Cannot access Volume control in WinXP on Satellite Pro U400
Hello
I have a new U400 with Windows XP (SP3)
today when it was lit, once the connection it comes up with an error
"Cannot not be able to control the Volume.
I tried to reinstall the audio drivers etc...
Any idea?
Thank you
Can you please check if the sound card device is correctly identified in Device Manager?
He worked previously with SP3 or has occurred just after its installation, because I read that there could be problems with the sound and the SP3.

Massage "cannot Access Volume Control!" on my Satellite L20
I have this strange problem on my laptop Satellite L20-100 with Windows XP Pro pre-installed.
When I turned on the laptop this morning I got this massage WARNIG: "Can t Access Volume Control!", then I noticed that the (Windows) Volume control icon does not appear in the system tray of taskbar.Generally, the sound works under Windows. When I go to control panel-> sounds and devices Audio-> Volume V is marked near the "place volume icon taskbar", I tried to deselect and score again. It still does not appear, if I can change the volume here (Panel-> Sound) and Audio-> Volume devices and it works, but when I try to change it with Fn + up/down the whole bar is red because he does not see the sound card or something.
I tried to reinstall the audio driver, nothing happens.
This actually happened before, the first time that reinstalling Windows helped, I think.
Anyone have any idea what should I do? Thanks in advance...If this problem occurred suddenly have you tried to roll back OS to an earlier time using System Restore tool?

Oh I forgot to tell my computer toshiba laptop satellite pro u400
It came with windows vista preinstalledHello
I think it is just a software problem (Boot Manager).
Try to repair the operating system by using HARD disk recovery;
Press F8 why portable power.
Then choose fix my computer, then choose disk HARD recovery. If this is not possible, order the disk recovery from here:
http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspxThen, you will be able to reinstall the OS using the recovery disk

Satellite Pro U400 - cannot install VAP on Vista 64-bit
Hello
Since I bought 4GB of RAM for my Satellite Pro U400 PSU45E, I installed vista Business 64-bit, with all drivers and bios 64 bit found on the toshiba site.
easy, with the exception of the "value added package 1.1.19", whenever I try to install I get: error "failure of GetProfString."I installed every driver and utility for 64-bit, but still the same...
Everyone has experienced with this?Without VAP, I can't use the Toshiba power saver, worst profiles I can't go back because I did a new install and deleted the recovery partition!
Please, someone help!Hello
VAP contains all the modules necessary and you n t need to install other tools in order to install VAP
I think that it s a Vista may issue you should do a clean install, then you must update the Vista for the last State.
After have installed all the patches Vista, try to install VAP and other tools.Good bye

Satellite Pro U400 - sound of the wheel does not work anymore
The wheel of sound control in my Satellite Pro U400 works not properly since last month.
Now, I have to use the volume bar in Vista to adjust properly. When I try to lower the volume by turning the wheel, as I did before, he constantly increases the volume after reducing to a few percent. If I flip it is very very slow, sometimes it decreases the volume a little, but other times it increases. Also when I'm in a word processor, turn the wheel to the right input 'c' character ' on the screen.
There is no problem when I try to increase the volume, it does its job.Do you think it is related to hardware or can it be a problem of driver or something. Is there a solution?
Thank you

Satellite Pro U400-130 - Conexant and 'Stereo Mix' in question
Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 (downgraded from Vista to XP) with the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 "audio card" installed.
Although this seems to support HD audio, I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows console. I tried a few settings to registry and some different drivers, but so far, the option remained absent.
I know this forum and other comments on the net that Conexant audio cards do not support the stereo mix, but I was wondering if someone could confirm that this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?
Similarly, anyone know of another method to record the sound 'as heard' on the computer? So Far, the options appear to be a) buy an external sound card, or b) connect the plug headphone mini-jack on the mic with a cable jack.
After using a p3500 old Portege of 8 quite happy with this function (actually pretty basic), it is very disappointing to find that this card cannot support it.
See you soon,.
Select this option.> I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows mixer
> I know this forum and other reviews on the net that the Conexant sound cards may not support stereo > Mix, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?I can confirm this because I have a laptop (NOT from Toshiba one) that was equipped with the Conexant audio chip and the other laptop (Toshiba Satellite a series has) that supports the Realtek audio chip.
The machine with Realtek audio chip contains stereo mix and the other non-Toshiba unit that supports the audio chip Conexant does not support the stereo mix
As far as I know the update of the driver won't help you because it looks like a hardware limitation of chip Conexant!
However, thanks for the info about the Virtual Audio Cable tool.
I think I'll try it next time -
Fingerprinting is on Satellite Pro U400-160 - specified database not found
Hello
Well, I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400. The first day, I took my fingerprints, and all went well.
The next day, the software reinstalled himself for some reason any... and lost of my fingerprints.
So I went back to the software TrueSuite Access manager, but this time I had a problem!' *' Error: specified database could not be found ' n ' exact error message no, something similar.*
I got this message, so I looked in this forum. I discovered that I could reinstall the software, so I did and got the last update, but it's the same thing.
I don't know what to do, I just installed Office 2007 since I was the computer, nothing else.
Help, please!
Thank you very muchYou take the recovery disc and reinstall the OS using the Toshiba disc.
The laptop must be set to the factory settings/configuration and then you should check if the same error message again. -
Satellite Pro U400: How to remove folder HDD Recovery Vista running Win 8
Hello!
I have updated my Windows Vista to Windows 8 via the Microsoft upgrade offer. Toshiba does not support the upgrade of the Satellite PRO U400 of Win8, but it works so far, only a few features are missing...
In this HARD drive recovery process, Vista folder remained on my partition E: (containing about 5 GB of files dated 2008...).
I HAVE (even 2 sets of) recovery DVD for Vista.
The infrastructure of original HDDRecory for Vista on the laptop ran defective, already long ago for some reason any. There is therefore no reason to keep the old HDD Recory on E: folder.
It is completely unnecessary and I would like to remove this folder without formatting E:.
However, although I work with admin rights, this is strictly rejected by the system of Windows 8.Is there any idea how to get the access rights to delete the HDDRecory folder?
Best regards and thanks for the help!
GernotSo far I didn't test these actions, but if you have administrative rights, maybe it's possible to delete certain partition and without changing the ability to create a new.
Try to do this, use the option of disk management in computer management.Of course before trying to do this backup all other important data stored on that partition.
Please let me know if it will work.
