Connect two routers wireless from a modem, in two separate buildings

I'm new here, not completely incompitant and certainly not to this day with all the jargon, please make a simple answer.  I need to install 1 wireless router in a building where I recently installed the clients of satellite internet system.  You will also need to come from this internet connection to another building from about 100 feet away, where I will install a second wireless router.  The routers I bought are "N" and exactly the same thing.

In my mind, I could come of the modem, to the first wireless router, creating the network in this building.  Detach from one of the ethernet ports on the back of this router with a Cat5 goes out of the building, the second building, where I would connect the Cat5 into the wan port on the wireless router second creation of the network for the second building.

Not sure if it will work.  Don't know about bridging.  Please keep it simple.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Me

You don't want to connect to the internet port of the second router. Instead do it this way.

With this configuration if use identical SSID and wireless security settings you can even create a mobile wireless network, which is a wireless client can move the wireless AP to another (assuming that there is of course an overlapping coverage).

I had my 2009 Time Capsule or airport works very well with the modem from my ISP for years. I use the TC a hub wireless and backup. The upgrade of the modem: no problem. Over the weekend, there was a failure of the internet that has since been corrected for days. Since my TC failed to connect to the internet via the modem. I can get online via an ethernet cable from the modem to my two computers (one is a janky PC, the other bought a MacBook Pro in 2015), so I know it's not the modem.

I turned off and reset the modem several times. I turned off and reset the TC, repeatedly. I've reconfigured the TC twice per the instructions found in other discussions here. I _may_ not having the latest version of the software installed, but this has never been a problem in the past. Reconfiguration will display a green light, but in the diagnosis of the airport, it shows that it has not Internet even when connected via the Ethernet cable to the modem to work. Icons wireless on my laptop an exclamation or a warning icon.

The cable operator suggested that sometimes the router manufacturers 'close the ports' and must be reopened if the connection is down for awhile. It makes no sense to me, but I'm not very technical.

Any thoughts? Thank you very much

What is the number and the model of the modem?

There is a connection by Ethernet cable from the modem to time Capsule. The cable is connected to which port of the modem?  The cable is connected to which port on the Time Capsule?

If you open AirPort Utility on your Mac... (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)... is displayed the image of the time Capsule?  If Yes, when you click on the image, a small window pops up with an edit box... or... an option for installation manual appears at the bottom of the window?

  • is it possible to connect 2 computers 2 different 1 modem wireless routers

is it possible to connect 2 computers 2 different 1 modem wireless routers?

Why do you have 2 routers?

Depends on the design of the modem. It probably only supports a connection. So, you'll probably end up making a wired connection between modem and "1 router" and if you really need a second wireless router, install a wired connection between the 2 routers.

  • Connecting two routers WRT54G2 to extend the signal

I have available two routers wireless broadband Linksys G (WRT54G2), given to me by a family member. We use one of the routers by itself for some time, but have no adequate signal throughout our House. I decided it would be easier to design the floor plan of the House for you to see his situation compared with the rest of the House on the walls that do not. We have the HughesNet satellite internet which is on the roof just about the location of the modem and router at the bottom right of the image.

What do you think would be the best location of the main router? I read it would be more centrally located, because the signal travels horizontally and vertically. I just bought a 100' Ethernet cable being the only one that we had what the HughesNet Installer provided us with which is about 4'. I initially thought I would be the cable from main router to the basement where the second router is placed since the signal there is about 1 in 3 bars on my iPhone. The signal on the floor in the ranges of the main room (room at the top in the middle of the image) of 3-5 off 5 bars on my laptop.

I wanted to just put a post sooner rather than later to see what your views were on the location of the main router and I have to increase the signal.

Let me know if you have any questions to a better response.

I have updated the firmware on the main router.

If you want to configure the router as an access point 2 then the connection will be LAN to LAN which means the LAN port of the router port main o the 2nd router's LAN... But before you connect to the main router.

You should first connect the 2nd router to your laptop, go to the configuration page. Configure wireless settings it is firstly, ethier you set up another name and password is all up to you. Then change the IP address to a number of 192.168.1.x(any fera l'affaire) and disable DHCP... then after that connect to the main router.

  • Connecting two routers via a static route

I have a relatively simple configuration involving a Wireless-N Router and a wireless-B router (several years).  The N wireless router is connected to the internet (via DSL modem) and accepts several DHCP clients without problem.  Wireless - b router is connected to the Wireless-N router.  To do this, I connected the WAN port on the router wireless - b to a port on the router Wireless N ethernet (did not use the uplink). I have a PC connected to the router wireless - b, so I want him to be able to hit the internet, but also be accessible to DHCP clients on the Wireless N router.  The PC connects to the internet successfully, but it does not find clients on the network supported by the Wireless-N router.  It's about my setup:

    B 192.168.55.1 wireless router (LAN) 192.168.56.102 (WAN)

    PC 192.168.55.10 (active dhcp)

    Wireless N 192.168.56.1 (LAN) x.x.x.x (internet)

    (several clients dhcp... 192.168.56.100...)

I've added a static route in the hope that a computer on the network of the Wireless N router would be able to hit the PC, but nothing helped. I've added a static route as such, on the Wireless-N router, which was the only way that that would enable the web interface:

    Destination LAN 192.168.55.0

    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

    Gateway 192.168.56.102

I tried to place the router without wireless - B gateway mode, then router and changed mode, then return.  I can connect to the web interface of the router wireless - b from the PC, and I can connect to the internet from the PC.  Also, the PC is able to reach customers on Wireless N, but the reverse is not true, i.e. clients on Wireless N can't find clients on the wireless - B network. Also, I turned on the port forwarding on the router wireless - B so that it points to the PC, in the hope he would lead all traffic to the PC, but still cannot access PC.  How to configure both routers (or both set up as access point?) so that clients on the Wireless N Router can talk to customers on the wireless router - B?  For now, all customers are on DHCP, but finally, I would like to create static entries for at least two or three of them.

    Thanks in advance

Are Linksys routers teas? If so what model is router B? It may not supported for a DHCP client port forwarding. Even if you can get the port forwarding to work for a client on router B, it will not work for several clients.

In addition, if you have the option in router B, disable the SPI Firewall. It is the cause of the problem, in my opinion. If you do this, you should port forward.

Is there a reason that you connect the routers via the WAN port on the router B? You could uplink using an ethernet port on the B to an ethernet port on the N and avoid all this... You can always configure router B as a point of wireless access for specific customers.

  • A single modem towing cable routers wireless home - is it possible?

I would use two wireless routers to fully cover my house with Wi - Fi access. I have a wireless WRT5462 v1 I connected directly to the cable modem router and then connected a second wireless router to one of the first, with the CAT 5 CAT 5 ports enter the port of 'Internet' in the second, which is a WRT610N v1. The first router works fine, but the second does not include internet connectivity for devices that connect to it.

I suspect I need to change the Type of Internet connection in the basic Wireless Configuration - I changed from DHCP to a static IP 192.168.1.2, but it did not work.  Any help and advice greatly appreciated

You must leave the type of Internet connection for automatic DHCP configuration on the second router. You enter not more of these values.

Browser used: Mozella Firefox (the worst of all a fall); Google Chrome (still drops), now: IE, version 9, works best with Yahoo.com email than other browsers and email applications.

Use: System security Norton, tune up utilities, 2013 and Super Anti-Spyware - ALL have been used continuously without any problems before.

Problem: as soon as the internet connection disconnects, trouble, launch window is. I select the HOTFIX and then, it reconnects to the internet. He said NO problem with cable. Then, it connects to the internet.  Wireless is full Signal, and the other computer in separate rooms have no pproblem.  I thought that the problem could be the newwork pilot program be corrupt and went to update, BUT got a warning that says to use the APPROPRIATE Microsoft program, or can be a problem. Hi MHBolin,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community.

Wireless is a breakthrough in broadband technology. It can allow you to access the internet remotely. You have a problem with disconnect the wireless connection. It can be difficult when something that is important to you does not work as expected. It's pretty simple and we're here to help you solve the problem. We work as a team and get this sorted out.

    Please answer the question-

    (1) that you get an error message or error code?

    (2) what other troubleshooting steps have done?

    (3) have you done other changes on the computer before the show?

I would like more information about the issue.

    Method 1-

Sometimes, the computer cannot locate the IP address of the router. These problems can be solved by a simple reset of the router.

    See the steps-

    (a) locate a PIN size on the back of the router (that would be your reset button).

    (b) use a sharp object or to press the button to reset for a period of ten seconds and release.

    (c) now, wait for the lights on the router to Flash.

    (d) once the lights are stable try to connect to the internet.

    Method 2-

You must ensure that there is no interference between the router and the computer.

    The municipalities which are-

    (a) a cordless phone

    (b) thick walls

    (c) large bodies of water like the fish tanks

    (d) other wireless devices.

    (e) an immediate proximity to the router (maintain a distance of 6 feet from the router).

    Method 3-

  • How to configure Outlook Express using a hotmail account by using a USB from Rogers modem to connect to internet

I have my hotmail account set as Microsoft Outlook on the laptop using a USB from Rogers modem to connect to internet (I put in place using outlook connector).  I want to configure my hotmail account in Outlook Express (I don't think that we can have two separate accounts of Microsoft Outlook email on a laptop).  I'm absolutely baffled as the server name, incoming and outgoing mail server addresses.  By Rogers Web site, the incoming server is POP3 incoming mail server: pop.broadband.rogers.com and mail server: smtp.broadband.rogers.com that does not work.

    Thanks for your help,

The parameters you listed are for a Rogers.com e-mail account, not for a Hotmail account.  Please see How to add your e-mail to Microsoft Outlook Express account to the right settings.

BTW, you can have two separate accounts of Microsoft Outlook on a laptop.  Here are two ways to do:

    • If you and your partner have separate Windows user accounts, you will automatically have separate Outlook accounts.
    • If you use the same Windows user account, create a separate profile for each of you in Control Panel > Mail .

  • When I try to connect to my router wirelessly from my laptop and the room, he asks for my network key and I don't know what it is.

my brother used to all our computer equipment set up and he died last year. Well when I moved and tried to get into my new place it will not allow me without a network/wpa key. I know that I am trying to connect to my router and not my neighbors because when I unplug it it's the only name that disappears from the list of wireless networks. How can I know what is the network key or even set up a new? I am a bit technologically with faculties weakened to get detailed instructions on how to help me would be appreciated, but any help would be great.

I'm sorry for your loss. Since we do not know how your brother to set up the router, it would be better to start again just to make sure that your wireless network is secure. Reset the default router. This is usually done with the wired router (on) by pressing a small button on the back or the bottom of the router, now the button for about 30 seconds and then let go. You can find the manual on the router mftr's Web site. your router if you need it.

Once you have reset the router to default, set up correctly:

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

I can't access internet wirelessly from my laptop because I installed a new printer which is now connected to my router, is - it related somehow?

    Hello

    1. what happens when you use a wired connection?

    2. how many devices are connected to the router?

This can happen if you connect that a specific number of device to the router, and when it exceeds the limit. You can consult the router's manual or contact the manufacturer of the router to check if all the parameters must be changed to connect several devices.
