  • Automatic update does not

I have some problems with my computer. In the last months, I had to run Malwarebytes as there was a large number of viruses on my computer. I use AVG and Windows Security Center.

Since the first major attack of virus, my Security Center tells me that my firewall and automatic updates are disabled. I continue to turn on the firewall, but it turns off after that I have turn the computer back on, and I also tried to turn on the automatic updates. When I went to the tab, I saw that he was already, but I don't get updates.

I went to the Microsoft site, but I was told that if I wanted to download anything whatsoever from the Download Center I have to use Internet Explorer (generally, I use Firefox), so I just downloaded the new IE8. However, the page is blank... even Google will not open. He says that the internet is not connected - which obviously is that Firefox still works!

Any help is greatly appreciated... but take it easy on me, I don't understand all this!

    Thanks :)

Seeing that your system has been compromised by "a large number of virus", the only methods to ensure that there is no hidden malware present so that you can trust your system would be to:

    (1) create a rescue CD that the system can be started with so that the hard disk is idle.

    Kaspersky Rescue CD
    BitDefender Rescue CD

    (2) save all your personal data and program installation files, or application. Then gave and installation of the files scanned by a malware online scanner or downloaded to ensure that nothing has been compromised.

Then, format and reinstall Windows XP.

Otherwise your system probably all your keystrokes, passwords and financial information sent to the web servers of cyber criminals or it part of a botnet.

  • Cannot connect to internet after auto update under Vista.

Original title: System shows the connection, but cannot connect

After an automatic update in Vista in mid-August I can no longer connect to the internet.  My system tray shows that I am connected but I can't.  I'm on a DSL wireless connection with a desktop computer (one does not) and a laptop with XP that always works very well.  I re - configure the modem, uninstalled, and reinstalled the wireless card, has run an anti-virus in safemode, uninstalled the Qwest connection network and re-installed AND uninstalled the update to Vista.  I even tried the system restore to an earlier time.  Nothing.  Internet diagnosis says that it cannot solve the problem.  I have read other forums on the UN-checing proxy settings but mine have not been verified.  I re-set my settings IE8 by default.  Uninstall protection against viruses... What did I miss?

  • file loss or damage after running automatic updates, cannot run windows without having to re - install

I am currently running Windows vista 64-bit, but I'm unable to allow automatic updates to run because it results in loss/damage/corruption of files.
It will install everything as usual and reboot the computer, but instead of windows startup, it reports that windows cannot open because there is a missing or damaged file. The pc is not repairable by placing it in a previous restore point or using the at startup repair shop and I find myself having to reinstall VISTA to get the pc working again. Accordingly, Iam unable to install service packs for Vista or other updates to the system because I don't want to reinstall my computer is there a patch or fix for this error?

    J0seph1ne,
If you have a question whenever you install an update with the loss of corruption\file then it is possible that you have a problem with your hard drive or with and infection.  You can try the tools\links below.  I suggest you then install just a few updates both to seek only possible that poses a problem.

    Hi Cécile khan,.

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: I suggest you consult the site mentioned below:

Temporary connection related errors may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update

     http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941.

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. Method 2: Manually install updates

Step 1: Steps to find the update does not install

    a. click Start, click all programsand then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

    b. click view update history. A window opens that displays all the updates that are installed and those who have not installed properly on the computer.

    c. in the status column, find the update which do not install and then click on the red X.

Step 2: Manually download and install the update using the link below:
