Defective screen on Portege M800
I bought a PORTEGE (M800-107) in 2009 and before the expiration of the 3-year-old warranty (2012), the screen went black all the time.
I sent it to the official service of TOSHIBA in Greece (called "IDEAL his '), who fixed it in about a month (and after two attempts).
A year and a half later, the screen went black again. Now they ask me 500 euros for the replacement of the screen. Of course I won't give all these money.
Portege was the 3rd Toshiba laptop, I used. I chose it because I wanted something powerful and professional. The irony is that the more expensive model has exploded sooner than the cheapest.
However, it was the LAST ONE on your part.
PS: in order to take my laptop (without attachment), I have to pay 30 euros for check technicians!
Really, you know someone who goes to the service for fun? Or I am responsible for the failure of your model?

To be honest I m was really asking you this display problem. Portege and Tecra are the best notebooks of Toshiba business line and for years, they are known as products of high quality with the best material.
Anyway, sometimes the best products have problems and be in trouble. Similar things happen with all technical products. I know that's enough damage and angry, especially in the time when you need your laptop.
Maybe it sounds stupid now, but maybe you can buy view on your own and find someone who can exchange it for you. I did it for my friend a few years ago. We purchased watch on eBay and we exchanged it alone. Of course on our own risk.

Portege M800 - Touchpad light extinguishes, and comp slows
I have a Portege M800, model PPM81C-05C020.
My problem is that the light above my touchpad dims and then gradually turns off completely. When this happens, I can't use the touchpad. Fortunately, I have an external mouse plugged in, but when the Synaptics mouse turns off, it also slows down my computer. I type this post very slowly and it still takes forever for words on the screen to catch up as I type. Portege M800 no boot after BIOS update

I encountered some problems with my netbook (Portege M800-10W) after the BIOS update.
The update of the BIOS program appears failed. Then my Netbook automatically rebooted and now I can't start my PC more.
All the LEDs will light up but the screen remains black and after a few minutes, the beep 3 times (1 long, 2 cm) netbook.How do I restore the BIOS to the previous version (or plant)?

Portege M800-106 - bad quality by using the external monitor
I use an external monitor LG Flatron L1811S on my Portege M800 and find that the image is not rock solid when I use the display on my desktop or screen of the M800.
It is particularly visible on the big patches of color block where I can see shimmering light. I noticed that it's especially bad if I recently reconnected the laptop to the network after using on battery power until the battery is fully charged.This makes me think that the PSU interferes with the VGA output?

Portege M800-108 - LAN does not

First of all, I'll post my information system
Portege' M800-108 Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 1, with all the latest updates
Router DLink DSL G624T no DHCPI got my laptop connected to my router this morning with LAN cable, and everything worked great. When I returned home, I connected the laptop to the router and the LAN was not working. The LED on the router would be clear ON and then turn off and then ON and OFF again, as if the PC is looking for a connection.
I used all of the 4 ports on the router, I've used different cables and the problem is still there.
The LAN driver is the most recent available.
WLAN works very well on the contrary.Any suggestion? Is this a HW problem?

You said that the s light will light up and then move offshore, on and outside.
This happens on all 4 ports?Normally, when this happens on a router or a switch which means that the router is defective.
But you can try this:
Unplug the router AC adapter. Wait at least 1-2 minutes and plug it back on again once.
Maybe the router is working properly, and if not, you should change. -
Portege M800 - the system hangs after connecting to fingerprint
I just got my Portege M800 weeks ago and frankly speaking, this model has been giving me a lot of trouble. Earlier, it's heat problem in the palm rest and there is no solution for it.
Now I am facing another problem with the connection of fingerprints. I'm running on Windows XP. I put the system must be locked after 5 minutes of inactivity. So normally after 5 minutes of inactivity, the system will have to be me to scan my fingerprint to open the windows. But there are moments which, after analysis of my fingerprints and put in correspondence with success, the screen will be just white (only show the desktop wallpaper). Not the desktop icons, no taskbar windows and nothing. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up nothing and no answer even not a button. I tried to put the system to Hibernate by press the power button once as no response.
So I have to finally press and hold the power button to reset the laptop.
No matter which can help or give any idea of what was going on? Thank you!

Portege M800 - horizontal lines on external monitor
I just bought a number of new M800 (model number - PPM81A-06L01J) and all have second screens connected.
On all secondary monitors, there are wavy horizontal lines. Secondary monitors are all of different sizes and different brand and model. They are all also on their native resolution and refresh rate. I also got the latest video drivers installed. Any body have an idea as to why this is and how to fix it?

I n t have a Portege M800, but on my Portege M700 I had some problems with the external monitor connected too.
Here's the story about this:I connected the new external monitor for Portege M700 directly with an old VGA cable. Usually it t wasn't a problem for me but I was not satisfied with the quality of the image on the external monitor (a bit blurry) so I started to update the display driver and the BIOS of my Portege M700 but without success.
Anyway, I tried a bit with Google and here in the forum and I decided to buy a new high-quality VGA cable. I exchanged the cable and what happens? Perfect image quality!As you can see, you should always use high quality new cables. Also, make sure that you use the highest screen resolution of the external display (native screen resolution) and set the refresh rate of the screen at 60 Hz.

A friend of mine had the same problem with another laptop. If it holds the laptop or door to another place it completely freezes. :(
He did send the laptop to an authorized service provider and they replaced the motherboard. A few days later he did return the laptop and everything was working fine again! :)So I think you should send it to an ASP too. If you n t know one, on the Toshiba site, you can search for the nearest:

Portege M800 - mode 'sleep' and wake up fails
Hi all
you just bought a new Portege M800 running Vista.
When the system goes into sleepmode or put into hibernation, there are not any what posisbility to wake up the system. I have to remove the battery is reactivated.
Downloaded and installed the latest version of the BIOS, does all the Vista updates. Also checked the BIOS, the wake on LAN and the wake of keyboard are enabled
Anyone else having this problem?Meanwhile, I've disabled hiernation and sleepmode in Vista, but this should not be the way to do it.
Any advice much appreciated

I m not a Portege M800 owner but normally I would say that you should try to update the BIOS and install all Windows updates, but you already have it not.
What can you do now? If you have installed your own version Windows try again with the factory settings. Maybe it has something to do with software or then I don't know m.
If it doesn t work I think you'll need professional help to an authorized service provider. Technicians can check your parts defective laptop hardware and trade if it of necessary.

Portege M800 - SSD, lag of 30 seconds before the start after POST
I have recently upgraded to an Intel Postville's G2 X 25 - M 80 GB SSD and experience a second rule 30 between the BIOS POST (black screen) and actual boot from the disc. Support of the Intel says that it is probably a BIOS problem and that I should install the latest firmware, which I already did (4.80).
System: Windows 7, 127-Portege M800-127 PPM81E M800.

I guess that this shift will be caused due to the BIOS test. After you turn on your laptop it checks internal devices like HDD/SSD, CD/DVD disk, CPU, RAM, etc. So some of the material was originally this delay, I think.
If the latest BIOS can't solve your problem, it would be interesting to know what is happening with a SSD of replacement. Can you check that out, please?

To my knowledge it is not possible to use a second HDD Portege M800.
The laptop supports eSATA connection so you can connect an external HARD drive.

Portege M800-103 - Bluetooth not working not not Linux
Hello.
I have a Toshiba Portege M800-103 (PPM81A) and a system to dual-boot with Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.1 x86_64 (recently installed).
Almost everything works well under Ubuntu except bluetooth, which is not yet recognized.I also tried the omnibook and the toshset (with unbearable = 12) drivers. I have had no success at all.
Little help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked OS support for this model of laptop computer?
As much as I know this Portege is not Linux supported and Toshiba doesn't offer BT stack for Linux.Have you checked some Ubuntu forum? Maybe you can find some useful information there. I imagine that a lot of people have the same problem with the different laptop models.

Portege M800 - noise and HWSetup does not start

I use a Portege M800-116 under XP - SP3.
Problem 1:
Connection Line-Out to a stereo system and play music with Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on battery.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, a whistle loud high frequency and UM static disrupts the experience.Problem 2:
Files WAV or MP3 recording with internal or external microphone produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency noise and hum static.

My M800 is one not only of poor quality - it's plain unusable.Problem 3:

I m not Portege M800 owner so I can t he test for you, but I think that if the problem occurs only when the AC adapter is connected, it s a grounding problem
You have 3-pin or 2-pin AC/DC adapter?
As far as I know in this case you need 3-pin AC/DC adapter and power cord.You should ask an ASP in your country. Guys can order a new AC/DC adapter and check your laptop to what the problem is exactly.

Why you want to disable SpeedStep? I mean that's a feature and not a bug ;)
SpeedStep can improve the performance of your laptop, because the CPU will be a little more overclocked card motherboard/BIOS if you run programs of high CPU usage. So that s niceIf you want to disable, you must do in Windows power management if you can find t such an option in the BIOS.
