Cannot access the Microsoft Updates Web pages

using XP Home Edition on a laptop. Victim of a crisis (virus/trojan/worm - don't know what) in the new year, she launched the system restore and all of the restored data.  Downloaded AVG to analyse the system, checked MS Security Center and I saw it worked not - says, he had been arrested.  Much research for corrections, tried several of them, including uninstall AVG and other scanners, antivirus, installation SP 3 and MS Security Essentials and all other MS security downloads I could find.  Still no access pages of MS update, always "THIS webpage IS NOT AVAILABLE".  Also downloaded mpam - fe.exe and MPAs - fe.exe but does not - get access denied when select current to run user.  How can I get updates MS if I can't access Web pages?  I don't know what updates I've missed.

Mosty likely, the computer can be infected by ROOTKITS.

Try TDSSKILLER to find rootkits.

    Hello

You try to go actually on here Windows Updates site?

    http://www.update.Microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

This site does not work for Vista. You must use the Windows built-in to Vista updates or download them
sites I posted for you last time.

Absolutely do not use the default Administrator account. Just make a new Admin account to
use and leave the other to test and difficulty. In fact, make an Admin NOW account to use to test and fix
According to the needs. If your sole administrator corrupts you will have a big headache.

For what it's worth, I go to the Microsoft site & downloaded IE 8 & installed, as my first troubleshooting, before you come on this forum.  Theoretically, I should be as up-to-date as I can be with XP Pro SP3 & IE8, but I wanted to see that everything had been downloaded.  Well, I can't this info now.

I wanted to see which updates had been installed & when I clicked on the link for Windows Update, said the "Welcome to microsoft update" page, below the message to install the activex control required to view the Web site... fthere is no popup message any that I can right click on to install an activex control.

I googled similar questions on this forum & tried a similar question MrFixIt & who has not resolved the problem I encounter.

IE8 is NOT my default browser, or generally leave automatic updates 'ON' unless I'm updating.

I try to keep my current computer with the Windows updates on a monthly basis, I have to use IE8 for a couple of Web sites.  My current default browser is Dragon of Comodo.

Your input & feedback & suggestions are appreciated!  Thank you all in advance.

«Click Start ---> 'run'---> and in the dialog box, type "inetcpl.cpl" without the quotes and click on ' OK'.» Click on the "Security tab"--"custom level button" and scroll down to the box "Download signed activex controls" and select ""prompt(recommended"). Click ok and exit. This should activate the InfoBar at the top of the screen, when you visit windows update to download the activex.

    Good luck.
