Compatibility with video cards with an old PC

Hello, just a quick question. I looked through my old Compaq CQ5110F PC Windows Vista for a while now and I have a few quiestions.

1.) can I put food to maybe a range of 600 Watt? If so, can I have a link to a good quality diet?

2.) I also looked in a new graphics card. I was wondering if this graphics card would be repair / and or be compatible with this PC? http://www.Amazon.com/XFX-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-FX775AZNP4-FX-775A-ZNP4/DP/B007Z3T5JC

(3.) I have a new Windows 8 with a 1 TB hard drive, maybe I can do that one replace the 320 gb hard drive in it?

Now I know that Compaq is not in the ideal age, I mean its a 09 model, so if I can't put the graphics card, I had in mind, I would like to do the best I can, if you get where im at right now.

Thanks, and I appreciate any info anyone can provide!

Hi HammerKnee,

Your motherboard has the nforce 430 chipset, The latest drivers released is for windows Vista, But as i found Windows 8 should have the correct drivers compatibility preinstalled and support your motherboard chipest, so there should be no problem install it on your computer, you can find the information on the next link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Type=Hardware&Name=NVIDIA+GeForce+6150se+nForce+430+Motherboard&ModelOrVersion=&Vendor=NVIDIA&Locale=&LastSearchTerm=&BreadcrumbPath=&TempOsid=Windows+8

On the RAM, the motherboard has 2 slots for RAM and DDR2 support on these speeds:

The ONLY way (even with the Compatibility Center) to make sure a video card is actually compatible and supported by its manufacturer is to check with the video card manufacturer themselves.

    Hi empony,

When you are working on your computer and install a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Now, you're left with a partly installed program. You try to install the program again, but you're unsuccessful. Or, maybe you have problems trying to remove an old program because the installation files are damaged.

Download and install the Windows Cleanup utility to uninstall the game completely from the computer, and then start with a new facility.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301

Once done with the uninstallation, you can install the game in Compatibility Mode and check if it works very well.

Access the link below to install the game in Compatibility Mode.

Also, make sure that you temporarily disable any Antivirus software on the computer.

Make sure that you enable the security software after the attempt.

  • Windows 7 compatibility with an old photo aio 922 printer printer

Hey, just bought a new laptop with windows 7 installed and I have problems with the use of my old Dell photo AIO printer 922. I did a little research into it without success I might add. Dell support service is practically nonexistent. Anway, I think I need to install a driver for my old printer compatible with the new windows operating system.

I went to the Dell Web support and found that the only drivers they have on this printer are Windows Vista and XP.

In short, I would like to know if Dell will be unploading a new driver that will make this printer compatible with Windows 7, or if there is already a driver for windows 7 or if Dell will publish a new driver for windows 7.

If this is not the case, my options will be dark, and I'll be forced to buy a new printer.

Look forward to hearing back someone who has any suggestions.

    Phil

    Hey Rick,.

    Bravo for this buddy.

I followed the instructions you have suggested and found that they worked at a T.

But just a note to someone who has a similar problem in the future. After you download the driver from Dell, you will need the disk that you used to install the printer in the first place. Also, I found that it was better to download the 64-bit of Windows Vista installation.

I don't know if my comments will be of no help to people with a similar problem.

Once again, thank you Rick for advice.

  • Compatibility with the Presario SR1318NX video cards

Hello all, recently I've been looking for a graphics card for my pc which is a Presario SR1318NX and I was wondering if this map is compatible:

    256-P1-N400-LR of EVGA GeForce 6200 256 MB GDDR2 64-bit PCI video card

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814130466

Also I'm using Windows Xp home edition 32-bit

Here is the link to the product specifications:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00280721

If this video card is not compatible is that all you can recommend to me preferably 512 MB but 256 MB will be also fine.

The EVGA 256-P1-N400-LR GeForce 6200 256 MB GDDR2 64 - bit PCI video card looks like it is compatible with your system. The map is several generations old and Newegg has newer versions of PCI video cards. It depends on what you do.

  • Compatibility with video cards

    Hello

I am trying to add a new MSI video card to my Envy H8-1414 office. It's the map:

    http://us.msi.com/product/VGA/N660_Gaming_2GD5OC.html#overview

When I add the map with the OEM PSU, I get 6 long beeps. I added a block of POWER W 550 and the beeps go, but I have no video. I contacted MSI and they say that power is sufficient, but I need to check with HP to ensure that the BIOS can support the map. I checked the HP support site and I see no BIOS updates for this machine.

The card is PCI Express x 16 3.0 and 2.0 just says HP motherboard so I wonder if it is simply not compatible.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

Temoporarily remove the new video card. Connect your display to the video embedded right on the port at the back of the PC.

Enter the BIOS and go to the Security tab click on secure boot configuration.

The next screen will resemble the following image. Press the F10 key to commit the change

Verify that secure boot is set to disable. Press the F10 key. Exit the BIOS. Shut down the PC and install the new video card. Plug the connector of display on the appropriate video output port. Turn on your PC

  • video hangs with the new card in an old Slimline s3500t

Hello! I have a slimline pc t3500 and changed a noisy gs9500 for an asus fanless hd 5450. now I can't watch the flash and all of my video players fall opening any avi or other video format. But it's awful quiet. Any suggestions? How can I update, because the correct video card driver is already installed. Thank you very much. Oh, and I am runnig Vista home 64 bit everything to date. What is my power 180 watt? Otherwise, the pc works fine and graphics show without aberrations.

Ububoy, I hear what you say.  However, if the 9500 GS came with the computer it was probably manufactured according to the specifications of HP to use less energy.  This is how HP makes video cards work, that the manufacturer States use more power, in their computers.  The HD 5450 is even more power than some of the PSU design can handle.  You can try to unplug all unnecessary components (CD player, USB components, etc) to see if that helps.

I had the above problem with AOEII:Age of the Kings. My brief spec is Windows 7 Ultimate edition (SP1) and a card nVidia 8600 GT. I did the following (make sure you reboot after each installation):

Make sure that you are running the latest patch of AOEII:AOK (2. 0 a):

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=35

Download and install the latest version of DirectX:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=5264

Download and install the latest nVidia Driver suite. I left the autodetect my card software and reset all my default settings. I also installed the full software suite:

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Finally, right click on the shortcut of AOE and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the following:

-Run this program in compatibility mode - choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (!) NOT 3!)
    -Disable visual themes
-Disable the Composition of the Bureau
-Run this program as an administrator

One of the above options maybe work on its own, but that's what I had to do to make it work and I tested it after each step.

    Good luck!

  • Compatibility issues with the old game - UbiSoft 'Adventures' happy Laura

Any old hardware and compatibility mode experts out there?

My daughter loved this UbiSoft program when she was little, she would like to try again for reasons of nostalgia, so I made my Christmas project to try to get it going again for her.

She seems to have very specific graphic requirements.

CD box says "Pentium 200 or faster Windows 95/98/ME ' and ' any 4MB compatible Direct 3D graphics" (* but see below for details)

I tried on a laptop 8 win in Windows 95 and Windows 98 compatibility modes and it installs and runs the game, in fact but with display serious corruption - mobile figures produce black spots on static backgrounds and quick movement scenes produce large areas of black. I tried to set all the graphics options that I don't see in the game Installer so the PC itself, but there is no change.

I have some old hardware PC lying around, so I tried first on a Windows XP faithful (Pentium 4 and NVIDIA GForce 6200 graphic) machine and the installation program is running - but not the game itself with joy

I tried to run a virtual machine of MS on this PC to emulate Win98, but it seems to imitate the graphics card - so no joy

Then I tried an AMD Semplon 3100 with VIA / S3G Unichrome PRO IGP graphics. I put in a new hard drive and put a new installation of Windows 98SP2 on it and the installer works (he asked me to reinstall Direct X - what I did with v9c) and the opening menu is displayed, but the PC crashes when I try to launch the game.

I actually still the Pentium2 PC which took place the game on a map of 3Dfx Voodoo2, but at the moment, it is completely dead so I need to find a replacement PSU before I can even try this troubleshooting. I can't trade this 3Dfx card in the machine AMD as the AGP slots are different (3.3 volts and 1.5 Volt flavors...)

    Anyone got any bright ideas?

Yes, I need also a new power supply that is included with my budget.

    Thank you!

    Revionion, welcome to the forum.

I'd be happy to help you in your choice.  The main problem is, recent video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS to legacy.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  The latest maps not requiring UEFI were the series GTX 640.  However, MSI has made a card that has a VBIOS hybrid which can operate with a BIOS.  The best thing to do is to choose a video card you like and contact Technical Support from the manufacturer to ensure that it will work on your computer as it is almost 7 years old.  This will save you problems.  They are the experts on their cards.

I like Corsair power supply units (PSU).  I suggest at least 500W.  This will give you plenty of power for any card that works in your computer.

If you have any other questions, let me know.  I'll be happy to help you.
