Change WEP to WPA2?

Hi, is anyway that I could change my password from WEP to WPA2 security wireless routers without resetting? Basically I want an easy way to change the type of my router security. I have a 2.4 G wireless router model, thank you.

Yes, just log into the account Admin and (withou knowing what model you have) with the security settings, select WPA2 and set your password (or password) and save the settings.

The router does not reset your other settings, it will probably be restart.

One thing, change the router first, and then your PC (or other device).

  • WRT54G2v1 - can't change from WEP to WPA2-Personal or Devil WPS

Hello.  I have a router WRT54G2v1.  I set up WEP with a couple of years.  However, I want to go with WPA2-Personal for greater security.  I tried to change the WEP setting by choosing WPA2 I want in the drop-down list existing wireless > Wireless Security in the router configuration window accessed via my browser.  Immediately after that, I get the following message appears with the options "OK" and "Cancel".  The message is this:

It will stop WPS WI - FI protected setup is not compatible WEP/WPA/WPAZ-company/Radius

If I say 'OK', I do not then get to select something from the menu drop down.  I find myself immediately with the message each time.

If I go into the basic settings and attempt to adjust the configuration wireless on "Manual" of the current value of "Wi - Fi Protected Setup", I get the following message (with the same options as above).  The selection of "Manual" returns immediately at the same time, thus denying me to change the setting.

Wi - Fi Protected Setup does not support WEP/WPA/WPA2-Enterprise/RADIUS. Please use WPA/WPA2-Personal.

So, I seem to be able to change the setting to WPA2 in WEP (or change to disabling WPS also).  Any thoughts on what is happening?  TIA.

Hi brianborutoo. Perform a factory reset by pressing the reset button on your router for 30 seconds. Be sure to saw this power will blink to make sure that the reset was successful.  After that, powercycle your router for a minute. Try if it works. You try to browse another or another computer for insulation.

Hello all - I installed my wireless security to WEP to WPA2, and I can't print on it.

I tramped through the wireless configuration the 7525 and the Setup seems to have worked.

I printed out the results of the wireless network Test and everything's fine, no errors on the print.

Can I print using the USB cable.

I'm not sure it's material, but I also started to use OpenDNS and made this change at the same time.  I don't think it would make a difference, but I am mentioning just in case.

Unfortunately I can't print wireless, I received the error message "cannot communicate".

    Thank you.

Not a matter of WPA2.  DNS?  Go back into the router and reset it on your default values supplied by your ISP.

  • How to change the encryption type M252dw printer WPA2 (WPA - PSK) for the WPA used by the router?

We had to change the type of encryption on our WPA2 WiFi router (LAN setup origin, on which to install and successfully used our M252dw printer) and use simple WPA, to solve some other problems of connectivity.

NOW, the HP printer, we have (M252dw) apparently does not automatically reset the encryption type.

Apparently, he has no way to automatically start "from scratch" when connecting to the new configuration of router.

Even with ALL the rest on the LAN works fine and speaking well, including WiFi laptops and smart phones, the HP printer sees the new name of WiFi SSD connects to the router in order to attempt a connection, accepts the new password WPA, but RETAINS THE WPA - PSK PARAMETER OF CONFIGURATION PREVIOUS.

We know, because after that the printer fails to connect, print the network SHOWS Test report this known problem in the paragraph of the resolution of the problems, but worthless advice said to "run the setup of wireless network for re - enter your network WPA wireless security password. The WPA authentication on your HP printer has been changed from the default setting. This can cause problems connecting to your wireless network, if your wireless router does not use the same breed of WPA authentication.

    Well, DUH.

Mind you, there is NOTHING in the post above that says:
    1) go to "this" menu item.

    2) click "this" option to change the encryption method.

    (3) select the method (SSID, WEP, WPA, WPA2) that corresponds to your router.

... because... There seems to be NO option ANYWHERE in ANY menu that offers this choice.

HE DIDN'T THERE HAS NO BUTTON, OPTION, SELECTION, OR ADVICE IN THE MANUAL TO RESET OR CHOOSE WPA!

There is a checklist wonderfully unnecessary, repeated throughout your manuals and on the site, basically saying

' Check the type of printer encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.) corresponds to the router.

Well well... What do you do when you KNOW that it IS NOT?

Thanks to try at least, I appreciate it.

    Unfortunately, it did not work;

but it leads to find the answer for later use.

    Summary -

    After selecting
Printer flow treatment and deleted the saved connection data, an IPv4, subnet mask and default gateway address (router address IPv4) and IPv6 turned power on.

    Then... I did this:

    (1) Went back to and IPv6 turned to back, leaving only ON IPv4.

    2) went back to and returned once again the preferred settings.
    Address: 192.168.254.250

    Mask: 255.255.255.0

    Default gateway: 192.168.254.254

    3) reinforced by the "Wizard" where he immediately found the SSID of the wireless router.

    (4) select the SSID of the router

    (5) when it is asked for the password (which is actually just a 'word' with WPA pass) I got that.

    (6) given the printer attempts to connect and failed.

WPA - PSK same listed, even noted on the test report from network once more.

Therefore, no chance after Restore Defaults.

It really would have been nice if HP had made sure this option actually actually reset * ALL * default settings, including the wiping WPA2 security type.

(Just for reference, the DHCP range is set to 192.168.254.15 - 192.168.254.47, so that the fixed IP addresses assigned, like this printer, you can assign DHCP to be defined to ensure no changes outside.

This printer is the FIRST device assigned a fixed IP address, to make sure that nothing else can come into conflict with the IP address and eliminate it as a cause as possible.)

OK - so after your suggestion, I am inspired to re - enter the menu and look at it again.

I had already looked through what I have and not able to find the submenu I thought that has been included by HP...

.. .or I would expect a user was manually choose method/type of security encryption (SSID, WEP, WPA, WPA2)

.. .or at least handed to "REMOVE/RESET/nothing: Please ask the next router you are trying to connect to use"

One thing I found there is the option that resembled what I wanted now:

That seemed to be the best thing after trying to 'Network Defaults' so I did.

Then did a not through all the steps above, 1-6...

    * SUCCESS *.

ALSO: The printer is already running on each PC had to be "retired" in Windows

    -According to the right

    -Then follow up

-Waited for printer not found, click it, and then select

Thank you HP - I just needed to find out who Reset was correct.

Now - I humbly suggest stating that in the manual.

Under the line "Verify encryption type corresponds to router", you could add something simple like:

"IF it isn't, then select and your printer will automatically ask the next router you are trying to connect with and correspond to this type of encryption."

    Hello

I have a Netgear FVG318 router with the new firmware and problems to connect using WPA-/ WPA2-PSK with Realtek RTL8187B integrated.

With the help of WEP that works. I did a complete restore of Vista and installed SP1 + all Windows updates. No change...

Then I tried using a Netgear USB WLAN Stick WPN111--> the same result, works only WEP.
I rechecked the shared key before!
After that I tried with a HP laptop, wonder... everything works! WEP, WPA / WPA2-PSK works! What do you mean?
I think that there is a software problem in Toshiba-Vista version.

Do you have any idea? The support has not helped me.

    Hello

What you need to do is first of all update the WLan driver and if possible, you should check if the latest BIOS is installed too.
I had similar problem on my A210 and all first I've updated the BIOS, then driver WLan.

This helped to establish the WiFi connection.

The problem occurs when you perform a Wizard for easy transfer to a computer that was Symantec Endpoint Protection installed to one without him.

    Answer, copypasted:

Inspect the key mentioned above - that is of HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\RasMan\PPP\EAP.

In each of the number keys look something like ConfigPathBackup and its corresponding ConfigPath - there are a number of them.

For each, I deleted the original key (e.g., ConfigPath) and restored the original by renaming ConfigPathBackup to ConfigPath

For each of them, the State is now restored to her pre State Symantec - each key pointed to a Symantec location that is no longer present and by restoring the path key backs up everything was fine

  • C4380: C4380

My C4380 printer was working fine on my wifi.

I was forced to a breach of the HW to switch networks - and I cannot now connect the printer WiFi, only by USB to my desktop, which means that no one else on my network can see.

I searched the web for an answer - no joy. A lot of the multiplicity of HP web pages claim to know of the to do, but none of the work for me. Anyone know?

Thanks for getting back to me @GP2014,

When you set up the printer on the network, make sure that you connect to the main network.

I have provided some information that I hope are useful to get the printer on the network.
Make sure that there is no space or special characters in the name of the network, the printer can not recognize it.
The printer is able to send/receive in the 2.4 GHZ band.
If the router is configured for 5 GHZ network, you may need to change to 2.4 GHZ. (rename the 5 GHZ or turn it off)
The WPA key setting must be on AES to work properly not TKIP.
    Multi flow must be enabled.
Firewall on the router must have ports open for the printer.
If you have Mac filtering give you printer hardware to meet the needs of the Configuration page.

You may need to contact your router company to get help to check these settings and configure routers.

Make sure that Safari is set as default browser. (sometimes the SAP will not open if it is not set by default)

Open Safari, at the top, select the Safari menu, select Preferences, general, as a default value.

You check the encryption: password find your wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 (Mac).

    Hope that helps. Thank you!

How does a "change the Protocol from the router to WPA Wireless?  That sounds like it would be worth trying...

    HA

There are many different routers wireless worldwide, each using different menus and methods to change the encryption.  You must search for the 'Wireless' setting in the router, can find the control area "encryption".  This is where you choose WEP/WPA/WPA2 and the different "flavors" of each.

Given that the TX is a device only / b, you must be sure that your router is configured to be retro-compatible speeds/b.  If nec ' / g-only ' or ' / g and/n ' it will not communicate to the TX.

I'll send a link to the ESU you via the private Message system that we have here on the Forum.  It's a shame that HP didn't post the return to download file...

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L500D-163 (with card wireless 802.11 b/g/n)
Router: Pirelli Discus (having support 802.11 b/g).

    Hello

I bought a portable Toshiba, Satellite L500D-163, two days ago.

Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux 10.04, the Wireless does not work. It shows all the available wireless network neighborhood, including mine, but it connects to my network.

I also have an Acer laptop that connects to my network wireless without problem.

I placed the Toshiba laptop side by side with my Acer laptop and tried all the options:
    802 11b, 802.11 g - WEP, WPA, WPA2
with simple passwords of the style: "00000000".

and SSID wireless to the router changed something as simple as "abcde".
Computer Acer laptop connected without problem in all cases, but Toshiba didn't connect.

In Windows 7, the connection information appears as connected but 'Limited' and the software Toshiba says that the laptop is not getting an IP address.

I manually entered the IP address (192.168.1.2), subnet mask (255.255.255.0) and the default gateway (192.168.1.1 router =) below the configuration in Windows 7 wireless card, but it did not work.

The laptop must support Toshiba, or y at - it an incompatibility with my router?

    Thank you.

    Great! Thanks for that!

I have problems with my router and a remote technician for Verizon FIOS updated firmware, solve my problem of the internet, but now my printer is not working.  When I try to print from my macbook pro (OSX Lion 10.7.5) it is said that the printer is idle.  When I try to print from my ipod and the iphone, it is said that it prints, but then nothing happens.

I was able to set up direct wireless to print, but I don't want to go into the settings and change networks whenever I need to print.

I tried to turn off the router unplug the printer and turn it back on.

I checked to make sure that the WEP code and network name are correct.

    What can I do else?

I appreciate really all the efforts that you and other posters are on this issue, but I feel that I will not find a solution.  Maybe a new router?

It is a long shot. But since we are short of ideas, please try to change the configuration of the router from WEP to WPA2 and try again to establish the connection. Because WEP is very old standard, some routers may have a few inherited defects that were never resolved.

Well... This opens a huge can of worms, it leads eventually to a solution.  I changed the security settings and when I presented to them, 'wait while we apply the settings' screen appeared and never went away.  The timer kept spinning and this went on for over an hour.  Neither the old or new passwords worked and I completely lost my internet connection.  I called Verizon and ordered a new router and said the technician on the line of my being stuck in limbo. After a few basic tests (unplug and pluggng again) she transferred me to someone in the advanced group.  To make a long story short, he traced the fault not the router, but the optical network outside my home box.  It reset, reset the router (losing the new security settings and everything else) but my internet is back, and fortunately, so is my printer.  I'll live with that until the arrival of my new router state-of-the-art.

Thanks for the suggestion, it was a frustrating experience, it finally lead me to a printer to work! I doubt that I would come to this point another way.
