I want to delete my Outlook Express 6 program from my computer.  I don't want no more of this program.  I now use XFinity E-mail and Outlook gets in my way when I train to attach attachments and other things.  How to remove Outlook Express 6 program from my computer?

OE is integrated with XP so you cannot remove it. In the control panel. Add/Remove programs. Add/Remove Windows components, uncheck OE to remove access to it.

Note that if you use Xfinity Webmail, if you try a right click on a file and send to | Recipient of the message, you will get an error message saying: there is no default e-mail program. Webmail is not recognized when you perform this action. You will need to open a new message window, and then attach the file.

In addition to the problem that is described in this article with temporary files, Outlook Express can have an empty message, if Internet Explorer is configured to display, coding for automatic selection. If so, disable the automatic selection in Internet Explorer and choose rather Western European (ISO). If your program has an option to read HTML messages as plain text, the HTML version of the message may appear as an ATT0001. HTM attachment (the number may vary).

Outlook Express messages are hidden there not displaying not new messages

Try to go to view | Current view | Show all messages and do not check the chat messages.

If its possible that there is corruption of the Inbox and the user can move all messages from the Inbox to another folder created by the user and then close OE and delete the inbox.dbx file.  OE will create a new.

  • My Outlook Express messages are saved as .ids please help

After getting a virus tds, I tried to backup my Outlook Express messages by copying the identities under the application data folder. The problem is that in the exact folder where Outlook Express said that it stored the messages that I have 3 files with the correct names: Inbox, saved etc. but extensions are .ids NOT .dbx and the files are only about 1 KB. My Oulook Express reinstalled does not recognize these files and rename the .dbx does not help. Of course since they only about 1 KB of real data probably isn't there somehow. So even if Outlook Express has actually done this folder as folder where it was stored, is it possible that my messages were stored somewhere else, under data of demand or they are lost forever? I will state that I have no file .dbx anywhere!

    Tina.

    Do this first:

Select Show files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

Now, do a search and look for *.dbx

Don't you think that all dbx files that are not part of your new message store folder? Note the location and after return.

I use Outlook Express messaging in Windows XP. Display Hebrew characters of the name of the sender and the subject? and the body of the message often appears in giberish (I guess it's ASCII). My ' READ' international property is Euro (ISO), West it is grayed and I have no option to Western Euro (Windows), (no drop-down option). My "send " is OK, I had a choice, and it's on (windows).

  • A message from problem Outlook Express crashes, cannot remove

When I get a message from problem in Outlook Express, marked with a blue "down arrow" which means a low priority, it crashes Outl. Expr. so I can't post it, remove it, or anything.  I have to close Outl. Exp. and reopen it and avoid to come to her.  I received another message from the same retailer online with the same arrow and was able to remove it, but this one puts me.  I tried connecting with the email client in Windows 7 on my wife's cell phone to see if I could delete it, but he apparently left the server.  It seems therefore that the message has disappeared, but still in my Inbox.  How can I get rid of him?

Turn off the preview pane so that when you select, OE try not to make it.  Then hold down Shift as you remove them.  It should disappear. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

Cannot access Outlook Express all of a sudden.  I can't move in my messages even remove.  I get through my messages on my laptop but not my PC. Why he would just this work to quit smoking?

Please explain. Unable to access OE does mean that you can not open it. If you can not open OE, then of course you cannot move or delete messages.

If you can not open OE all, see this.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it's the default main identity. File | Identity | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

  • Problem with Outlook Express "Message has not been downloaded."

I'm having a problem with emails and attachments removed once I open and view them.  More specifically, when I opened an e-mail message by using Microsoft Outlook Express 6 with an attachment, I am able to see the file and open the attachment.  However, when I go back to this same email one or two weeks later, I see the following is message "Message has not been downloaded" Outlook Express has not yet downloaded this message. »

Please let me know what is the cause for this.  I have very important emails that have disappeared.

In more of Bruce's response, if you lost messages (and it seems you if messages do not appear) and then check your Inbox for a bak file is a backup of the dbx file that you can restore.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and see point 4 on retrieving the messages.  I suspect the problem is due to having interference from antivirus software because it is probably what causes this loss, then see item 3 on this page also, as noted in Bruce.

  • I get the error code 2691 code line 3 0 trying to recover items deleted in Outlook Express

The initial problem is that none of my messages in Outlook Express when I open any folder. My representative Easy Tech told me to try to recover my deleted messages and that's when I got the error message. Easy Tech then the rep told me it was a script error and told me to run Windows updates and that would fix the problem. He did not. Help, please.

If you can open OE, then go to file | Identities and setup a new identity. This will give you a store own message and a clean settings registry hive.   Then go to file | Import | Messages and import from the old identity.  If it works fine, so beware of interference antivirus (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3) and add your e-mail account to the new identity.  Then make a backup if you don't have it already.

  • cannot delete emails outlook Express 6.0

    Cannot delete emails

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

  • Conversion of Outlook, Outlook Express messages

I specified my own directory for the message Outlook Express (.dbx) files. Now I can't convert them in a tp of .pst files transfer to my new Windows 7 laptop. When I try to export, nothing happens.

I don't have a direct response to your export problem, but you still have access to Outlook Express? If you do, you can create a Windows folder on the desktop and drag the messages in an OE folder to it. Open Outlook and drag messages from the desktop folder to an Outlook folder.

Outlook express 6 does not work anymore so I went to windows live mail, but I keep getting error messages re; Outlook express, even if I do not use it. How can I get rid of error messages?

You are welcome. If you ever want difficulty OE, you need not to be able to access first.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. The path to the message will be very similar to this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

Simply deleting Folders.dbx and OE should open after that.
