dv4-2040 boot up "there is no hard drive.

The other day when I tried to turn on my laptop, I got an error on startup:

NOT FOUND BOOT DEVICE

Please install an operating system on your hard drive.

Hard drive (3F0)

He then told me f2 for the diagnosis of the system and where to go for more information. I tried to start running and hard drive tests, but they all tell me that the hard drive does not exist. I can still use my recovery disks to reset the computer: I can't access Recovery Manager

I don't understand why this is happening, as only hours before this error, the computer worked perfectly. Can someone explain please what is happening and help me solve this problem? Thank you.

Hello

Sorry but I don't have good news. Your HARD disk is damaged.

If your model is still under warranty then please contact HP. How all the information here (just choose your country).

They replace them with a new.

If you can read the Microsoft Windows 7 of 25-character license key, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD or USB flash drive. The version must match that's installed on your PC as shown on the sticker COST Microsoft fixed on the bottom of the laptop. Like Windows Home Premium.

    Hello

I want to install XP, but it is said that there is no HARD drive. Already tried nLite, but no result. I have Satellite L40 - 17Q and I'm under Win. 7.
    What can I do?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

What SATA driver you have integrated with nLite? If Windows XP cannot always find a disk of t means that you used the wrong driver. The correct driver can be downloaded from the official website of Toshiba and you need the Intel Storage Manager.

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

If you have downloaded the correct driver, follow the instructions here and make sure that your version of XP SP3:

  • Satellite L50D - Boot problems after replacing the hard drive

I just upgraded my hard drive of the pathetic crod 5400 they provide to a SSHD@7200rpm, but now have a major issue.

I initially image the operating system from the old hard drive to the new drive and have had chronic start-up problems (1-3-4 attempts to start to succeed if it fails at any time (often to the Toshiba start screen)).

I reinstalled from a drive under Win 8.1 plain own ENT (trying to avoid the bloatware) and it is exactly the same number and is what I used to format the laptop very well with previously and had previously worked.

I tried reformatting and reinstalling (by removing all partitions on each attempt) to the CSM, unsafe UEFI and UEFI secure. MCS is a straight line never works not proceed and both UEFI methods have the same exact result.

I tried with original restore disks and it seems to work (not had time to fully test) but I don't want the bloatware and it shouldn't be serious since, if I were a customer who forgot to make restore disks (too often) and just have to have a failed hard drive or replaced sacrificed the laptop would be now a door stop.

This seems as bad as Apple to lock people in.

So I would appreciate ideas of people to please, I don't know if there is a program that is supposed to take place on a new drive as PS3 etc (I doubt it), but that leads me into the wall, and will be the last time that I consider Toshiba as anything other than a joke, if there is no solution.

I had to replace the hard disks many times in my previous Toshiba laptops and were devoid of this crod, it has something to do with UEFI which seems more a nuisance than a help right now.

    TIA.

    Hello

In my opinion, you should first check if the startup problem is related to the new installed HARD drive or new installed system.
You said that the laptop fails to start up often to the Toshiba start screen.

The splash screen appears during the POST (power on self-test) procedure. During this test, the material will be checked.
I m wondering if the hybrid SSD/HDD isn't recognised by the BIOS during this particular step.

From my point of few, this could be the reason why the system cannot be started.

    Another important note:
The 8.1 win requires enable start secure as well as the UEFI boot mode.
Therefore, you must enable both options in the BIOS.

Last but not least check if you are using the latest BIOS version as latest firmware for the hybrid SSD/HDD

  • 10 Windows run with boot camp to an external hard drive

    Hello

I have a MBP 13 "2015 i5 8 GB of Ram and 128 GB of storage, and I want to run windows 10 (for games) with boot camp (so if I'm right, OS X is off and Windows is on). I have parallels desktop and I can run windows 10 (located hard ext on my drive) but it is impossible to play with a virtual machine. So, I wonder if I can start and run windows 10 of my drive hard ext? I have only 128GB one my Mac using windows and OS X on it is impossible. Thanks for your help! (just to be clear: If you the solution works, if I disconnect my HDD ext all windows will be bug (or something like that)).

-Parallels Desktop (PD) is an application that manages a VirtualMachine (VM): this is a large file. PD can run at the same time as the OSX.

-Bootcamp is another partition on your hard drive where your Windows is running: it may not work with OSX, you start on the Windows partition or in the partition oSX; you do this partition and install Windows in there with the BootcampAssistant application. The BootcampAssitant can't do a Bootcamp Partition on an external drive as far as I know.

But f1 doesn't, f2 which brings back me to something that did not help me. I need help! Anyone? Thank you very much. Mr. Spence

    Hello Margo15,

If you assembled your PC yourself, this may happen because of the bad connection in your hardware.

    You can consult:
1 make sure your CDROM /dvdrom is properly connected.
    2. the hard drive is properly connected, make sure that there is no loose connection.
    3. Insert the CD of Installation of XP and reboot the PC to check again.

Is the usable hard drive prior to this install attempts or you install a new copy of XP into a new PC?

    Waiting for your response.

    Thank you and best regards.

  • Cannot detect the boot device after factory new HARD drive format

First of all, I have a HP Pavilion G6 I bought in December 2012. Yesterday, I decided to make a new record HARD to upgrade and start over. It is a hybrid SSD + HDD 1 TB of Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CD to make a factory disk formatting.

He finishes, reboot, but instead to restart the HP Windows 8 installation screens, he goes to what looks like Windows 8 course mode with a box containing the date, time and he said something in the sense of 'Installing the driver HP diagnostics' with an OK. By clicking on that or didn't disappear, and there is a command line bar in the lower left corner of the screen.

The screen becomes a HP screen that begins to install the drivers. It ends and restarts to a black screen that says "no boot device not detected, please install OS."

I did a disk check and that's fine. I swapped my reader, and it loads fine. In fact, it's what I use now for this type.

What could be the problem here? The boot order has never changed in the BIOs. If it was the faulty connector I doubt he would charge the reader who was always in the computer. Load disc newly formatted in an external case indicates that Windows 8 is indeed on this subject, but on a 93GB partition even if the disc is 1 TB.

I'm in a stalemate here, and nobody seems to know what to do!

It was indeed the hybrid propulsion system. I exchanged for a normal HARD drive and resetting factory completed without a hitch. It was the mistake on my part! I never guessed it would have been the problem.

  • Cannot boot from OS recovery Disc - hard drive again

    Hello.

I had some problems with my computer for a while.  This week it stopped starting up, so I ran diagnostics from the utility partition, and it seemed pretty clearly indicate that the hard drive had a few significant flaws.  This was not unexpected, and I have all my data backed up on an external drive, so I bought a new hard drive.

The problem I'm having now is that my system does not recognize my operating system recovery disk.

I made sure my CD player is set as a first priority and tried to force it in the start menu, but it is on a black background with a blinking cursor, or says "No Boot Device available"

I tried the drive in another computer, and I can read here very well.

I ordered a replacement from Dell recovery disk, but I don't know if there is anything else I should try.

    Any help is appreciated.

Yes, if the reader is made bootable.  See here:

  • no boot device after replacing the hard drive

    Hello world!

My laptop (MSI) has erupted recently in my face (Fried GPU seems).  As I had and liked (Acer laptop) which had a broken hard drive, I have supported up to my datas and replaced the hard drive of Acer (one broken) with that of my MSI (latest laptop)

When I start the computer I get the message no bootable device: "no boot device - insert boot disk and press any key any."

I am not very savvy computer science, but I feel that it is perhaps due to the version of Windows I was using: my Acer running on Windows 7, when my MSI will run on window 8.  Could someone confirm if this has something to do with the startup problem?

Here's what I managed to do or find on the problem.

When I go into the BIOS, I changed the order of precedence so that my hard drive is the first priority.

There is absolutely no USB or SD card in my computer from where he might try to start (unless he's trying to start from an empty?).

The BIOS is able to tell me the model and I installed the hard disk MSI series so I guess that it is able to detect the hard drive, but can not find startup data in it (that's why I think it's maybe because it isn't the same window).  In addition, the hard drive lights up when I start the computer (and he did it on the MSI laptop too).

Even if the hard drive seems to be detected, I always tried to unplug and reconnect it a few times to make sure it wasn't just a matter of bad connection.

On many web sites, they recommend taking any diet and empty any current computer before restarting: unfortunately I can not do because the Acer laptop has a battery that is not easily accessible as newer computer (it cannot be removed from the outside, I need to open the laptop to get it and it is so I can know what it look like and how to remove it)

My brother managed to recover data from hard disk of MSI with a USB device that plugs on it, so I don't think it's broken.

The computer is an Acer Aspire 5830TG.  Replaced hard drive is a toshiba MK6459GSXP (works on Windows 7) and the replacement is a WD7500BPVX - 22JC3T0

I want to apologize if my English contains errors, it is not my mother tongue :)

Please let me know if you need more information and I thank you for your help!

    Hello

You cannot move a hard drive with Windows 8 on it from a computer and put it in another machine that were previously running Windows 7 and expect it to work.

    It will not.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And even if it would work physically, legally you cannot transfer the license of Windows 8 of the MSI laptop Acer laptop to your situation:

    Read this information:

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

  • Satellite 855D-S5120 - wouldn't boot efi file on the HARD drive

I had no problem to boot from a usb port or a live cd in grub or gummiboot, but I was not able to do the same with the hard drive.

The NVRAM settings are not persistent. I was able to set a uefi shell using the two Jean efibootmgr or significant, but they are reset to zero when you restart.

I was able to initiate gummiboot out of USB by renaming the BOOTX64.efi file

My efi partition is fat32 and marked as boot-able. I understand that some implementations of UEFI aren't complete implementations by the UEFI specification. which I think is the case here.

Since the NVRAM apears does not have to be definable. I need to know where and what this implementation is looking for hard disk. Someone at - it the answer?

    Hello

I'm not sure that understand your problem.

You are installing a U/EFI OS on the HARD drive but is unable to do start?

I myself 13.04 successfully installed Ubuntu and Fedora 18/19, the start of UEFI.
Of course, the installers to take care of the difficult things for me so I know little about these details.

Please specify what you want to achieve, and let's see if I can be of any assistance.

  • Pavilion dv6-1030us: there is no hard drive

I have a dv6-1030us which today would not initialize, said that no boot device and the hard disk do not exist.  Works very well yesterday, without any hard disk problems.  I have the original recovery disks that I created when I got the machine.  When I put disc 1 one number, it says windows copies the files, then a status bar continuously appears above the copyright of microsoft thingy.  The status bar continues to flow as he do something and not going anywhere.  If I insert recovery disk number 2 nothing happens, even if I insert the disc number 2 and try to restart.  Any ideas or is it time to go shopping

It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. Laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 320GB hard drive you can use a 500 GB hard drive but not a hard drive of 250 GB. The main problem you will have to avoid is that latest hdds Advanced Format (AF) will cause major problems and probably a return for Vista recovery disks.

  • Satellite A10 won't boot up - bad sectors on HARD drive

    Hallo,

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A10
    Model No.: PSA10E-018EZ-DU

The problem is that you comp. won't start.
There are some areas of bad or damaged HD
I ran chkdsk a few weeks ago, it has helped but now there are still problems.
    If chkdsk is running again.
Is there a better program to check your HD or should I do something else?

    A new HD?
What kind of HD am I looking for?
is a HD for a nootbook oke?
Or are there restrictions for a HD satellite A10?

    http://www.csfolmer.nl

    HEY Kees,

There are other utilities that you can use to check your hard disk (Norton Disk Doctor for example) but CHKDSK is as good as all the others.

If you get repeated hard disk problems, then this is a good indication to a new hard drive. I suggest you try to backup your data even if you can't always. I'm not aware of any restrictions on the ability of any hard drive that you choose for your A10, but it must of course be the same as your existing drive form factor. You can also consider using a drive with a speed higher than the original drive.

    Kind regards

  • Aspire V3 - 571 won't boot past POST with installed HARD drive

I am a PC repair technician and work on computers for almost 20 years and this has me completely confused. My laptop Aspire V3-571-6643 was working fine until just recently. The show the Acer and the system will fit on screen, and then restarts immediately. He'll stay in this loop of reboot until stopped manually.

I cleaned and reinstall the RAM module and also tried in both slots without change. I was able to access BIOS and determined the readers and all parameters are correct and even reset to the factory settings without change. I then removed the HARD drive used in a docking station to determine if the drive was salvagable. Everything reads well and passed short and long tests through SeaTools. With the disk installed HARD, the system attempts to start on CD/USB, but after his withdrawal the system boots on a CD very well. I then ran a full scan using Eurosoft Pc Check and all is well. I reinstalled the HARD drive and get immediately the loop of reboot again.

At this point the motherboard and drive the two test very well independently but do not go to work together. My only guess is that the motherboard is no longer providing enough power for all components and crashing when the HARD drive try to launch at startup. Or the SATA controller is defective and only work for the STRANGE. Everyone knows this problem or have ideas of how to solve? My best guess is replaced to the needs of the motherboard, but I'm not sure that I have never seen it before.

I would check with another HARD disk, if possible, as I agree it is probably most associated MB but... worth a try.
