem.

I hope that someone has heard of this on the dv6 and may know a solution.  Thank you!

My system is a HP dv6-6145dx.  I am running Windows 7, with the latest updates.  The integrated fingerprint reader works on HP Simple pass 2011 v5.1 and Validity Sensor driver 4.3.205.0 version.  When I try to launch the Simple passage interface, it loads the database, but then the application disappears.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall the software, but makes no difference with the issue, I noted.

"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more opportunities."

No problem, I am completely I shouldn't bother with Pass Simple version 8.  I advanced and installed version 6.  I did not yet get no joy, so I did a little more digging and found one more late Validity Sensor driver, version 4.3.304 (not noted in the list of update driver for my laptop model).  IT WORKED.  I can now go into hibernation and the fingerprint reader remains functional when the system is out of hibernation.  Previously, it was pretty much guaranteed became disabled.  So... it looks that my problem is now solved.

  • dead laptop

last week, my laptop (hp g60-530us) started suspended during the shutdown, I have to press the power button for more than 5 seconds to stop completely.   I didn't think much, I patched ubuntu earlier for a similar problem, so I thought that an update would fix it.

but then today it does nothing.

I can have it plugged to the wall, with the battery removed, push the power button - nothing.    just nothing.

    power supply?

Remove the hard drive and see if it will boot to the BIOS. If so, the culprit may be just a dead hdd causing the problem from the start fail. This would require a stroke of luck.

Try a hard reset, works sometimes. Disconnect all external devices first.

battery and power cord 1 / removal

2 - Press the power button for 30 seconds

3 reinstall only the power cord for the first start.

  • G61-406SA: dead laptop data recovery

My portable fuel not up - quite dead.  I tried the Hard Reset, but that has no effect.  I suspect that it's cheaper to replace that repair, but I would at least get the data on the hard drive.   (The spec says it's a 250 GB SATA hard drive).

Yes, I normally have a backup plan, but I didn't do it while I was traveling so I lost 2 weeks of work.  I have 2 questions:

    1. is there a way to check if the HD is still OK?  I can't find instructions on how to even find and even less to remove it.

    2. If I peut to work, what have people found is the best way to retrieve the data?  Data recovery services charge an arm and a leg, so I prefer to do it myself if possible.

    Hello

If it is a mechanical problem with the drive, you can sometimes have a 'window' where she will be exploited before freezing (you can get an indication if the player starts to get hot very quickly), but it is worth considering if you are unable to get all the data at once: I recently pulled data on a HARD drive where the player would only run for 10 minutes at a time that was almost as exciting as watching paint dry!

    Kind regards

  • The CD/DVD drive reads not my HP laptop.

My problem: I'm trying to upgrade to 64-bit on a laptop Windows 7 32-bit of Windows Vista; However, the CD/DVD drive cannot be read in my computer or Device Manager.

I already tried application Fix - It Microsoft, but to no avail.

I am not confident in working with the registry files, but if there is a simple and straightforward process to follow, I can handle.

    Help, please!

    Hello

Follow these steps to remove corruption and missing/damaged file system repair or replacement.

Start - type in the search box - find command top - RIGHT CLICK – RUN AS ADMIN

    Then run checkdisk (chkdsk).

How to run check disk in Windows 7
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

    ==========================================================

    After the foregoing:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Do step 2, you would need to know the registry entries to try then to ask the system and
Manufacturers of devices as well as checking with the Mycelial forums. Of course, check for the firm - update
Ware. If you can find reliable registry entries to try and need, we can help automate that
process once the information is known.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

  • Battery goes dead laptop leaves to clean reboot

Yesssirreeeee! I use Vista Home Premium on a laptop Toshiba P200. Before yesterday, when the battery went completely dead, I could plug in and press the switch - and the machine would start me back where I was before with all my running programs.

Suddenly and without warning, now if the battery dead past and plugging in AC, the machine will start up just for Windows with all this not recorded at all.

Can someone point me for me what I would do so if the battery is dead, and to power once again, my laptop will bring me up to where I was before. Help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Looks like your battery is gradually degrading / failing to the point where it cannot declare reliable details about the support available in Windows.  Of course, a new battery should solve the problem.  If you want to continue with the current farm, you do not want to set a higher value for the warning events and critics associated with limited autonomy.  See this for more details:

If the Medion no will power, you can test the drive with the disk manufacturer utility.

If the Medion does not supply power to the top, the only way is to remove the disc, put it in an envelope and see if it works.

If it's an old record, you will probably need a powered external envelope. Older readers need too to work a single USB connection.

  • Fingerprint reader not recognized on laptop Pavilion dv4t-1400

In this last week, my fingerprint reader is no longer running on my laptop Pavilion dv4t-1400. I think that he stopped when last week he had two usb problems which are still pending - that is to say, under Device Manager, there are two USB keys with a yellow warning triangle and after trying to help out, he said: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) ».

I reinstalled the Validity Sensor software several times, but it does make a difference.

BTW, to the best of my knowledge, there had not been any new software updates before the USB errors.

This problem is solved when I turned off my laptop, unplugged the adapter and all external connections, removed the battery, expected a minute, resinserted the battery and restarted my PC.

Validity Sensor driver has been added automatically by Windows, and my fingerprint reader is now recognized and working.
