  • Satellite L300D - can't watch movies using a Toshiba DVD player

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L300D - 12L and the toshiba dvd player has stopped working.

The laptop is always able to recognize the dvd as the 'AutoPlay' box appears when a DVD is inserted and says ' DVD RW drive (e :)) "at the top of the follow-up to the title of the film.
I then click on 'play the DVD using a DVD TOSHIBE movie'... and nothing happens.

I tried several different DVD, which I know work in other laptops or DVD players.
I tried by following this link...

    http://www.TechSpot.com/VB/topic27616.html

and deleted the lowerfilters and upperfilters but that cause problems and I had to perform a system restore.
I'm running out of ideas and I would like to be able to watch DVD on my laptop again because I don't have a TV or a DVD player.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

It seems that the CD-DVD drive can read the disc, but it seems that the Toshiba DVD Player cannot play video files

Then maybe you should try to play the DVD using other software like Windows Media Player or VLC player download VLC player this small software and install it
Then try to play the movie

I recommend also to install the tool called DVD Player Update Check Tool that you find on the European driver Toshiba page.

With this tool, you can check your laptop, if your DVD player needs an upgrade and if so, it gives you the download link for version upgrade needed.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft community.

I understand that you have 2 questions:

    1. The DVD works fine while the CD player does not work.
    2. You have Windows Media center 2002 edition installed on the computer, however received the disc with Windows Media center edition 2005.

I would like to know if the understanding is incorrect.

To solve the first problem, I suggest you visit the link and try the methods in the knowledge base article.

I hope someone can help me. I changed a few settings in the BIOS Setup, and now I have just a black screen. I changed the main boot to the DVD player device.  is it possible to reset to original settings?
    I am running Windows XP

    clint341,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.  We cannot guide you more precisely by changing the BIOS settings that the BIOS settings are specific to your motherboard.  However, most (if not all) parameters of the BIOS have an option to restore the default BIOS (sometimes called "default opitimized").  It may be an option in the menu that you highlight, then press enter or it can be assigned to an F key and States at the bottom of the screen, press F? for the default settings.  I hope this helps.  If you are still not able to reset, check with the manufacturer of PC for more information about the BIOS. • My inner smartdrive dvd player won't read DVDs more.  I have updated to Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.  I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system.  The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot).  If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk.  When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc.  That no longer works.  Yesterday, only it just stop working.  The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works.  I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success.  I think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

I have no TV, only my computer and phone at low prices.  I need to watch that my library borrowed from the dvd.

    Thank you.

I have a lot of photos I want down the comp before I restore (if that's what I do) but when I attach a USB key or an external hard drive via USB it said that they are not formatted, although they work on another pc.

I want to save my photos but the difficulty of the laptop. Can someone tell me what I need to do?
    Help most appreciated.

    Thank you

Stay away from PC World and other 'big box' stores. If you cannot do the following works yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the laptop to a local professional. Get recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.

    1. remove the hard drive and put it in a USB drive enclosure (or use an adapter) and attach it to a working computer. Then, copy your data.

    2. Once your data is safe, put the drive in the laptop and do a factory restore. If all goes well, after that, restore your data from the copy that you made. If everything is not well and/or the factory restore does not work yet, you have the hardware failure. What you do then much will depend on which components have failed and how old is the laptop; that is, it is worth spending anything to fix. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
