Disconnect Linux guests and Windows in Win7x64 host of sound

I use a Dell OptiPlex 790 integrated with audio.

Periodically a Windows prompt, or every time I try to use audio on Linux hosts, I get the "error opening audio device 0:  "A device ID has been used that is out of range of your system.  Sound will start disconnected. "

(I don't have a control panel RealTek).

On Win7x64 host:

I downloaded and installed the audio driver of Dell (Realtek, ATI?).

I disabled the ATI audio device high definition in the host and activated exclusive reading.  I also disabled the two microphones in sounds.

Who took care of the issue of Windows and my Win7x64 guest comments can now read the audio data without disconnecting.

However, the above has not set the same question on Linux.

Under Linux, I went my Gnome settings, under his and turned off the microphones, closed the window settings of her Gnome and re-connected the audio device to the default sound in the virtual machine host.  That will allow me to hear the chirp in Linux system.  However, whenever I try to open the application of Gnome sound settings, or to say an audio app like Audacity, sound disconnects with the original error.

There must be a solution out there.  Surely, after all these years people report these problems, some must have found an answer?

Finally found the answer to my problem.  I have uninstalled the Realtek software and disabled audio all output devices.  Then I restarted and connected via USB a SoundBlaster X - fi Go! Adapter audio pro.  The software is installed on my host, rebooted it, and then reset all the guests computer virtual for the audio device by default.  Now, all of my guests, so Windows or Unix play sounds.

  • Linux host freezes with 10.0.6 Workstation and Windows 7 comments

    Hello

    I am now quite desperate because it is really preventing me from doing my job.

    I deleted Windows and I installed a fresh Kubuntu 14.04.02 (LTS) with 64 bit under my desk. I also installed VMWare Workstation 10.0.6 to run my development machines. I am now having serious problems:

    Every now and then, my full host is the gel if I'm running a Windows 7 virtualized on my workstation. The mouse only moves very slow and all the windows are very (!) slow response. My CPU monitor list all 4 CPU to 100%. If I managed to open the monitor system (or top on the console), I can see that vmware-vmx and kwin burn most of my CPU resources. If I wait 10 seconds to a minute, the system becomes usable. Now CPU goes down to normal. But as soon as I start to move a window (any one), the thing is happening again.

    Symptoms in short:

    • HOST: Linux Kubuntu 14.04.02 (x 64) on Intel i5 CPU with 8 GB of RAM and running on SSD (ext4).
    • COMMENTS: Several Windows 7 (x 32) several software running. Assigned 1 CPU and 1 GB of RAM. It comes on several guest computers.
    • Every now and then, all my CPU taking nearly 100% 4. The host CPU is used by vmware-vmx and kwin (used above) processes. Sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes directly after turning on the prompt. No idea on reason.
    • Host of mouse, Windows, and OS works very very slow.
    • Meanwhile, Windows 7 virtual machine is inactive! Energy saving or screen saver are all off!
    • If I manage to run Taskmanager guests, I don't see an action (sometimes TaskManager itself using 60% of CPU!). Looks to me that the host is down, not comments!
    • My host is running an SSD (256 GB).
    • VM log file does not show something during this phase.
    • VMware.log attached.

    What I tried:

    • I disabled 'Accelerate 3D' for all my virtual machines.
    • I have re-installed VMWare Tools on the guest computers.
    • I run VMWare workstation with vblank_mode = 0/usr/bin/vmware
    • I recreated the machine with less hardware as possible and recharged the .vmd.
    • I converted to virtual prior to the current format format disk image (VMWare asked me to the front step, I said 'yes').
    • I have inserted a separate network card (NIC) and disabled the network card that is embedded in the BIOS.
    • I disabled the onboard graphics in the BIOS and added a card NVIDIA GeForce 8400 PCIx16 (using NVIDIA binary drivers provided by Kubuntu).
    • I removed the CD-ROM of the virtual, Audio computer, diskettes and any unused material.
    • I have tried using cpulimit strangle vmware-vmx and kwin on my host, but without success. System remains unusable in this situation.

    No success at all.

    Is there anything else I can do to put my environment in a productive state? You can imagine that this always happens in the worst situations :-(

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    I found this page:

    Disqus - Arch Linux becomes insensitive to khugepaged

    It seems that this did the trick!

    I ran (as root):

    never echo >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag

    madvise echo >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag

    Since then, everything works fine. :-)

  • Secondary disk between Linux and Windows guests share

    Hi guys,.

    I have a requirement to have a guest Windows and Linux comments share the same disk (formatted in NTFS) and the two systems need full access to the shared file system.

    What I've read, it is possible in some cases, such as the Windows Server cluster.

    Has anyone tried this with Linux and Windows?

    Thank you

    What I've read, it is possible in some cases, such as the Windows Server cluster.

    Windows uses a cluster without sharing, wherever a single node has access on the drive shared at the same time. Microsoft does not support concurrent access to an NTFS file system, with the exception of Hyper-V.

  • Free virtualization software takes supported Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system?

    People,

    Hello. I need to install the Windows 7 host virtualization software, and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

    VMware Workstation supports Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system, but it's not free download.

    People know that supports virtualization software free Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system invited?

    Thanks in advance.

    As I said in your previous post, VMWare Player is a free download and does not support Win7 as host and Win2k3 as a guest.  VMWare Player is also included with VMWare Workstation, you can imply that most of the time something that supports VMWare Workstation as a guest operating system is also a guests supported for the reader.

    And unlike previous versions, player 3 includes the ability to create virtual machines base.  For many people, especially those who are starting just in virtualization, player is sufficient.

    VMWare Workstation, although not free, can be installed as a 30 day trial.  After the trial, you can not start your virtual machines in my computer, but because the player is included in the installation, you can still run your virtual machines in the drive without having to uninstall anything.  So just install Workstation.  After the trial expires, if you wish that the advanced features of the workstation, then buy it.  If not, just continue to use the drive.

  • What support VMware Windows 7 as a guest host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system operating system?

    People,

    Hello.

    Because my laptop is preinstalled Windows 7 and cannot dual boot multiple operating systems. I need to install VMware in Windows 7 host and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

    I installed VMware Server 2.0.2 in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 operating system as a guest host. Everything works fine for a while. But VMware Server Home Page https://mylaptop:8333 / IU cannot display more.

    I found that Windows 7 is not a host for VMware Server 2 and strange operating system might happen at any time. I found that 'VMware Player 3' is fully supported in Windows 7 as host operating system but is not taken in charge of Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

    People knows what product VMware Windows 7 support as host operating system and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system prompted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

    IMHO, I think that Workstation is the vmware product just for you, the requirements

    It supports Windows 7 as a facilitator and Windows 2003 as a host with no problems. You can be confident about it at 100%.

    Best wishes / Saludos.

  • DHCP server on a VM guest that is connected to a router (in AP mode) works on the host Linux (Fedora), but not on the host Windows (XP)

    I'm in dual boot Fedora and Windows XP, and configure a server vmware 2.0.0 122956 on both.

    Here is my config:

    Internet - Modem - vm_gw - vmnet1 (host) - vm_dhcp - router Wireless ADSL - computers laptops

    There are two physical network adapters on my host.  On the virtual machine that connects to the internet (vm_gw), I have one of the network adapters physical bridge (as vmnet0) to dial the ADSL modem and set up a network of hostonly (vmnet1) share the internet connection of the VM on the host and other virtual (vm_dhcp) computer.  On the virtual machine which also shares the internet connection to a wireless (vm_dhcp), I fill the other physical network (like vmnet2) adapters to connect to a router (in AP mode) and have a configuration of DHCP server on it and set up a hostonly (vmnet1) network to get its internet connection of vm_gw.

    I installed proper routing on my host computer and two virtual machines and this config works very well on my Fedora host.  However, the DHCP installation part does not work on my Windows XP host computer.

    The difference between my host Fedora and XP is on Fedora host, can I have two network adapters physical activated with a config 'empty' (to use DHCP or static) as in:

    DEVICE = eth0

    HWADDR = 00:11:22:33:44:55

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    and

    DEVICE = eth1

    HWADDR = 55:44:33:22:11:00

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    And there is no conflict on the physical network adapters between the host and the virtual machines.

    However, on XP host, I HAVE to configure the network adapters physical to use DHCP or static.

    If I place the physical network adapter (on the XP host) who will fill to vm_dhcp using DHCP, it will get an IP address from the wireless router and the DHCP server on vm_dhcp doesn't seem to be able to 'find' the wireless router and assign an IP address that him.

    Then I tried to configure the physical network card to use the static IP address (and assign it a fictitious IP address e.g. 192.168.123.1/255.255.255.0) to see if it would work, but it does not work either.

    Then I also tried to "simulate" the 'empty' network on Fedora config using regedit and delete (192.168.123.1/255.255.255.0) IP address on the network config and it does not work.

    Well, I'm out of ideas and I came here as a last resort.  Any suggestion/discussion is welcome.

  • VMware in network bridge: Freezed host with WS6.5 and Windows Vista x 64 or Windows 7 x 64 host operating system

    Hello

    I have a problem with VMware Workstation 6.5 on 64-bit Windows host.

    First, I installed VMware Workstation 6.5.0 118166 on my x 64 Windows Vista SP1 host, and I had a weird problem when working with network on my host system, no matter there is a guest running or not. The problem is when I try to connect/disconnect from VPN connections or plug/unplug my network from my LAN socket cable, etc., host OS freezes suddenly with no answer to anything whatsoever, no movement of the mouse, without strikes, nothing.

    After sometimes, I installed Windows 7 Beta 7000 x 64 on my computer and have no problem with it until I installed VMware Workstation 6.5.0 118166 on it: the gel problem once again. I thought it may be a problem on this specific build of VMware, so I downloaded and installed the latest version (6.5.1 126130) on my system, but the problem persists.

    After playing with a large number of settings, I find that if I delete the service "VMware Bridge Protocol" of my network card, the problem does not happen.

    I searched the forum but I can't find anything like that, so I wonder if anyone can help me with that?

    My network card is an edge ' Realtek RTL8168B/8111 Family PCI - E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) b ' on my card mother Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3.

    Which driver version you have installed for your network (NIC) card?   This link shows a version of driver Vista/Win2008 6.216 (dated 2009/02/26) available.  The same driver should work as well for Win7.

    If the above does not resolve the problem, view the properties for the NETWORK adapter and temporarily disable all 'Task Offload"or other characteristics"discharge"to see if that helps.

    Active host computer is Lenovo W550s running CentOS 7.1.  Camera works very well in host in CentOS in the cheese.  As a removable device, it appears as "Chicony Camera integrated".  But appears later in the guest PC Window 7 Professional.  VMware Tools in the comments are the latest version, now for VMware Workstation Pro 12.

    Any chance install USB driver for camera (not found), so not excited to get 'virtual camera' to work.

    Built-in laptop webcam shows as a "Webcam Chicony HP HD"

    Right-click the menu actions.

    After selecting the connection (unplug the host)

    When the guest saw the unit it is passed to Windows Update to search for a driver... and he did take a few minutes... but he was installing finally successfully.

  • running Linux rather than Windows as host

    Hello

    I'm trying to start learning of VMware and I wonder which version of the operating system, it is best to run it as a host for VM workstation? Inside of the workstation, I'll run 2 instances of ESXi machines so I'll try to save some resources with Linux. Don't you think it's just if I install Linux instead of Windows 7? I really save you 1 GB of RAM, or not? (theoretically for 64-bit Linux, it's 384-512 MB of RAM and Windows 7, it's nearly 2 GB of RAM)

    The bottom line is made the effort running Linux rather than Windows is worthing? Because it's a pain even with Linux.

    Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Catalin

    I think that you run your host operating system with what you are comfortable with.  My choice would be Windows 7 x 64.  ESXi running as a virtual machine in my computer would work fine, just follow a few best practices recommendations.
