Black screen appears whenever I start the laptop.

Last week whenever I start up my Dell laptop computer, a black screen appears. I asked someone who knew with PC and he thought that it a defective power adapter. I tried to use it on just battery, no luck. At out the battery and the adapter just tried, without success. Adapter again sold, but I will assume that the adapter is not the issue.

Sometimes it lights for a few seconds, but the black screen appears quickly before you can do something like get online.

I held a flashlight the monitor and the screen is almost pure... If you look closely enough. Windows has loaded and you can see the wallpaper.

Does anyone has any idea what caused this and how to fix it. The laptop has been barely used... perhaps 6 months at the most.

Not sure if related but all updates are underway, antirvirus installed and running whenever the PC starts. Malware program executes and returns its own.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if it's something I can fix myself.

Thank you

Could be that the backlight of the lcd screen has failed. LCDs are sandwiches, with layer lcd sitting in front of a layer of back light. As you can see the Windows desktop without distinction when you look closely, the lcd layer seems to work like the graphics of the pc. Is the pc still under warranty - if so, take it back to the supplier.

  • Start-up problems: I have a black screen when I log in the menu

    When I start my computer, I get a black screen when I log in the menu. I can still access the computer on safe mode, but I can't find a solution. Antivirus Avira found no detection, so I don't think that's associated virus.

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
  • How can I disable the 'Open with' window that appears whenever I start?
    My desktop pc using Windows 7 Home Premium. For years, I want to start with nothing default opening. Each time, the choice of what to open were made manually by me.
    For some reason that I don't understand, one day after start-up, this 'Open with' window appears. Under "Choose the program you want to use to open this file," the indicated file was my name. (I replaced the one here with the word "Me.")
    I never asked this window will open after startup. It appeared for the first time without having done me anything. I do not think that I have all the files with my first name only, so I closed the window and ignored.
    But the window open whenever I start. Don't need or want to be, I keep closing and ignore him.
    Soon, not one, but two of the pop-up appeared. Then THREE.
    For several years, the three windows double as above appeared whenever I start.
    Don't know how or why it began. Don't know which program is causing it. Don't know how to stop it.
    Anyone recognize this window? Do you know which program is causing it to appear after startup? Do you know how to disable? Is there a trick to disable three of them?
    (1) is the window 'Open with' above now a default pop-up window after startup that cannot be disabled without the registry editor?
    No, the "open with" isn't a local default value.  You see it because something - probably malware - tried to configure your computer to start a process at startup time.  Windows, however, does not recognize the name of the process (i.e. the file name) as an executable program so it asks you to specify which program to use to open the file.
    No, you don't need to manually edit the registry to resolve this problem.
    (2) there is no program in Control Panel I can open that has a simple toggle to turn it on or off?
    No, there is no program in Control Panel you can use to solve this problem.
    Here's how fix you the problem.
    A. the easy way (doesn't unless you are very lucky)
    • Click the start ORB, all programs and then scroll down until you find "Startup" and click on it.
    • If you see that anything that gets filed that you do not want to start when you log on to "Start", right click and delete.
    • If you do not know what the items listed and are reluctant to delete something you don't understand not (a very good policy to follow), list all the elements in your next reply and someone here will try to advise you.
    B. the way a little harder (that almost always works)
    • Download here Autoruns.zip (this course is that you download from a Microsoft web site)--> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
    • Right-click on the downloaded file and select "extract all".
    • Go to the folder where the extracted files are located (this should have been opened for you by default), and then double-click on autoruns.exe
    • Wait until the program has finished scanning (look at the bottom left corner) and then select the 'connection '.
    • Look in the column titled 'Image path' for a line that includes whatever it is that appeared as the 'file' in the original pop-up window.
    • If you find a line with the same name in there, uncheck the box at the left end of the line, close Autoruns and restart your computer.
      • If the ToolTip no longer displayed, you can (a) do nothing do or Autoruns (b) re - run, find the line you're not controlled and right click > delete it.
    • If you cannot find a line with the name you're looking for...
      • Click on the "all" tab
      • Click file, and then click search, then enter the name and click "next".
        1. If a line is found, right click and select 'copy '.
        2. Paste the line in your next reply here
        3. Press F3 to find the next instance and repeat steps 1 and 2 until no more bodies are found (if there are several rows, you can open a Notepad window and paste the lines temporarily here)
        4. If you are reluctant to publish anything with your name in it, change the lines to replace your name
  • Blue Screen stop Codes, failed to start the laptop at all the
    I have an Inspiron running XP Media Center edition.  Something strange happened last night where the power was interrupted during the closing down and the laptop has become something weird Media Center Genuine Advantage. I don't know what it was, I was half asleep at the time.
    In any case, this morning, I can't start the laptop.  It brings me to a screen where I have the option of waiting for Windows to start, start Windows normally or start in safe mode.  None of these work.  They bring me straight to a blue screen with stop code: 0 x 00000024.  Then, in parentheses, there these: 0 x 00190203, Ox8651F288, 0xC000102, 0 x 000000000.
    I searched a bit, and seems the only solution that I found the recovery utility, but I have a few questions about it.  One, I lose my data? Two, it says it's for advanced users, and I'm not an advanced user.  I'll be able to use it?  Three, you need a CD of the OS to run it, and I don't have a CD when I bought my Dell laptop.  I don't think I even offered to pay extra to get a copy (it was awhile I bought it).  Can I get a CD of the OS through Dell?  I know that you can burn a backup copy of Windows, but I only learned after the beginning of this problem.
    Any other maybe solutions?  Thank you.
  • Black screen on startup instead of the splash screen
    Sometimes it shows a black screen instead of the start screen and I have to restart my laptop using ctrl + alt + delete.
    This happens at every start, but sometimes it takes a little more time to the log on screen (which shows the name and photo of the user) and a black screen appears with no option, same shortcut as windows, windows + D, windows + I, windows + C etc works on this screen. What conclusion I came up with, it is "there is no other choice, rather than using ctrl + alt + del-> restart" and then it works normally.
    am using alt + ctrl + del options to lock, ease of access, etc. Task Manager & the option to as well as I use to start my laptop and it starts normally.
    Then, the most likely scenario is that explorer.exe crushed and for some reason any decided not to try to recover.   Use the Task Manager to test this idea.   For example to enter his Details tab and see if explorer.exe is there, if not, you can use the TM file, run command... to try to run again.   You can also start some diagnostic programs such as trying to get a glimpse on why explorer.exe does not display you its screen start Event Viewer.   As I mentioned a likely explanation for this would be on the bad monitor but then I expect not allow you to see the Ctrl-Alt-Delete menu, no more.  The usability of this scenario is quite wrong and the user should understand the opportunity that can use the keyboard cannot be seen without doing something to change it.
    Hello
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 PSLB8E. I initially bought with Windows Vista already installed on it. After a few years, I changed the operating system Windows 7 Ultimate. I installed the display and all the other necessary drivers (that is, sound, network, etc.).
Sometimes, in less than 10 minutes and other times that it can work perfectly for hours. I checked for loose batteries and other components, but everything seems fine.
    Physical damage only that there is a tiny crack on the screen in the bottom right of the screen. The operating system is not good? If I put windows Vista back as it was?
    What you can try is to use the external monitor for a while and see if everything works well. If so, there is no problem with the operating system, drivers or graphics card. It may be that the display problem.
