Cannot increase the resolution of the screen after Windows 7 updates

Hey guys,.

I recently did a Windows Update on my Win7 laptop and the resolution has been reduced from 1280 to 1026. So now, I have a screen size of 1024 and a black band on the right side of my screen. Essentially, I can't adjust or wear a size of 1280. Everyone knows that lately after the updates. This happened to me around the last week of April. I tried to do a system restore on it which works very well and it brings back to the full screen resolution, but once I restart the laptop he then it narrows down to 1024 on restart. It's as if the part of the screen becomes invalid.

Hi Jesse,.

I hear your frustration. It is a driver problem. So, lets get set for that (I hope, your BIOS is OK). What is happening is that your system resets with the incorrect driver. What you need to do is to 'disable' (not uninstall) the driver of 'bad' and use only the correct driver. That you should be able to do it via the Device Manager.

Try this approach and see how you rate. Once you can get the 'good' driver to work properly, then and only then we will get rid of the 'bad' driver (uninstall).

Kind regards

  • Cannot adjust the brightness after display driver update on Satellite L855-118

    Hello.

I just bought a SATELLITE L855-118, with ATI graphics card today, it was between this and another of them, but I know that you have problems updating graphics drivers on a portable Sony.

    I did a restore point.

So I uninstalled the ATI catalyst graphics card and then did a sweeper driver and rebooted and then installed catalyst 12.6, installed fine, but my screen went to the maximum brightness and I can't adjust, BRIGHTNESS osd is displayed but the brightness of the screen does not change.

So I used my restore point.

This time I crushed the catalyst 8.9 with 12.6 stock, still cannot adjust the brightness.

Someone knows how to solve this problem.

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.

    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.

My thoughts are that it is a driver problem. Try to update your drivers, and then stop the updated driver in Windows Updates.

    -----------------------------------------

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - note the brand and complete model of your
video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this
cannot do anything as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party with their
own the software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restoration) and then of the manufacturer of the device
(Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for the BIOS, Chipset and software)
updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - tab drivers version you install actually shows up. This
because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a
pilot - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW on device at the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - manually check by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver in the Windows updates,
This leaves ONE of Windows updates, but it will not install the drivers who are generally older and cause

    manually if you wish.

  • Unrecoverable blank screen after Windows 10 update - Inspiron N50500

Inspiron N5050, launched in January 2013.

Updated recently for Windows 10 without incident. The laptop worked well for several weeks. It is only after the updates started coming my problems began.

After each of the first two updates and customary restarts, the screen would go blank. There he remained for two or three days until that for some unknown reason, the office became visible again. Basically, all I did was start it, leave it on for a few hours and restart again. I repeated this process over and over again for a few days. I also consulted a number of forums online Meanwhile, tried some of the suggestions offered without result. Basically, everything seemed to go down to this boot, wait, re - start process again. This makes little sense to me, but something caused the screen become operational. .. There are nearly ten days until this last update.

As you can imagine, when Windows told me that the next update would be applied at the next restart, I saw it with concern and discontent. And this time it didn't come back.

With the exception of the white screen, the computer seems completely functional. The screen is not completely black, but appears to be backlit. There is a noticeable glow emanating from it. I am able to enter my password at the right time and he will finish the boot process.  I can't see anything on the screen.

Today, I inserted the recovery disc I made when I turned on the computer the first time only whether end with the following runtime error:

    "Program: X:\windows\system32\RESTORE7.exe.
This application has requested the execution to terminate in an unusual way. For more information, contact the application support team"

    Restore7.exe Application error
The exception unknown software exception (0 x 40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x4011398e
Click OK to terminate the program

Usually, I try to do all the right things, but it is doubtful that Microsoft or Dell will have any interest in solving my little dinky problem. So, I hope some of you can offer some suggestions. I'm pretty dead on the water and ideas.

douglasgrubbs, I hope you can see, because it seems that I might have found a solution.

I found an old monitor in the confines of my attic, hooked up to the laptop and booted up. Alto! I had a visible desktop. After a time, a message popped up indicating the need for a reboot. Not a cold, hard starting. A REBOOT! There are 10 Windows updates that should be installed, and they could only be installed on a restart. (This is the part I'm missing because I couldn't see it on a blank screen).

I clicked on "Restart now" on the message and let it go. (It took a bit of time to install updates)

Douglas, if you see, find and connect an external monitor and all updates waiting for you. This has been the problem all along.
