CD/DVD Rom drive reads the DVD as blank disc?

Looked for information on the subject the whole place and it feels like I'm the only one who has this problem.

The CD/DVD-Rom drive in my HP laptop is not reading the data on my DVD or CD I DVD that have been burned on a computer and some other that I burned on this drive. Data on them that I've used them in the past and without any problem. I changed nothing on my computer since the last time I used them I can think of and I have all the latest software updates for Vista and HP.

Now when I put in drive it takes about a minute and then gets up and tells me that the disc is empty, but I know it's NOT like I've used it before and I see on the underside of the drive it was burned.

Is this a problem of software or a hardware problem or disk I have not tried a lot of things that just the standard checks to try to get the drive to run but without success. For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Phil.

Hello PhilStokes,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Sorry, you have a problem with this issue.  I would first go to Device Manager to verify that all drivers are up-to-date.

Go to start-> Type ' Device Manager "" in the search field-> select Device Manager '->, select here (+) for the CD/DVD - rom-> This will fall to the bottom of your device-> next right-click on the device and select update. "

If not chance or driver is already updated, return to Device Manager and right click on your device and select uninstall.  You may be prompted to restart, anyway go back to Device Manager and right click again and select install or update.

Please let us know status.  Thank you! Engineer James Microsoft Support answers visit our Microsoft answers feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

  • DVD/CD rom drive reads CDs but does not read the DVD.

My Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop has a DVD/CD rom drive.  It loads all the CD I want and them automatically opens on the D drive.  When I put in a DVD movie it will not play.  I open my computer, and then look at the D drive, and it does not even recognize that there is a DVD inside but it shows a screen of a CD that I put in there.  This tells me that it works and it has a green light on the side which shows.  Also, when I insert the DVD it makes sounds as it tries to recognize, but then it stops and does not appear.  Can anyone help?  I really appreciate it.  I'm not very savvy computer.  I know that some in this topic because I am a teacher and try to catch up with things, but I'm certainly no computer technology.  Thank you very much!  Let me know if I need to give more info.  I think the reader is Sony CRX835EK but I'm not 100% sure on this one here.

If your Player reads cd but not dvd which indicates that the material works very well. You need to change the registry inorder to solve this problem.

    1) click on the start menu
    2) click on 'run '.
    (3) type "regedit" and click ok
    4) go to the key of the string "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
    (5) delete "upper filters" and "lower in the right window.
    (6) right click on my computer in the start menu.
    7) click on properties
    8) go to the Hardware tab
    9) click on Device Manager
    (10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
    (11) made a right click the dvd rom and click on uninstall
    (12) restart the computer

After the reboot, windows should automatically install a ROM clean disc and read DVDs very well if you have the correctDVDdecoders

  • Satellite M35x-s349 - DVD-ROM drive read not

    I have a Satellite M35x-s349. I got it around late 2004.

He has had this problem for a few months and I had submitted to not being able to read or write cd / dvd because I couldn't find my recovery disks. When the computer was planted I renewed my efforts, found, restored with the help of an external HD enclosure, backed up and restored my computer. It was working fine. I burned the CD and watched movies without problems for a few months.

He has now stopped read any kind of cd yet. I put the small drive flashes next to my cursor. I hear movement inside (ROAR and the eye moving) but after about 20 seconds, he gave up and claims that there is no disc in the drive. I don't want to have to do a system restore, but I can't even read the restore disk to reinstall the driver. Are there any ideas on why this happens if not all the solutions? Any way to reinstall the driver online? I am a user of level intermediary model so I can understand most tech jargon you throw my way. I can usually solve my own problems, but this one seems hopeless.

    Any help is very appreciated.

  • Cannot read the OS DVD, but can read the Diag CD sata disc?

    Greetings,

Laptop is the famous brick of overheating creatively titled DV6416CA.

I had to format the new hard drive after the original hard drive fried. (HP says too bad with that in short).

It now sports a WD3200BVET which is sata 5400 320gigs. I had installed Windows 7 during about 6 months now.

It was great. Life was good. I was happy. My daughter, wife and mother-in-law all used to watch movies online.

Then they got a virus that has rendered useless map of wireless network and in the end, I was told by 2 different specialists to give up and reinstall. So I said OK. I'll reinstall with the same dvd that I used last time. But it was not to be.

Somehow, I can read the diag cd I have but when I insert a dvd of Vista (a real one) it will not read it. He tries, but giving up at the end I tried the DVD (the original one) and also one dvd of Windows 7 on 2 other workstation without problem.

Therefore, I can not install the OS from scratch on this laptop using the DVD player.

The BIOS is also sport all options, for example, the IDE compatibility or such.

Just the phone does not have a DVD OS...

    Thanks for the help

How is used to emulate a CD-ROM drive, to mount a Win7 ISO, VMware Player installation

Read page 77, 78 configuration DVD, CD-ROM and readers of diskette to see how to connect an ISO Image.

The ISO is already defined with an Autounattend.xml file.

for other things like VMware Player trying to make are not necessary.

and do an actual facility in one of my partitions of HARD drive?

    Read the Documentation!

If I understand you correctly and you want to install a physical disk partition and not a virtual hard drive, then after initially creating the VM void then the change settings by deleting the existing virtual hard drive and add a hard drive by selecting "Use a disk (for advanced users)", which BTW I don't consider you one since to couldn't understand it yourself.  That said, what's not in the documentation is that if your host operating system is Windows 7 and Windows 8, you won't be able to use a physical partition that is located on the same drive, the host operating system is probably installed.  It must be one disk/partition physical separate other then what Windows 7 is installed on.  (That's assuming you are starting Windows 7/8).

    Hello

What exactly do you mean? Is the drive does not support content or there is problem if you want to burn data on DVD-R media?

Can you please explain this a little more carefully?

Just FYI: I use the empty media TDK almost 5 years and I can say that TDK is very good for this kind of things.

I checked there is enough space on the disk, and I also tried copying from disk to my office, same question.

I tried using the command line to move the file and get an "Access denied" error message, which I believe is the root cause as to why I can't move the file in the first place.

  • Identify the system drive on the computer laptop double disc

I have a laptop HP Pavilion HDX9000T CTO that has two hard drives installed.  The current disks are 120 GB and I intend to replace the drive system with a 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM.

Is there an easy way to physically identify which of the two drives is the system (C) drive?  (In other words, when the laptop is turned over and the cover of the hard drive is removed which is which?)

In addition, this laptop works with a 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM?

    Thank you

    Here's the training manual:

    Manual drive

Look at page 9. The player to the right is the system drive and the left one is the storage.

A disk 500 GB 2.5 inch width 9.5 mm thick SATA 7200 RPM works perfectly. You might want to consider one of the new hybrid disks. The critics are raving about their speed.
