Original title: cannot print in black

I cannot print black on my printer.  I changed printers, ink cartridges and tried printing in different programs such as Word, wordpad and Excel.  Other black print colors just not.  Can someone tell me what is the problem?

When you installed the printer cartridge, did you remove the protective sticker on the cartridge? Sometimes people forget to remove this and install the cartridge.

You can also run the troubleshooting of the printer.

    Open the printer Troubleshooter

Open the printer Troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooting, and then click Troubleshooting. Under hardware and sound, click on use printer.

  • Newly installed cartridges are not printing black or yellow.

I have a Photosmart C4280, which has recently been opened and installed for the first time. All was still in the original packaging. The print cartridges had never opened up when I installed them, but they do not seem to be printing black or yellow.

It doesn't seem to be an error message associated with the problem. It happens every time I try to print the allignment installation page, or through the printer utility test pages. However, the printer does not think that something is wrong. It's playback of almost full for all cartridges ink levels.

The printer is connected to a computer running OS x 10.6.8. I have updated the printer drivers using this linkto the HP Web site.

The printer has this problem when plugged on a powerstrip and when plugged into a wall outlet.

This should not be a problem of USB, because the USB cord that I use is brand new, I bought it from Office Max a week ago.

I tried "resetting" the printer by unplugging the power cord and by plugging it in 30 seconds later. It makes not a difference.

    Thank you for you attention.

A form of cleaning utility is fine and accomplishes the same thing would be this from the control panel of the printer.   If the cartridges are dried out it is not a way to get back them. I would go buy a new black cartridge and three colors for this computer.

  • Cannot print out of yellow ink

I am only the yellow ink and cannot print.  I have change to black with print on computer, but pop up options comes on off printer ink yellow mention.  How can I change the settings so I do not use color cartridges at all.  I have all in one, HP officejet pro 8500.

    posterchild says:

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7555 with a similar problem, only it still says: I'm yellow ink after replaced without a cartridge HP yellow/black.  It won't let me scan or not while it is not yellow.

Black/Yellow printheads were replaced, it sounds like you had a low yellow cartridge that has been emptied by the maintenance required for a new printhead.  You will need to replace the power supply in yellow ink as shown here.

  • Printer cannot print black ink

We have HP Photosmart B110 series - just moved pc and printer from one room to the other and when he came again to print the printer does not print black ink.  The cartridges are fairly new, and we did not use a printer, so I don't know that the black ink is not low at all, and the pc shows only a fraction of the black ink used.  The pc and the printer are not defects, it prints fine in other colors.  Went to the diagnosis of HP's utility and the printer came with all green ticks, but the test page printed came in white.

Cannot make the step "Uninstall" I have lost the cd to reinstall the software.

Baffled.  Can someone help me please?

I watched several blogs on the site of HP, which concerned problems similar to mine.  I have combined several approaches and now have a printer that works properly.  I removed the print head and it soaked for three cycles of 5 minutes in distilled water (~ 170) about 3/4 inch deep with continuous slight stirring.  First soaking quickly became the black water, the second ended with the water a dark gray color, but the third rinse was almost obvious.  Hot distilled water dissolve the ink dried in the passages of the small ink contained in the part of ejection of ink from the print head cartridges.  I then carefully dried the print head as instructed, clean the electrical contacts on the printer and placed the print head and ink cartridges in the printer.  I turned off the printer, then unplugged it for a minute.  I have the plugged in and turned on, allowing it to print an alignment sheet.  Because the water remained in the corridors of the ink, the sheet had empty spaces, but a sheet of test house which has small samples of many points of color and the words in the color of each word was then printed with very good results.  The printer has now worked perfectly for a week.

  • HP all-in-one 8620: HP all in a single 8620 - will not print black because yellow ink so you are done?

    What nonsense, the here!

my printer refuses to print black and white, pages saying that the yellow ink is finished?

only if I buy a wet ink yellow it will print.

Isn't this black mail? What does take to print?

I did print it in black, etc, but still it prints no and gives a banner saying yellow ink purchase

The standard yellow ink is available from HP here.  You can also consider the Multipack colourful three - if yellow is probably exhausted the other colors are not far behind.

With regard to the requirement to have the ink color when you want to only print in black.

HP and other printer manufacturers have technology another printer for different needs.  For ink jet printers:

    • Some have integrated into the ink cartridges print heads.  These printers can print generally with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black cartridges (but not both) removed. Deskjet 6980 series is an example, or for an all-in-one, see the 8040 a Officejet.
    • Other printers have separate replaceable printheads and inks.  An example would be the printer Officejet Pro 8620.  In these printers print head can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors off.  Some of these printers allow printing with a color, the other will not.  If the printer is run without ink in one or several colours, the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send the printer for the service by replacing the (expensive) print head.
    • Other printers have permanent print heads.  To run only those without little ink in all colours would risk causing damage to the print head because of clogs, air ingested in the printhead or grilled printhead resistances of shooting. The Officejet 6700 is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed print heads that could require the service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.

The document described here how the ink is used.  The document is written for inkjet printers HP the same principles apply to printers inkjet from other manufacturers.

If you are ever printing a monochrome laser printer in color would probably be a better choice.  If you occasionally print color but especially black a HPI printer as those in the first category above can be a good choice.

  • Printer cannot print black

    Original title: device

I have a printer HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Saturday night I rearranged my office furniture, but do not unplug the printer from the tower. However, my printer will not print black but it will print all other colors. When I push the button "setup" on the printer and #1 Help Menu it tells me that the device is not connected to the computer. How can I solve this problem? The black ink cartridge is full, is not ink.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C309: printer cannot print black ink (it's a new cartridge).

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me troubleshoot my printer.

yesterday, I installed a brand new authentic ink cartridge of HP for printer HP C309 photosmart premium.

The ink level for black on the printer is full, my other levels of color ink is low, but that should not affect something because I never print in black and white for the documents from the school.

I tried to print black-and-white documents and the printer is fading the black in and out and sometimes not black at all, despite the fact that I have installed a new black ink cartridge.

    I tried:

    (1) align the printer cartridges through the tool on printer settings (this alignment failed 2 times, always without success)

    (2) cleaning of the print head through tool on printer settings (tried this 3 times and still no improvement)

    Any other suggestions?

    Hi @plutolover2011

I want to help you to be able to print again. I understand your color cartridges work, but it's not black ink.  Please start with the procedure described in the following document; Printer prints a blank Page or does not print black or color ink for HP Photosmart Premium C309a the C309c all-in-One

If you have performed all the steps in the document above and the problem persists, not one of HPs, my personal recommendation is to use the solution put forward in the next video.  I suggest that if the printhead and the printer he are out of warranty.  Hot water rinse printhead - HP ink printers of the series with removable head.

I have recommended this solution to others and have been successful, but I can't guarantee that this will solve the problem, it is a term of type line of effort. I hope it helps.

  • Photosmart b109n cannot print in color black

I have a Photosmart b109n. I tried to print a bunch of images and half of the images was good, but the other half was very strange. As you know a printer when it prints a picture, it makes all the colours of yellow, magenta and cyan, even in the dark. My printer can print colors perfectly but cannot print black parts on the image. It's a gray a little something. Here's an example of what it's like (the grey parts had to be black):

My mystery is now solved. My statement was false, that the printer uses the black cartridge when it is printing photos. So the real problem was that the black ink cartridge.
