DST and vmware view = weird questions

This is the 3rd time that when the time comes or goes we get questions of kind of weird in our very frequent floating pools, VMs stuck in starting up, wait for connection etc.

If you look at the log below you will see that the virtual machine has been one hour before, and then she came back at the right time.

Anyone else seen elsewhere?

I was on the phone with VMware for 5 hours Tuesday last with this same problem.  I ended up solving the problem without their help.  You must initialize your model, let the time updated, shut it down, take a new snapshot and recompose your pool.

  • Level of encryption between Wyse ThinOS and VMware View desktop

Can someone help me determine the level of encryption between my Wyse thin clients and virtual desktops.

I use the latest Wyse ThinOS and VMware View connection Server 4.0.

I have a manual desktop pool configured with things THAT RDP disabled. I'm also using smart card authentication.

With direct disabled RDP is a configuration of SSL tunnel for the connection to the server and the RDP session to the virtual desktop by tunnel through this SSL connection?

Yes that's right, although strictly that you should say server/connection security as if you use a security server, then this is endpoint of the tunnel rather than the CS.

  • Wyse V10L with WTS 6.3 and VMware View show

Hi, just got the WTS 6.3 Wyse today and upgraded a V10L. Then entered the IP of our server VMware View, that meets our OK thin client device and presents us with a nice box of connection of VMware. I then enter my login details and I get the error "No. SUPPORT TUNNEL '...

I can plug directly into the virtual machine in question using RDP in Wyse client, so assume its something to do with the SSL through the broker. Disabled the requirement for SSL and changed my broker on the device of Wyse http://x.x.x.x, (instead of https)-same error.

Has anyone else seen elsewhere, or have any idea what is the problem?

    Hello

Open the view administrator, select your display server, click on edit and activate (direct connection on the desktop)

This is because the customer of Wyse ThinOS with does not have components of tunneling.

You will need the option direct conect. The thin client connects to the Server View, authenticated, get its information session and after which connects via RDP directly on the desktop.

    Thank you

  • Unidesk and VMware View

Hi, can someone please tell me their experience with Unidesk? We are planning to test it, but I was wondering what other users have to say about it. What are the pros and cons in your opinion on the use of unidesk with VMware View?

    Thank you

While you're good at using a floating pool, so remove the value from the user customization layer, you still earn many benefits.

    1. you get always keep exactly 1 gold image of the operating system.

    2. you always deploy the applications in the form of layers.

    3. you still get storage savings.

I would like to add a fourth: the machines date back to default when to disconnect users.   In any pool of floating type, you will have some sort of data instead of roaming solution.   Gone perhaps roaming profiles and folder redirection of strictly MS background, or a solution that either, so there is no loss of functionality as the users are concerned.   As someone who has 15 years of dealing with those terminal services and support model office, let me tell you that I would've liked nothing more than a system that will automatically return to the original state at each reboot.

I have a floating pool on "VMs Unidesk" I use for purposes of remote access for all and for our standard users in the office.   I have all basic applications we use loaded in it.   I use the folder redirection to send Documents, the desktop, Favorites and more downloads to our storage system, then have MS profiles configured for an ORGANIZATIONAL unit containing these roving machines.   AppData is basically all that is stored on the sharing profile, so user logons are super fast.   I even turned on Microsoft EU - V, which is so smooth, I just laugh whenever I see it working (essentially saved application configs in repository as XML files and pulls / pushes them back when applications are open, closed, etc..)   UE - V lets my PC full users to have their applications, such as their desktop themes settings or something else, fill in the VDI environment automatically, which gives a more consistent experience across devices.

In any case, don't throw all this just because you won't get the layer customization user on floating pools.   There's always a ton of advantages with it...

  • VMware View - provisioning question of desktop computers

I'm new to VMware View and just build a my QA cluster environment.  I have installed/configured view administrator on a dedicated virtual machine and installed/configured on my server vCenter composer.  I created a gold statue (called, joined the domain, configured custom parameters, view agent installed) and converted to a model. Then, I created a pool on my server administrator to view and added 10 desktop computers.  They have all implemented successfully, however, they all have the same computer name (same name, I named the machine of the gold statue).  The machines that appear in VMware show the naming convention that I created, but the internal computer name is the same for all. I guess that the DNS name.  also, I can have these machines added to the announcement through this process or do they need to be predefined?

Customization = None seems to be the reason. When we customize him clone all the related machine settings are kept from the model VM, which are the name of the Machine, machine SID, the work/domain group settings, etc. That's why you see Office all the same names as those given to the model. You can create a customization specification in the CR. Instructions to create a file of customiztion specifications in vCenter can be found at:

    http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-4-esx-vcenter/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.vmadmin.doc_41/vsp_vm_guide/deploy_vms_from_templates_and_clones/t_create_a_customization_specification_for_windows.html

Use this technique of customization when you create the pool. Hope that helps.

Exactly THAT PCOIP do not work on the Security server.  If your using VPN and connect to a broker internal conection it should work good as new NAT could shake things.    Should be a simple test however.

  • Two monitors configured using PCoIP does not cover both monitors for VMware View

Occasionally, I've experienced the symptoms described in KB1027899, when usually the first time of connection for the day that I select multiscreen and the screen is divided in the Middle the 2 monitors using PCoIP. I end up disconnecting and reconnecting to the virtual machine a few times, which is a valid solution, but I'm still curious about why this is happening.

I am running VMware View 5.0.0 build-481677, on a Wyse R90L with Windows XP Embedded, I use VMware View Client 5.0.0 build 481677 and VMWare View agent on a box of Windows 7 5.0.0 build 481677. We lack vCenter and ESXi 5.0.0 in all areas as well.

According to the article, this happens because there is not enough video memory configured for the virtual computer. The problem I have is that if I force the pool offices use PCoIP and 128 MB of video memory, I can't RDP to the workstation as the Protocol is locked, I need to still be able to do. I tried manually increase the memory video, but view reconfigures to match the settings of the pool.

Is there a way to increase the video memory without changing the required logon Protocol? Or is there a fix in a different way to this question?

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Joe

Have you tried to change the configuration video pool to be 2 monitors with 2560 x # instead of the default resolution to see if that solves the problem?

  • VMware VI3, VMware View with Novell eDirectory integration

    Hello

We are a COMPUTER consulting company and we have a lot of colleges and universities using Novell looking at VMware VI3 and VMware VIew.

    (1) for VMware VI3 tabs of permissions must be able to connect to an LDAP server to Active Directory only.

    (2) for VMware VIew 3, the VMware Agent should be integrated into the Novell Client for Windows...

We did a little proof of concept with VMware View, and each time that the Novell Client are causing a lot of problems with VMware View Agent. It's bad because these 2 projects has been more than 10000 thin clients. They decided to Citrix XenDesktop used instead.

It'll be great if you can built your product with the architecture of Novell.

It is a known problem that has been fixed in 5.3.2 view - the global time-out in minutes is converted to a time in milliseconds, which then overflows a 32-bit counter. See Overview of VMware View Release Notes

A desktop session is timeout and be disconnected after about 24 days, 20 hours and 31 minutes, even if the Session time-out setting has been set to a higher value.

  • Native integration with VMware View

I'm evaluating the access (without client) browser based virtual destops with Ericom AccessNow for VMware View software.

Please find diagram of connection planned for use in the attached file.

Does anyone has tried to do already?

What is the best practice to integrate native and VMware View?

Where can I find the rules of firewall used in the integration of product?

Are there security issues with access by browser-based virtual desktops?

    Thank you much in advance.

In general, we do not see a lot of native discussion here, so maybe this isn't the best place for this post.   You can try this http://communities.vmware.com/people/AdamG53 guy has sent a private message because he used to work for the natives.   I have not seen him active lately, so I don't know if it meets or not.

  • VMware View is over-equipped?

    Hello!

Having a small company of VMware View seems MUCH too complicated and overengineered. Can this be true?

I mean that the alternative is a pWindows machine to connect to a machine vWindows with mstsc.exe. I know it is not completely the same, but it is also very long path between a solution that works out-of-the-box and VMware View with much installation of the client OS, directory servers, see security, view connection server, server transfer from view, the slim viewers, tool view composer and General everything that is necessary to get this working.

And then it only works for Windows desktop computers. Using something like the console in vSphere client redirection is able to display all the OS' are - even Android!

(Ok! Forcing my employees to use for their daily work vSphere client would proberbly many resignations ;-)) but I is possible!

    Am I missing something here? I mean VMware-view-evaluators - Guide.pdf is 152 pages (!) - long 'mstsc.exe remoteserver' is just... a line?

Is there a simple solution for this. It's like building a spaceship to get a Coke to the nearest 7-11. It's 'just' a shutoff Holy crap! :-)

    Best regards

    -Green Morten Hermansen

Don't forget when you are dealing with 10-50 VM that is not for to be honest.

You see a company of 10 or 20 depending on what lines you have you can find a service provider where they can provide you with da (computer desktop as a Service) and which would reduce as much cost

I did a small deployment without costly storage and costly servers and the system worked well.

Then give the user a Zero-Client and boom!

If you mix vSGA (shared virtual Graphics Adapter) and vDGA (virtual Dedicated Graphics Adapter)

With vSGA you load the driver on the host (VIB) and enable x.org and don't use NOT of PCI Passthrough

With vDGA, you load the driver on the driver of comments (Standard Nvidia) and NO driver on the computer host and you use Passthrough.

I'm looking for a quick bit of help if possible please...

    Environment: VMware View 4.5

Two companies having a bond of trust between data transfer etc. and resources share. We need access to a site through their firewall in the bond of trust to connect to the VMware View VDI Office.  Customers using VMware View Client.

The question is, if we get the site to enable port 443 to our broker connection I assume this will not be enough?  It must be possible to:

    443 to connection broker

    32111 (redirect USB) to?

    9427 (multimedia redirection) to?

    4172 (PCoIP) to?

    3389 (RDP if used) to?

This may all sound a bit novicy but I need to be 100% before you go test.

    Thanks in advance.

So using the brokers of the connection in direct mode without any security server.   I think that it would look like this.

    443 to connection broker
