Connect WRT160N wireless to the BEFSR41 wired

Hello-

I use the router BEFSR41 which is connected to my comcast modem and all PC, printer, computers cell phones work perfectly when you use additional ports.

I want to know if its possible to add a wireless router, WRT160N, across to the top, so I can move and then another room with the laptop.

I play internet games on my desk and do not want to move to the wireless, but use the laptop to other purposes of internet and sometimes need to use it in another room.

I have read the posts here and it seems possible, I want to just make sure I get the correct connections. I have also read the messages that State no, do not.

Are there easy instructions?

Thanks for any help,

CAT

I think that from the beginning that my problem was trying to connect wireless to my desktop PC... and after an hour or so trying to reconfigure the son discovered is not wireless because at the end of the year I had to buy a new network card and wasn't capable wireless.

I thought that since my office was the main link everything had to go through to the 'House' to work wireless connection.

So the first time that I have not found a link on the desktop, we wire the PLACE directly to the computer laptop and charge the WRT software on the laptop. The problem, he had us were always wired to the router BE and this is the page of the Linksys who returned to the top. We try to change the LAN IP address and turned off DHCP, but of course when I am connected to the internet on the desktop, it was not to find the router.

Of course during all this time, I was looking at this site and then went on the Comcast site, it just clicked and after several configurations more lead changes and trying to think about what I wanted to accomplish exactly, and how it "should" work... just went ahead as it was already set up and connected wireless to the BE and he was there.

I also remember that when you reset the modem and the router... it takes 'time '. As at least 5 min, what seemed like 15 minutes at the same time, I tried all of this. My frustration level has not helped knowing that it "can" be done if I just follow the signs.

So overall, my error when trying to set up my office as the main connection for the wireless and don't listen to not when my granddaughter told me that she 'had' upcoming wireless on the laptop.

Thanks for your help and great advice. We have the wireless connected and followed your instructions on securing the router with the network name, encryption WPA2 and AES... and hope never to lose the piece of paper its written on.

    Hello Verashanley

    Since how long did begin?
You have added a new software or hardware to the system?
If the issue took place recently then you can try the system restore.
If you have recently added anything to the system (hardware or software), then remove.
If the system restore does not then check in Device Manager and verify that the network card is considered and no errors appear.
To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click performance and Maintenanceand then click System. In the hardware tab, click Device Manager.
Check the type of network card you have and that you try to update the drivers from the hardware manufactures Web site.
Also, check the connection for the network adapter. Do you see any physical damage. When you plug the NIC saw all the lights on the network card lights up? If not, then you can deal with a hardware problem and need to contact the manufacture of the system and see about obtaining the card replaced.
Let me know the results. Thank you.
  • OfficeJet 8500 Prime will not connect to wireless for the scanning of email

    HP Officejet 8500 first.

    Western Digital N900 router

Printer is connected to my home wireless network and wireless to my HP Pavilion laptop (which is in the same room).

I felt for a few years and I do a LOT of scans to myself on my e-mail and rarely have problems.

About a month ago, I got a new wireless router, and the problems started.

I had the wireless configuration.  Printer connect to my home wireless.

If I try to scan to e-mail, I get a message "unable to connect to the server. Check the address and the name of the server.

I can print from my laptop very well (wireless)

I have run the wireless network test report (which incidentially, does NOT use the default tray as specified in default values, so I have to remove the media in a status bar and replace them with paper to make turn this test).

    All passes.

    very good signal strength.

no other network with the same ssid

    Wireless networkes detected: 3

    Channel 11

    everything looks great.

I connect to my router (from my wireless laptop).

My router says that the printer is on the network.

I turned off/power on router to reset.

I tried the reset network default printer and returning via the wireless Assistant.

I tried another wireless (5g below)

I got the preferred wireless network name and password several times.

I turned the printer deactivation / activation.

    The SSID signal is using 2.4 Ghz (802.11 B + g + n) 20 / 40 mhz channel (auto) AND I ALSO tried with channel (11) just

The router includes a 5 GHz (802.11 a + n), but the printer never sees this SSID, and tried manually enter the name and password as well.

I get the same error every time.

Sounds like you arehaving problems with scanning to email. Can you tell me first if you have tried all the other email accounts other than the one you are using. According to the security on the SMTP servers for the customer, you will have to go and try another account. I suggest to make a Gmail account and attempt to put in place the new feature.

I would like to know how this happens, and I'll get back right with you!

  • Connection with WiFi increases the latency of the Wired internet

Hello!  I use a Zyxel P-660HW-D1 v2 802.11 g Wireless ADSL2 + 4 port Gateway, which offers wired and wireless connectivity.  My office is connected via an ethernet cable.  Whenever I access the WiFi using my smartphone, the latency of the internet from my office rises considerably.  Disabling WiFi on my smartphone returns my office for normal internet latency.  Is it only a matter of sharing the wired ADSL connection and wireless at the same time, or is there a way I can keep the normal latency on my desktop using WiFi at the same time?  Thanks in advance for any help or information you can give me.

    AFRO-CARIBBEAN

I suspect it is the limited nature of ADSL, but you can confirm this by going to speedtest.net and running a test of speed and during the trial to connect with the phone.  If the DL speed remains the same (or drops) causing problem.

  • Xbox 360 slim connect to the interface on WRT160N wireless - g

    Hello:

I bought a new Xbox 360 Slim a month ago. Before that, in anticipation of the console to my new wireless capabilities I advanced and changed my old WRT54G (1.1) for a wireless-N router WRT160N allowed.

When I plugged the console for the first time it was a nightmare to configure wireless settings... It wouldn't connect, in every possible way... And when I finally made a connection that he deleted just after 1 hour (I think it had something to do with the renewal of WPA key, if you must ask) I've updated the firmware and all was good again. BUT! It only connects to wireless-G... I have the router located on 'Mix', so she accepts my notebooks 802.11 G and my 360 Wireless N, but just, it detects the router mode G and connects like that...

I tried EVERYTHING, but nothing works.

It connects fine, I even get open NAT on the console and play online with no apparent problems, but I need Wireless N, because the router and 360 are too separate, and the signal is becoming weak. Also I usually stream 1080 p content so I need more bandwidth.

I tried setting that "only wireless n" router, but then the console just does not connect, says he "can't connect to the wireless hardware.

I could not test any hardware wireless-N, so I don't really know if it's the fault of the router, the console or is that just, they are not compatible...

    Any tips?

Can't... My only two options are 'automatic' or 'only 20 Mhz'... :/ I can only change the channel on 20 Mhz. But thanks for the tip.

    EDIT:

OMG, I can't believe it... It is NOT a malfunction N wireless network... This has to do with security... I had my personal WPA authentication method... According to joint works like a charm and everything connects, but the Xbox connect just the wireless G. Under Wireless-N only, it just does not connect. But I tried to disable security, and he comes to connect n wireless!

Now, I switched to WPA2 Personal... it connects perfectly on Wireless N even if I set the 'Mixed' router and broadband radio and the way to the car.

My problem is solved, however, I got to know is always:

Why he doesn't connect WPA enabled?

  • Unable to connect to the Internet via AP WAP54G through a BEFSR41 wired router

I'm puzzled. This connection was working fine but something changed... I don't know how he did. I connect to the internet via a WAP54G through a BEFSR41 to a cable modem. I checked all the settings and even reset several times but nothing helped. I can connect wireless to the WAP54G but no internet connection. The signal strength is excellent. The Vista wireless interface signals that I am connected but only locally with no internet relay. What's wrong? What I forgot. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solved the problem. Seems a sequence to these pair of power and even if I cycled power, I did not properly. Also, I created a new wireless network to ensure that nothing is associated with the former network that has been tampered contributed to the issue.

  • Wireless router WRT160N cable on the desk, I loose internet when the laptop is turned off.

I have wrt160n v2 router wireless, it does not work for me.

If my wireless XP laptop is only powered ON the Vista desktop internet wired connection works, I'm not wired or wireless using laptop computer, not on the internet, only power.

If the laptop is turned off, I have no internet on the desktop, always connected via the router.

The laptop is used and I didn't know if the without built-in thread was pretty new, so I bought a card to go in wireless.

When everything is on everything is to play on the internet times two computers, but if you turn off the laptop I have to connect internet directly on the Office to continue in the internet.

I started working with a tech support yesterday and they are difficult to understand. I had put in the new firmware and the problems persist.

Can someone help me, I don't really have time to be on the phone for hours figure this all out.

    Thank you

  • Wireless connection works only when the printer is turned off

my desktop computer requires an adapter wireless for internet connection.  installation of this card was problematic and I discovered I mean it was because of my printer - a kodak esp 6150 desktop, which can work wireless.    I can only connect wirelessly when the printer is off on this computer.  However, two other laptops that do not need a separate wireless adapter are able to connect wireless when the printer is on.  any suggestions?   Thank you.

    Hi Moscotty,

You can read the following article and check if it helps.

Windows wireless and wired network connection problems

  • Connect a wireless printer anywhere, wired derivation convert, does not have radio, add WPA2 security.

Update- good because when the wireless radio failed to convert a wired Ethernet printer to wireless technology, or if you want your printer to support greater security WPA2 wireless.

Updated - connect to a hotel/motel/school dormitory may not work if the network uses Enterprise authentication requesting a user name and password on your computer.

This article will try to explain how to connect your wireless devices, including printers, to a wireless network when you are away from home.  The problem when you're in a hotel, motel, room student or other areas is your computer connects fine, but your wireless printer, you have brought with you, has connection/security problems.  Other people/wireless devices can find the printer on an open network, connect you to the printer and start printing without reason just because 'they can do. "

You'll need is a small wireless travel router.  TP-LINK TL-WR702N Wireless N Nano router or other router of trip is all you need.  The WR702N is available on eBay or Amazon for only $21.00, that's right, only $ 21.

This device does not support the authentication of company systems because it cannot meet any username and password prompts these system as your computer can.  However, it will connect to a standard WPA SSID and your computer, but if you receive a browser for other questions page redirect, it won't work.

It's a small powerful travel router which built in 5 modes of operation (more than your home router can do):

    1. AP mode
    2. Client mode
    3. Repeater mode
    4. Router mode
    5. Bridge mode

The TP-WR702N information is found here:

    http://www.TP-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-WR702N#over

To see the overview of applications see here first to understand:

    http://www.TP-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-WR702N#app

I won't go into the details on how to configure these modes in the TP Link router Nano as the manual does a great job.  One thing you must remember is that you must assign a static IP address on your wired Ethernet connection of computers to access the Web interface internal of the Nano.  The Nano is configured with an Ethernet cable at any time.  It's security that the router that has DHCP disabled so if you connect to a network, you won't crash it with an IP address conflict.  The Nano is powered by a USB cable and comes with a USB AC adapter too.

The IP address of the Nano is default 192.168.0.254.  Set your computers Ethernet Port, adapter not wireless, a static IP 192.168.0.1, 255.255.255.0 DNS address.  You have to find a way to do it yourself, but it is explained in the manual and on the web for the operating system of your computer.

This leaves your wired Ethernet connection to a static IP address and your adapter wireless DHCP.  Don't forget to put your wired to DHCP if you need to use it later for a wired connection.  Connect the Ethernet cable from your computer to the router Nano.

Set up your browser by going to 192.168.0.254 (Nano IP address) in the address bar and you'll get the username and password login screen.  The default username and password is admin/admin, you can change it if necessary.

    Set the Nano bridged mode:

Other modes will be mentioned later but for now; Bridge mode will serve as this isolates and creates your own SSID private the hotel/motel/dorm room open wireless network SSID.  In Bridge Mode you entrance and connect to the Rangoon SSID (paraphrasing) AND set up your own small network with your own SSID and password.  Your SSID will be separated and protected through WPA2-AES security that you set up.   You will be able to go online normally fine, but all of your devices will now connect to your private SSID.

    Example:

Hotel SSID: HILTON Hotel Paraphrase and password: GUEST

Nano SSID: MYNETWORK Nano Paraphrase/password: HP5514

With this information, the rest is easy.  You set your SSID private and password first, they you must find and connect to the SSID and password hotels.  Simply click on the SURVEY button and a list of all available networks will be displayed along with their MAC addresses.  Find the network SSID, you want to connect (bridge) too and click on "connect".  Information is entered automatically.  I suggest that you also edit your channel wireless on a fixed channel as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto '.

Save your settings and you will be told to restart the router.  Follow the instructions and always restart the router after any changes take effect.  This Nano restarts in 20 seconds approximately.

Now on your computer when you scan available networks, you will see MYNETWORK.  Connect your computer to the SSID and enter your HP5514 password and you're on!  Start surfing or something else.

Now, what about your printer?  The printer must be set to DHCP and assuming that you have a printer wireless with front panel:

    1. Go to (Assistant) wireless configuration screen.
    2. Search for available networks.
    3. Select: MYNETWORK
    4. Enter your password: HP5514
    5. To connect!

In about 15 seconds, you're connected!   Oh, guess what?  The Nano has a WAN/LAN port and in Bridge mode, it is a LAN port that is connected to your network too!  Then plug into a printer/computer Ethernet cable, if you wish.

Your printer will work as usual with no change at all.  I set up in my house to test and it connected perfectly to my HP5514 wireless printer.  All the tools, diagnostics, printer functions, alerts of ink were normal.

    You're done!

The bottom can be used anywhere to create a local private network so that you and others can use your printer.

Now, what about the changes?  If at home, you can use the Nano in Repeater mode to connect to your own network and extend the reach of all devices.  Even as the Bridge mode, but you're on your network using your SSID and the word normal, so everyone can use the printer.

Don't worry what you heard with speed of execution of a router in Repeater Mode.  Most routers House when running in wireless Repeater mode should be set to no encryption or WEP only.  Here max speed is 54 Mbps.  This Nano turns at full speed of 150 Mbps in these modes, using the highest security WPA2-AES (personal).

Remember that the size is small, so it's good to perhaps more than 50 feet.  HD video streaming was impeccable and surf watch video at the same time was perfect.

I hope this help you when business or vacation.  Some hotels charge for EACH device connection.  With the implementation above, it takes only a charge for multiple devices, such as cell phones, iPads, light fires, computers or anything else you want to connect.

EDIT - do not forget that this Nano device has an Ethernet connection that once configured, you can use to connect a wired computer or wired Ethernet printer.  It is a good radio your printer wireless doesn't have to convert a wired Ethernet wireless printer or if you want your printer to support greater security WPA2 wireless.

    Have fun!
