Do I need a special cable to transfer data using Easy Transfer?

I want to use Windows Easy Transfer to copy all my important files and folders and Favorites on a Seagate external hard drive.

Is this possible?

I tried to download Easy Transfer for my Dell Dimension E 310 and I continued to get the... lack of compatibility error messages?

Hi aapup,

Thanks for posting. There is a cable easy transfer that you can use. Please visit the link below to learn more about the features available with Easy Transfer.

  • Cavio external HD Basics - need special cable?

    Hello

I just got a brand-new Basics Canvio 500 GB, and, despite I have read on many questions about the USB connection and stability, I'll just say that after a few days, I meet no particular problem, but I have a question.

I tried borrowed drive, next to the help of the supplied cable with it, also with:

    -A standard 'A to Micro-B' cable Superspeed
-One standard USB 2.0 Type a microphone cable

It's because I keep the same cable connected to my PC (which has currently only USB 2.1 connections) and use it to different USB devices.

Now, the Toshiba drive is having problems with both of them (intermittent loss of connection, slow/jerkyness data transfer and so forth).
A Western Digital external hard drive works perfectly with the two cables mentioned above, next to his own.

So, the question is, the Canvio Basics needs special cables to work properly and, if so, if I need a replacement, where can I find a cable that is certified to work correctly with him or is totally compatible anyway?

Thank you very much in advance,
    Mario

The answer found myself... After about a month the HD's * very * slowly.

Keep the CAP pulled upwards or downwards made increases responsiveness and many disk, but of course this is not an option... so, I guess I've fallen in the infamous master default known HD, different cables, I tried data transfer are not guilty.

Very sad... it is a product with very evil genius, apparently. About 70 euros ready for the trash. I really feel scammed.

Not here anymore Toshibas, WD here I come...

  • How to connect a portable laptop Windows 8 with Windows 7 computer via Ethernet cable and transfer the data directly?

I have a laptop Windows 8 . I want to connect to a new round of windows 7 and transfer the data at least 8 MB/s.

Please send me the procedure to follow. I don't want to share Internet, but want to transfer data.

You can do this, but you need a special type of Ethernet cable called a crossover cable.  This means the son in the swap position cables so that "send" and "receive" the computer two plugs can communicate.

  • Do I need a special DVD to install windows on my Satellite A200?

    Hello

I want to do a new install of windows 7 and erase the old partition Vista in my laptop Toshiba Satellite A200 - 13 M.
Do I need a special DVD Toshiba (with some drivers to this topic perhaps...) or I can do it with a regular DVD of windows 7. The master boot record will automatically create when I install windows 7?
Sorry for the newbie question, but I want to be 100% sure I'm not doing something wrong before deleting the partition my computer vista.

    Thanks for your help!

Your laptop comes with Vista and with your laptop you have Vista recovery DVDs or a recovery mabe saved on the HARD disk image. I put t know exactly.

To install Windows 7, you have original Microsoft Windows 7 installation disc. You can not order original Toshiba Windows 7 for this old model of laptop recovery disk.

Install Windows 7 using Microsoft disk. Install all the necessary drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities one by one afterwards.

It is recommended to backup your data before departure, which, in case of accident, still have access to your data.

If your PC supports bitlocker, it is recommended that you encrypt your hard drive with bitlocker.

  • Using Easy Transfer of Win 7 PC to another Win 7 PC with 1 single monitor

II want to transfer files and settings on a PC running Windows 7 SP1 to another PC running the same operating system. I have only 1 monitor. How to make the transfer with 1 single monitor?  If I can do it with 1 monitor PC must be connected to the monitor? Or what I have to go back between the 2 PC's? Thank you. (Stupid question, I guess, but I need some advice).

    Hi Harry,.

Yes, you can use a system image to transfer the data.

However, Windows Easy Transfer is a software assistant to transfer files and settings from one computer running Windows to another. You can transfer data from one user or multiple user accounts profile. Easy transfer Windows application will help you choose what to move to your new computer, you can set the transfer method to use and then performs the transfer. Once the transfer is done, Windows easy transfer reports displays what was transferred and provides a list of programs that you can install on your new computer, as well as links to other programs you can download.

With Windows Easy Transfer, files and settings can be transferred using a network, a flashdrive USB (UFD), or the easy transfer cable. However, you cannot use a regular universal serial (USB) bus cable to transfer files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer. You can buy a cable to transfer files on the Web, the manufacturer of your computer, or at an electronics store.
    noteNote
You can't use Windows Easy Transfer to move program files. Windows Easy Transfer can move only data and program settings. You must then install your software on the new computer.

Windows Easy Transfer, also, does not transfer any system files such as fonts and drivers. To do this, you must install custom and updated fonts to update drivers in Windows 7.

Use the Microsoft Windows User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0 to automate migration during large deployments of the Windows 7 operating system. For more information about the USMT, see the User State Migration Tool 4.0 (usmt.chm) Help documentation installed with the Windows AIK, or see this Microsoft Web site.
Prepare for migration on the destination computer

To start Windows easy transfer on the destination computer, follow these steps:

    1. close all active programs.

    2. click on start, click principally made programs, accessories, click System Tools, and then click Windows Easy Transfer.

The Windows Easy Transfer window opens.

    3. click on next.

    4. Select the method to use to transfer files and settings from your old computer.

    5. click on this is my new computer.

    6. click on that I need to install it now.

    7. Select the destination media on which you want to store the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard files. You can store the files to an external hard drive or a network drive Wizard, or you can store it on a USB key.

A browse to folder window opens.

    8. type a path and a folder name in which you want to store the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard files, and then click Next.

    * Method 1: Transfer files and settings using a USB cable

    * Method 2: Transfer files and settings using a network

Method 2: Transfer files and settings using a network

    1. start Windows Easy Transfer on the computer from which you want to migrate settings and files by browsing to the removable media or network drive containing the wizard files, and then double click on migestup.exe. The program can also start automatically when you insert the removable media.

    2. click on next.

    3. click on a network.

    noteNote
Both computers must support the transfer method you choose. For example, the two computers must be connected to the same network.

    4. click on this is my old computer.

    5. follow the steps to enter the key of Windows Easy Transfer on your new computer to allow network connection.

    6. on your new computer, after entering the Windows Easy Transfer key, click Next.

A connection is established and Windows Easy Transfer checks the updates and compatibility.

Click transfer to transfer all files and settings. You can also determine which files should be migrated by selecting only the user profiles that you want to transfer, or by clicking Customize.

    7. click close once Windows Easy Transfer has completed migrating files and settings to the destination computer.

Method 3: Transfer files and settings using removable media or a network share
Copy the files from the source computer

    1. start Windows Easy Transfer on the computer from which you want to migrate settings and files by browsing to the removable media or network drive containing the wizard files, and then double click on migsetup.exe.

    2. click on next.

    3. click on an external hard drive or USB key.

    noteNote
Both computers must support the transfer method you choose. For example, both computers must be supported the same type of removable media.

    4. click on this is my old computer. Windows Easy Transfer scans the computer.

    5. click on next. You can also determine which files should be migrated by selecting only the user profiles that you want to transfer, or by clicking Customize.

    6. enter a password to protect your file transfer file, or leave the box blank, and then click Save.

    7. navigate to the location on the network or removable media where you want to save your easy transfer file, and then click Save.

    8. click Next. Windows Easy Transfer displays the file name and location of the file Easy Transfer that you just created.

Copy files to the destination computer

    1. connect the removable media to the new computer.

    2. start Windows Easy Transfer and then click Next.

    3. click on an external hard drive or USB key.

    4. click on this is my new computer.

    5. click Yes, open the file.

    6. navigate to the location where the transfer file was saved. Click on the name of the file and then click Open.

    7. click transfer to transfer all files and settings. You can also determine which files should be migrated by selecting only the user profiles that you want to transfer, or by clicking Customize.

    8. click close once Windows Easy Transfer completed moving your files.

  • Windows 7 Pro. Using Easy Transfer

    How to use easy transfer

    Good question:

I used Windows Easy Transfer at least a hundred times - literally.  It works very well.  I've never had it mess up a system.  It takes time to run and could be hours if you have a lot of data.   So please be patient.

Please understand at the outset that the DATA is what is transferred.  Applications or programs must be installed separately on the new system.  It is best if you first install the applications.

WET gathers all DATA from specific locations on the old system, as well as all custom settings that you use from the old computer and produces a great big file that is stored on an external drive.  Then when you connect this same external drive to the new computer and run WET and identify yourself as a new, it copies all data in the right places.

WET is a very good program.  However, hedge your bets and make a backup of the data from the old also.

The Acronis program that you are probably referring is something completely different.  He makes an exact copy of the drive installed in the old that you can then copy to the new computer drive.  IT WOULD BE A BIG MISTAKE!  Big mistake because all the drivers and related to the new computer software would be replaced by the bad stuff from the old.  That imaging process is better used on the new computer before loading your programs or data.  The image is an insurance policy that can be used to re - build your computer should it become irreparably damaged or you need to replace the hard drive.

I hope it's clear.  If this is not the case, just ask.

  • Can I use easy to get my old C: files/settings transfer?

My desktop XPSP3 is dead, but the hard drive is always good and is mounted in a USB enclosure attached to a new office with Windows 7 Home Premium. Can I use Easy Transfer on the new desktop to get my files and settings from the old drive XPSP3?  If so, how?  Thank you.

No, you will need to copy them manually.

You may need to take possession of some of the folders:

Windows 7 take ownership & grant permissions to access files & folder

To copy and paste a file:

    1. Open the location that contains the file you want to copy.

    2. Right click on the file and then click on copy.

    3. Open the location where you want to store the copy.

    4. Right-click on an empty space within the location and then click on paste. The copy of the original file is now stored in the new location.

For more information about copying multiple files, see select multiple files or folders.

    Tips

    • Another way to copy and paste files is to use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C (copy) and Ctrl + V (paste).

    • You can also press on and hold the right mouse button and drag the file to the new location. When you release the mouse button, click on copy here.

    • You can copy and paste a folder in the same way as you would a file. When you do this, all the files in the folder are also copied.

  • an iPhone 5s cable charger can be used on an iPhone 4S

I used a my iPhone 4S cable charger on someone of another iPhone 5s.  Now my charger cable does not work.  It's probably too bad?  Stores are closed tomorrow because it's a day holiday here and my phone is low in the battery.

IPhone 5 s charger cable allows charge and iPhone 4S?

When the shops are open on Tuesday I go to solve the problem.

    concerning

    Jake

Your original question answered on the use of the iPhone cable.  iPhone 4S cable charger can be used on an iPhone 5 s  IPhone 5 s is a lightning cable, and iPhone 4S uses a 30 connector pins. To use for each other, an adapter must be used. While it would be rather strange that he stop work could lead to the use of the cable with other devices, everything is possible. You can make an appointment on the Apple Store to have the cable looked at, and if it is under 1 year and found damaged and not corrupted user, Apple should replace it.
