• Dual LUN T60p w/ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 gets BSOD code recovery mode standby/hib 0x7F(0xd,0x0,0x0,0x0)

  I recently added a monitor to my T60p.  The video is an ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 with 512 MB of video RAM.  With ATI and the original BIOS drivers, there is a refresh very noticeable flicker tear occurring on the external monitor.  I tried to update the video using the ATI drivers, but it was a no-go (he pointed out that no supported device has been found, and indeed the V5250 is not a standard ATI offering).  I downloaded and installed the video driver ATI at 2008-01-31 listed in the downloads and drivers for the Lenovo T60p, and the problem remains.  Then I downloaded and installed the latest version of the BIOS (v1.14 - 7IET33WW) and recovered the stability of the display.  Other components of the system have also been updated: Reader, display HotKey, Powermanager of fingerprints.

  The next and current obstacle became the system to resume from standby or Hibernate mode (which we used to do without any problem).  If I put the PC to sleep or into hibernation after the desktop on the external monitor display, it will BlueScreen during reboot while resting on the login screen (or when connecting if I don't wait for the system to 'solve').  If I do not extend to the desktop, it seems to take OK (I didn't of extensive testing).  When the system is restarted, the error report that is sent to Microsoft would get a response indicating an incomplete/invalid dump and no help on the error.

  I reapplied (not uninstall) drivers ATI, thinking that he can use new behavior of BIOS to correct itself.  Minidumps are apparently now complete (since the Microsoft error report accepts them at least), but there is no indication in the discharge report, and they continue to occur.  He's still 0x7F (0xd, 0 x 0, 0 x 0, x 0).

  I have 26 minidumps.  WinDbg can read them and reports of 0x1000007f (like 0xd, 0, 0, 0) in at offset 102550 ati2mtag.sys (probably hex) and the offending statement a bugcheck was:

  movzx eax, byte ptr fs: [h 51]

  Anyone can shed some light on this?  I have not uninstalled/reinstalled drivers ATI because I don't want to take the risk of completely paralysing the PC.

  The problem has been corrected (!), so I'll mark this as resolved issue.  I now inoperative Center control Catalyst (CCC), but I think it's a relatively minor issue that I can deal with later.

  There are several learning along the way to share with all those who are interested:

  -After this experience, I would consider v8.442 FireGL video driver as it is less stable than the Version 8.383.1.1.3 (for XP) mode dual monitor and does not recommend its use.  If you do not upgrade to it, be prepared to restore.

  -Old drivers can be found on www.opendrivers.com, but are also available via ftp from the IBM web site.  I found it quite by chance.  The v8.383.1.1.3 driver is ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/79d165ww.exe.

  -If, like me, you may not use rollback and must install a driver more old an new, know that the old version of the CCC will not install.  You need to uninstall the newer version first.  Otherwise, you will remain with a version of CCC who (apparently) does not work.

  I tried many things (drivers update, windows update, tests of software malware and many more), but nothing really continuous working. Sometimes the disturbance disappeared for a few hours just return again. When I started a game, the laptop crashed immediately. So I suspected a lack of memory.

  I did a witch proven my computers memory memtest work perfectly and during a hardware test my hard drive seemed to work too - but I'm no expert in this. When I did a full test material (with a trial version of EVEREST) the tool always crushing when the test reaches OpenGL. I disabled my video card and the test passed. After that I could use my laptop regularly... but without a video card.

  Yesterday, everything has worked perfectly - there was no accident and no disturbance of the display. When I tried to stop the computer, I noticed, that windows wanted to install a new update for ATI Radeon Mobility 4650 (which was in fact very old). It happened several times in the last days and never did something good.

  And of course it would reactivate the dev video. So I tried to prevent it to disable the updates.
  But it does not work. Installed the WIndows update and it came to pass that he should be: that day crashed my computer, when I started it and since this time, the disruption of the display again. And this time it seems to stay... disabling the card does not help this time.

  I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have an idea?
  I suspect a problem with the drivers. But I can't install the drivers with the official Catalyst software.
  I have my Toshiba laptop for summer 2010 and never had any problems like that.

  From my point of few graphics card is the troublemaker.
  The atikmdag.sys file that occurs in the BSOD message, belongs to the ATI driver.
  I don t think that the graphics card driver might cause this problem. If GPU driver problem, new installation or update should fix the problems. But it seems that helps too.

  This is why I think the GPU chip is malfunctioning.

  By the way: you should not send an email to Toshiba, but contact the Toshiba authorized Service Provider (ASP) in your country. Service guys are usually the first point of contact in the event of hardware problems.

• Blue boxes and Bluescreens when you feed up to Satellite Pro P100-438

  I own a Pro Satellite P-100-438 (PSPAHE - 001001GR). Yesterday, I tried to start a game, and shortly after, he froze, showed strange bluish rectangles and then a screen blue, followed by a reset.

  Then the screen was full of blue shaded boxes in the nature of a grid as a layer of perfect finish. Even the start screen "Toshiba - contact tomorrow" has this box-grid layer.
  From the login screen Vistas should appear, there is an another bluescreen: 0 x 00000050 Page Fault In Non-Paged area.

  Now, I can only start the computer in safe mode.

  I tried to restore the last configuration of windows work but that did not help. I tried to remove the display so drivers and fiddled with the parameter of startup in msconfig and at one point, I was actually able to get Vista running as usual without the blue boxes, but after awhile, I got another blue screen and since then, they have remained.

  last night I checked if the problem might be related to overheating. But now I think that's not the problem. I removed some dust, but it wasn't really much. Accidents still happen.

  Regarding the graphics bugs: this is the kind of a grid of blue boxes. But this isn't a perfect grid. Only a grid on the screen. I have a photo I will upload tomorrow. When I move the windows under the grate, it stays in place. Everything as it was somehow in the surface of the screen.

  Maybe if the graphics card is broken? It is not the RAM. I removed one at a time, and it is not related to it.

  Somehow check whether the graphics card? It's a Geforce Go 7900 GS.

  The laptop is a Satellite Pro P100-438 (PSPAHE - 001001GR).

  If I bought a replacement graphics card, might be able to buy a better? They're much cheaper than three years ago. Or which would mean too much consumption and amount of heat energy?

  Anyway, the BSOD could be caused by serious software or hardware problem.
  Each tool/software pre-installed could cause a BSOD
  I think that you should first check if the BSOD happen using the computer with the new OS preinstalled.
  If the BSOD happen again, then you should check the RAM modules.
