DVD drive broken on my laptop Satellite M35x

Hello

the CD - DVD drive on my laptop Satellite is apparently broken, and I've thought about buying a CD-DVD external drive and would appreciate help.
In case I have to re - install Windows, I'd be able to do this with an external CD drive, because I believe that I need to boot from the CD to start the reinstall, and I do not know if the laptop will "recognize" the external hard drive?

Thank you
Bob

As far as I know external optical disc drive will not be recognized and you will not be able to launch the installation of the OS. To be honest I don't understand why you prefer this external solution.
I don't know what model of laptop you have exactly, but optical drives for laptop are not expensive, especially for older models of laptops.

Almost every laptop can deal with several compatible readers and replacement is very simply. You can do this alone. So if you want to replace the drive to let know us what model of laptop do you have exactly.

  • How to use Recovery on satellite Pro L10 with DVD drive broken?

    Hello...

I have a satellite Pro L10, which is virused. I need to recover Windows. Unfortunately, I can not, because the CD/DVD drive is borked.

I tried everything until and including the purchase of a laptop adapter HD, but my desktop computer is not a Toshiba so he does not have the recovery disk.

I've never had to use a "recovery disk" before, so I have no idea how it works - apparently there should be a folder on my hard drive recovery? can someone tell me where I could find it? (I'm quite familiar with the innards of my installation of Windows and have never noticed before). Also, is it possible that this native recovery file has been compromised by my virus?

Default: can it be fixed using an installation of LAN, and if so, could someone point me to instructions? (My BIOS allows booting from LAN, but not USB, which is irritating).

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

    Thank you.

    Hello

First of all you will not be able to use the Toshiba Recovery disk if you cannot use the CD/DVD drive.
Why? Because you need to boot from the CD of recovery if you want to install windows from the CD from Toshiba.

You ask how to boot from LAN?
Well friend; I doubt that you will be able to do.
First of all that this could be possible only if you have a RIS server.
The Remote Installation Services can be installed optionally on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008.

It's really complicated and not easy for someone who has never done.
If you want you can google a little how to create REEFS but in my opinion it s advisable to buy and compatible CD/DVD drive because the STRANGE can also be used for other purposes

  • What CD/DVD drive is compatible with the Satellite A10 S103

I use the laptop Toshiba Satellite A10 S103 and I am about to replace the CD/DVD-ROM drive of origin by a new who can also write CDs and DVDs.

However, I got a notice, that after the installation of the new DVD to drive the "IDE #1 error" message may appear. According to my knowledge, this error can be avoided by replacing the old disk with a new one which requires the same Primary/Secondary Master/Slave/cable select settings like old.

Can you recommend a drive of DVD - RW which could replace the old DVD - ROM drive and would work without any additional adjustment of HW?
The new DVD - RW drive should be similar to know

However, I was not able to decide that if this device will be or does not work in my computer that I don't know the parameters of the original DVD.

My original Toshiba DVD drive information as follows:
    ' 1. ' "model SD-C2612
    2 "ROM worm." 1315
    3 'serial No.' 394N002659
    ' 4. ' 302 ' version number.

The computer is already out of warranty

You are right. FDI #1 error is displayed because the BIOS doesn't recognize the new internal CD/DVD drive because of the wrong master/slave/c-salt settings.
Usually, these settings are fixed and cannot be changed on the external sides with another position of the rider.
The firmware controls the notebooks internal parameters ODD.
The use of ratings taken in charge and compatible is so very important.

Sorry, but I didn t find details of compatible CD/DVD players.
Did you look in the user manual of your laptop series?

In my manual, I found some info on my laptop-compatible players.
So maybe you are a lucky man and your owner's manual will provide useful information.

    Hi Paul,.

You don't say what model of laptop you have, but generally speaking if you are using Windows XP then you will use the standard Microsoft drivers for your scanner.

However, you can Toshiba drivers and utilities download from Toshiba web site by clicking on the Support section and downloads and selection of files to download. You will need to fill in the details of your laptop so that the list of appropriate driver (unless you have provided these details when you register).

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

  • New DVD drive not recognized on my Satellite Pro 4600

    Hi all

I recently bought an engraver of DVD in NEC ND-6650 nine.
This drive is NOT recognized by my Satellite Pro 4600 at all - neither Windows 2000 nor in the BIOS (v 2.60). BIOS updates higher than the 2.60 version are not provided.
Does that mean I can forget about using the new writer in my old notebook?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Nils

    Hi Nils,

I suspect that your new drive may be not be compatible with your laptop. Like all scanners to your new drive will be configured as slave or master (or CSEL possible), and this configuration should match your laptop.

Usually your hard drive is configured as master on IDE channel 0 with optical drive is the slave on the same channel device. However, you may find that your optical drive is configured as master on the IDE 1 channel.

Normally the setting is preconfigured by the manufacturer so you will need to check both the conficuration of your new drive and the configuration of your original drive to make sure they are the same.

  • DVD drive does not work on Satellite A200-1 s 5

After the installation of vista dvd unit is not reading any disk until you restart. To be more precise, from the first moment, I bought the laptop, I try to install ms works disk, but the device did not read.
I have observed that if the disk was in the unit until the operating system has started the unit has been reading the disc. If I opened the dvd unit and I close the unit (with the same drive inside) I get the message to insert a floppy disk in the drive and the message remained until I restart the operating system.

I tried to restore the operating system with the DVD, it came to pass, but after installation I had the same problem. I tried with another operating system, windows XP, with all the drivers installed (BIOS included) and the problem still remains. The laptop works fine except the dvd player.

    Can someone help me please?

    Hello

a suggestion that could avoid sending the machine to a repair center would be to check the download site Drivers Toshiba for an update of the "firmware" for your drive. If no one is available, or the firmware does not solve the problem then you definitely need to send the machine to an authorized service partner because it could really be a hardware failure.

If you need a link to find the nearest service partner in your country, then you must click [HERE: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871] and phone an ASP for a chckup/repair of the material that is closest to you.

    Hello

I doubt that this could be a Vista or CD/DVV drive problem, I think that it s more a problem of compatibility of the disk.
