Power management problem: computer stops responding

I bought a HP D4790y desktop system on a year and a half. The problem I have is that somethimes when I put the computer to sleep (start-> sleep), the monitors shuts down but the processor does not seem to go to sleep (i.e., the power led on the enclosure does not blue (normal) to orange (sleep)). When this happens, I am unable to get the system to begin to meet again, and I have to force a shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds and then restarting. I've upgraded to a new graphics card (NVIDIA 8500 LFE) thinking it was a mismatch with the graphics card, which has been the cause of the problem - no luck.

A related problem is that sometimes the computer goes to sleep very well, but when I come back to start working again several hours later, light of the cpu has already changed back from orange to blue, but the system is completely insensitive (as described above) and I have to force a shutdown and restart. When I check the system event log, I can see the factor of reactivation with "Wake Source: Unknown" in the comments.
The Sleep function works perfectly about 75% of the time. The other 25% of the time, one of the problems above occurs.

Hi CrowT,

Take a look at this thread the Technet:

http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistasetup/thread/89d54396-1070-4cbe-b79f-46384d7de571

He gives excellent advice of troubleshooting for sleep problems.  One of the measures listed will display any device which is configured to wake mode 'sleep':

Click on start-> all programs-> Accessories.
Right-click command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
Type the following command and press ENTER.

Powercfg - devicequery wake_armed

    Hey there,

I have a very big problem with HP Connection Manager 4 on several Windows 7 laptops. The program is installed on about 250 laptop computers and some of them drive me crazy. Everything was fine until some point (I'm not quite sure, that could be after the installation of SP1, Win7), the connection manager has decided to stop working on some machines. • After the updates of windows, the computer stops responding with a black screen at startup of the system

Original title: Windows XP does not start after the update, no error message

Has made no changes to the system, but the last thing that happened was an update of Windows security on stop.

Now when I boot, the BIOS p.o.s.t. shows good HDs, good DVD-Rom, RAM, but Windows never starts, goes just a black screen, HDs are not accessed.

-F8 does nothing, can't use the last known good Config or Mode safe

-Change boot order in the BIOS to boot from the Windows XP DVD, hoping to get the recovery console, but the same thing: black screen, no attempt to spin-up DVD or HDs.

-Removal of mobo battery to reset the CMOS, no joy.

-Checked and re checked all connections inside.

-Stripped devices and added one at a time, no joy.

-Traded-in an old video card in case it was difficult to generate the higher res gfx, no joy.

I was construction/upgrade / repair my own PC for 3 decades and can usually solve the problem and fix it myself, but this one me completely baffled.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Cougarific,

We recommend that you repair your Windows installation in according to method 2 of this article and check the result.
See computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP

Note: When you perform a repair installation, it restores the current installation of Windows XP to the version on the installation DVD. This requires you to reinstall all updates that do not appear in this version of Windows XP disc.

  • BUG: Power Manager 3.64 stops working and won't uninstall

    Gravity; High

This has now happened twice in the past days.

The first time it corrupted my system to the point that I had to reinstall Windows.

The second time I have used the Startup Repair to return to a Point of recent restoration successfully.

I then removed and reinstalled Power Manager 3.64, which seems to be OK now (knock wood).

Nevertheless, it's a serious problem that must be quickly addressed and corrected!

It happened twice, it is that I got an error message that 'Power Manager has stopped working".

He offered to check if a new version is available to solve the problem, but it was not.

Both times the Power Manager on the taskbar battery indicator was an empty white outline.

Both times I tried to uninstall the power manager, but the Uninstall suspended indefinitely to 94%.

The only way that I could regain control of the system was with forced stop,

but which leads to corruption of Windows where crash bluescreen when starting.

Windows and Lenovo Patch logs events the most recent crash are attached.

    Hope that helps.

UPDATE: just crushed ("stopped working") new! This time I just rebooted, and it works again,

but this problem still needs to be fixed as soon as POSSIBLE!

Also, the only one I have access to power management are reading video and performance.  I tried to uninstall the power manager and the DLL associated with and then put it back, but that did not help.  Also, I don't see any reference to this problem to be solved.  Thanks in advance.  This gets really annoying as I like to use as little energy as possible since I quite often use the computer on battery power.

Asked this question in the Windows 7 forum also because the problem was between windows 7 and Vista.

    Hello

If it has started, you can try a system restore - an update "might" have caused the problem.

    1. try a system restore back to a point before that happened. And immediately thereafter enter
Control Panel - Windows updates - top left settings and set it to download and informs you instead
Automatic. Leave it until you are sure that everything is OK and then you can add them one at a time
to troubleshoot BUT click right on and HIDE all the driver updates. Also stop at day of drivers like below
and let this value - manually search for drivers when you think you need. (See how and why to)
    stop day of drivers below.)

How to make a Vista system restore
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-System-Restore-how.html

To uninstall an update if you determine that there are problems - Panel - updated Windows - down left-
    Updates installed - uninstall

I had completely forgotten the system restore!  While looking into the system restore, I found that when I moved into my new House and has cable Internet installed, the cable technology installed a program of comcast on my computer.  This caused me to not be able to connect with other computers.  After rolling back to install it before it works!   Thank you.

  • Computer stops responding when you navigate on the web

Recently, when I was browsing the web, my computer began to crash for long periods of time. The strange thing is that it only happens when I use Chrome 17 or 12 of Firefox. When I use Internet Explorer 9 I have no problem. The 'freeze' happens randomly on any web page, when I click to scroll down or click on a web link. The browser becomes unresponsive, followed by the bar spots and the office. I just have to wait for five minutes. I don't like to use Internet Explorer; I find much slower in performance compared to Chrome.

I use a Mobile Broadband, manufactured by ZTE, Vodafone Dongle to connect to the internet. I run the operating system of Windows Vista 64-bit Service Pack 2.

Unless Microsoft has started making chrome and Firefox work does not correctly if you use IE, I'd appreciate any help.

    Hello

I suggest you to contact the support of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox support for better support on the issue.
