Curage Driverstore

Hello

I have a bit of a disk space issue I need help unravel. I am running Win7 on a 60 GB SSD and run catastrophically low on space recently, this morning, I have identified that the main culprit was the practices of software extremely sloppy from NVidia which seem to assume that everyone has infinite storage and would have no problem keeping a year or more the value of their drivers, just in case they are in a retro mood and want to return to a driver of end of 2013. I managed to get a good 7 GB removing these (by the way, if anyone has a NVidia card & disk space issues, clearly outside the program corporation\installer2, NVIDIA is just backups), but then when I look at me my drive for any substance more I could delete it to reclaim space, I fall on the driverstore. It takes 7.5 GB of space, is 6.5 GB including these cursed pilots New NVidia!

The driverstore is a great idea, but the execution needs work, like NVidia, it seems built on the assumption of an infinite storage that is simply unrealistic in the era of the SSD (and I really hope that changes in Win10, 2 backups is a lot). I need to get rid of these drivers but nothing I seem to work, I can't take ownership or set permissions on the folder, perhaps because the files are write-protected, but I can not change this setting to be.

I've added my account to administrator level to the list of users for the record and gave him full control, but it still won't let me not take possession of the subfolders or driverstore folder, I'm tempted to try at the level of individual files but I'm terrified that it might actually work and I'll have to spend a week manually change permissions on 6.5 GB of files one by one. I don't have the option to deny access to user system for files but I have never tried before and during the tertiary 3 qualities of IT, I never met anything by announcing that so my instincts flashing a big neon big sign "don't be silly" to this idea. It's something considerably higher than ever levels system admin, I'm, I'm a network engineer more than anything else, so I hope that someone here might have an idea that I have not tried.

I think hard on burning a Linux bootable disc and just before wipe manually with it, but I find earlier than a windows based just solution if I can learn to do it rather than bypass it. It is close to the point where I have to just bite the bullet and do a full format anyway, but I need to stretch things for about a month or two until it's convenient to do so.

Help me MicrosoftAnswers-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope...

-Nvidia is not only keeping the installation for the drivers files. AMD does the same thing, but everything in

I've never paid much attention to the DriverStore-

I see only 1.7 GB in mine, atm and none for Nvidia (btw my Win7 install dates back to January 2010).

Most are for AMD64. Hmm, curious... it's been almost a year that I've changed an AMD gpu Nvidia,

but by the looks of it, a lot of them are for my AMD chipset.

Some may be the machine that this Win7 installation was the first, but I don't remember atm if she

If you are not already aware of it, you will also find two GPUs mfg to decompress the files

in a folder in C:\.

You can delete these files after installing the drivers and get 100 MB by driver

(512MB NVIDIA version 344.65).

If you have a lot of riders unpacked here you might find a few GB.

-System Restore can suck a lot of GB too, depending on how you put it in place.

"In this era of SSD", you should always also a decent HARD drive capacity, or at least a 120 GB SSD.

Unless of course, you enjoy frequently management/moving files from the SSD to others

-It is also advisable to keep at least 10% free space, but some suggest as many 20% on an SSD for

Well that die cells of memory may not be a big a questions like has been predicted since the advent of SSDS (according to a recent study, it is looking like the SSD (maybe not at the beginning of) will be handle lot more writes than predicted, perhaps more than a HARD drive).

Nothing in the Windows or Program Files and files their subfolders should be left alone.  You won't earn a significant amount of disk space, and you may cause to yourself untold trouble sleeping herein.  Use instead the provided Windows Disk Cleanup.  You can get to it by clicking on start-> computer, then click on the C: drive and click Properties.  On the general tab, you will see disk cleanup.  Use it and you will be safe (and not sorry).  Everything you personally placed on the computer can always be removed of course as long as you do not try to remove installed manually the software (use the programs and features in the control panel for this).

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

IF I create the folder and copy the .inf appropriate folder manually, through installation and device is correctly installed. This, however, is too demanding offer. I would like to know how to solve this problem (and maybe what caused it).

Here's what I do in fact (using this key USB for example - any other device that I have not yet installed as for example my old digital camera newly purchased USB hub root fails in the same way and the content of setupapi.dev.log is very similar to above):

    1. [Plug device]
    2. New hardware detected
    3. Locate and install driver software (recommended)
    4. .. Search on Windows Update...
    5. "Windows found driver software for your device, but encountered an error [blaa]...". »
    6. [Vista leaves the unit with the null driver]

To get the device works, check the log and create some Installer is looking for, repeat the steps above and the device is installed.

I think there could be something wrong with my DriverStore; Maybe access permissions (I put plenty of administrator, system and TrustedInstaller). Is it possible to reinstall completely/System32 DriverStore?

    Thanks in advance,
    Esko

Edit: my Vista is up-to-date with Windows Update--> nothing to update.  It is Vista 64 bit Home Premium edition

    Hi EP,.

You can retry installing with the anti-virus disabled temporarily to see if it prevents the folder being created.

If this does not help, you can perform a clean boot to see if a startup program is causing a conflict:

    Hi quazi_albany,

This seems to be a driver file printer Inbox for epson printers.

    Method 1:

You try to run a SFC scan to check all corrupted files.

You can read the following article to launch the SFC scan:

  • DriverStore\FileRepository files get damaged.

I have a very irritating problem with my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate installation. The problem arises when I need to install a new device/updated drivers etc. and I can't find the root cause.

The problem is that the files that are copied to the \Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository during the installation of the driver are sometimes corrupt: for example, if you open an INF file, it is full of garbage. This can happen right away during the installation of the driver or at the next reboot. Of course, Windows complains so the next time he's trying to (re) install the drivers for this device.

Usually, I can manually copy the files from the directory/correspondents of another installation of 64-bit and the problem recurs not until I use the installer of the device - if I use the Device Manager and point it in the right direction (so that the files are not reinstalled) then it's OK.

I am really frustrated with this, I ran various controls and ultimate disc even re-installed as an upgraded on-site and I am puzzled. Virus/Malware scans reveal nothing. There is no evidence in the files of setup.api/dev.log either :(

This could be the cause of this corruption? I see no evidence of any other files get corrupted in this way.

    Thank you.

  • HP Designjet 500 42: Old problem of driver update

    Hello

I have HP Designjet 500 printer 42 in. And I can't update the old drivers. I downloaded new drivers drivers

Installed new drivers and the printer connected to the computer. Installed printer itself. Driver version but check it shows in 6.08 (preferably printer-> subject) window.

I deleted all drivers using pnputil.exe d Oem # .inf and printui/s/T2 orders. All the drivers of HP has been removed from

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

    and

    C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3

Installed new drivers (8.10) and pluged in the printer. Printer has been installed but with drivers 6.08. So I went to the "print management" as an administrator. Pressed on HP Designjet 500 42 by HP printer 'Manage sharing'-> "Advansed"-> "New driver"-> 'Disc' and in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository I chose "dsgj510.inf_amd64_* *" folder and the dsgj510.inf file here. But could not find "HP Designjet 500 printer 42 in.". Here only:

    HP Designjet 500 42 + HPGL2 card; HP Designjet 500 plus 42; HP Designjet 500ps plus 42; HP Designjet 500PS42 + HPGL2 card; HP Designjet 510 42 inch printer and HP Designjet 510ps 42-inch printer.

I tried to use HP Designjet 500 42 + HPGL2 card HP Designjet 500 plus 42 drivers. But printer would give an error message and do not print.

With the help of the 6.08 driver version I can print from some software, but I need to print from AutoCAD. And AutoCAD gives me the error message "no: cannot use this configuration of tracer for one of the following reasons: the driver is not found, cannot find the device or the driver has a problem." No device has been substituted. "And I can't choose the HP designjet 500 printer in AutoCAD.

It is a shared printer and other computers on the network have 8.10 drivers and can print from AutoCAD. Single computer, the printer is pluged cannot print because it driver 6.08.

    I found the problem.

On the page under 10 64-bit windows this is only "HP Designjet 500 and 510 HP-GL/2 and HP RTL driver 64 bit" 8.10 drivers. And this driver is not HP Designjet 500 printer 42-inch drivers. But under 64-bit windows 8, here's two pilots. "Driver HP DesignJet 500 PCL3GUI 64-bit" 8.10 drivers and same as above. This file have drivers for HP Designjet 500 printer 42 inches and runs under windows 10.

If HP support lazy to put all work them drivers under windows 10 for HP Designjet 500 printer.

  • Windows Vista on Satellite M60-104

I need to install Windows Vista RC1 to test the operation of the applications under Vista, and my Satellite M60 is the only PC with a pretty good spec to run it. Are there problems installing Vista on this model?

Don't know if it will have the same problem as the M40, where there seems to be a conflict with the PCMCIA drivers that keeps him from start. (The unit on the M40 motorway is Texas Instruments PCI-xx21/xx11 CardBus Controller with UltraMedia.) There is a way around this, however.

With a name like "techpro" maybe it's a bit basic, but:
You have a complete, tested backup?
You plan to use it on dual boot?

On the M40, the installation runs smoothly until the second reboot "Finish Installation" and after that just hangs.

You must boot from the dvd, choose the line of command/Install/repair/advanced option and rename (or delete) the following files:
    Pcmcia.sys Windows\system32\drivers
windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository pcmcia.inf_* (numbers here are different on the build 5600/5728).

Or it may be a different configuration and install and start very happy...

Thanks PCalaminci. I got exactly the same error and same configuration (Win10 x 64 with bitlocker active). The solution is as PCalaminci suggests: temporarily disable the driver signature digital verfifaction (looks like HP delivered a driver with a valid Publisher unknown/no signature that is the cause of the installation of the bomb).

Note: To temporarily disable checking of driver (on Windows 10) signing it is easier...

    1. In Windows, go to PC settings (you can search for it in the start menu).
    2. Click on 'update & recovery' on the left side.
    3. Click on "Recovery" on the left side.
    4. Click "Restart now" button under Advanced Boot.
    5. Select Troubleshooting-> advanced-> startup parameters and press Restart
    6. Press the number corresponding to the entry 7 "disable driver signature enforcement".
    7. Install the drivers. After your system restarts again once you won't able to install any unsigned drivers until you repeat steps 1-6.

Above works even if you have your hard drive encrypted with bitlocker (you need not type in your recovery key).

    Thank you

    Ben

    Hello @abenc85, greetings!

Thank you for becoming a member of the HP Forum. It's a place dynamite to get help from the community, to get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

I understand that you are having problems during the installation of the Deskjet printer on your computer Windows 10. Try the following steps to resolve the problem:

    • Start by unplugging the USB cable between the printer and the PC.
    • Go to control panel of configuration-programs and features, select all entries of HP printer and uninstall them.
    • Go to control panel, devices and printers, select each printer entry and then select remove printer / device.
    • Now press the 'windows' key + 'r' to open the window "Run" - type "printui.exe/s" and press ENTER.
    • Under the print server properties, go to the drivers - delete any input there as well.
    • Once again go to run the window, type - "c:/programdata" - go to the Hewlett-Packard folder, delete any printer related folders & files.
    • Now restart your computer.
    • Reopen the run window, type "services.msc" and press ok to get the services window.
    • Scroll down to "RPC Remote Procedure Call ()" - right click and go to properties. Make sure that the service is started and the startup type is "automatic".
    • Now, scroll to the top and go to 'Function Discovery Provider Host' - right click and select properties-change the startup type to "manual" and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on "Function Discovery Resource Publication" as well.
    • Click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/DJ3700_Basicx64_1079.exe and install the drivers.
    • Select the type of connection and then connect the USB cable if necessary.

Please let me know if that solves the problem, or if you need assistance

    See you soon

  • Error Vista crcdisk.sys Tecra A4 - solution

    Hello world!

I have create this post to share my experience of installing vista on a Tecra A4 (tecra a4 257 to be precise)

to be brief, the first time that the installation of vista freeze, it is on the famous "crcdisk.sys" in safe mode
---> solution: reboot on the installation DVD and go to "repair my computer" then the command prompt to delete/rename \windows\system32\drivers\pcmcia.sys and \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\pcmci ablablabla

But even after that, I'm not able to complete the installation because I uncounter the famous 'black screen of death' (more precise, after the first restart, Setup will "finish installation" and after a while, the screen goes white and my laptop freeze without HDD activity more)
---> solution: after remove/rename pcmcia.sys e.a., delete/rename all the files on your Texas instruments PCIxx21 because it is this f * ing material that make vista freezing!

so I renamed all the files in the windows\system32\drivers folder named * 1394 * (for firewire controller that belongs to a TI PCIxx21) as well as in the \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\ and \windows\inf\ folder
I have renamed in the same files all files named sd * (for the reader of card memory, another part of TI PCIxx21)

After that installation is finished and I was able to see vista and aero for the first time (sniff...)

I hope that someone help :-)

    Sly

    Nice tips.
I think all information on Vista are very useful to us because it s a new OS and there are always a lot of questions.
    Thank you very much.

It is still problematic to discuss problems that sometimes occur.
Have you noticed this behavior on all the games you want to play or simply by more recent games?

While gaming, you use your laptop with power plan to high performance?

By the way: shipping info DX is OK but I m 100% sure that no one here will read this.

  • Error during installation of recovery

A few weeks ago I bought a recovery dvd for windows vista. Until today, I didn't need to install it. Todya I tried to install the dvd but I got an error.

This error has been read: [warning] C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prn ca001.inf_92fbd03f\I386\CNBP_192.DLL.

Te file in the directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Error: ImageX could not apply Vista v:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\08603XSP.swm

This means that the Recovery DVD is corrupt?

    Thanx

    Hi Molema,

According to the error message looks like the recovery disk does not work properly and if file can be read or is damaged

To make sure that it s the recovery disc to malfunction test a normal Microsoft Windows disk. If the installation works it seems that the recovery disk is defective :(

  • deskjet6840: kernel driver missing

Need help, the HP Deskjet printer cannot be installed on this computer, note missing kernel driver. The printer will install on other 64 bit Windows 7 computers. Another printer will install on this computer. What is a kernel driver and how can I find?

    Thank you

    Joe

After interfacing with two of then high call HP support people I still had the same problem with the printer. Niether nobody told me what kernel driver loaded the HP printer drivers. Support from people trying to sell me a new printer which I am sure they both knew would work because I believe they knew exactly what the real question.  It was that the file ntprint.inf was absent from the FileRepository. This is where the file should be.

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ntprint.inf_amd64_neutral_4616c3de1949be6d

    Ntprint.cat

    -> the missing file Ntprint.inf

    Ntprint. PNF

The real problem is that these plug printers folder 32-bit support. There is also a ntprint.exe & ntprint.dll which is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32.

I have other computers windows 7 home so I got the file on another computer, but if you know the House to use the

WindowsAKI you can get the file on your installation DVD. Others have written how to do this. Allso to move or copy the file in the right folder, you must modify the security permissions.

After that I added the ntprint.inf file loaded the printer driver and now I can access the printer.

I think that this might be why other people are having problems loading printer driver, not only HP printers.

I guess I can say problem sovled, and I don't have to buy a new printer.

    Kind regards

    Railroadjoe
