  • Can I install Windows 2008 R2 Server on a PowerEdge 2850 Server?

I have a PowerEdge 2850 server, that when he was initially put in place (by someone else) had Windows 2003 R2 top.  However, when they put in place, the partitioned the C: drive with so little space that it is running out of space.  We got a newer Dell server and I turned that 2850 off the coast.  It was interrupted for a month or two.

But I would like to use it as a backup of database server.  Can I install Windows 2008 R2 Server on a PowerEdge 2850 Server?

You need to install RAID drivers during the installation of 2008R2.

    1. Configure and initialize the RAID in the CTRL-M utility.
    2. Download and extract the drivers put on USB (or CD).
    3. Start on media 2008R2.
    4. On the screen that asks you where you want to install Windows, click on load a driver link at the bottom left.
    5. Navigate to the location of the RAID drivers.
    6. Choose the drive to install, then install.

  • Adding appropriate on a PowerEdge R720 Server Windows 2008 R2 Dell drivers

I'm new on this server model so I apologize if this is a simplistic question. My COMPUTER service gave me 4 servers Dell PowerEdge R720 with no OS on them and no other information or documentation. I was able to get the Windows 2008 R2 OS installed base, but fight with the addition of the drivers necessary Dell or components. Is there an easy way to detect what I have and automatically install what I need?

You could run SUU from the operating system:
    http://www.Dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=9CXFR&FILEID=3421957643&osCode=WS8R2&ProductCode=PowerEdge-R720&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=SM

It's huge (+ 10 GB), then it may not be the best way. You can download and install the drivers one at a time. Start with the chipset driver, then install the drivers for the device with the yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, have installed drivers 'generic' and all available drivers that are newer to the native Windows drivers - you will need probably the video drivers and the network may be drivers. You must also install OpenManage Server Administrator (Managed Node).

  • The PowerEdge 2900 server RAID

    Hello everyone and good day

I have a PowerEdge 2900 which was erased and raid configured with 2 discs and ready for os install. However when you try to use the Server Wizard, I get an error that his stats can not detect readers or they are not initialized. I do all the raid configuration and should be ready. I took a peek in the bios of the main server and I do not see listed in the boot sequence raid controller. all I see is cd rom on b sata and hard drive. until the server has been annihilated the raid controller has been listed in the boot sequence menu. I changed a setting that I shouldn't have or I am missing a part of the process? No matter which lend a little and fix this? I would like to get the server operational return. the server has a perc 6i

When I got is the server was running. However, he came from a health care facility and had to be wiped.

I have it wiped myself just by going to the raid controller and removing the VFD and reconfiguring with new configuration.

Please tell me that I don't have just the weight of the heavier paper in my office.

You must configure AND initialize the virtual disk (table)... tick all the boxes advanced and Initialize during the creation of the VFD.

You can also use a version of "server Wizard" (obsolete) that does not support the hardware in your server.

  • Install windows 7 on a poweredge 650 Server

I have a dell poweredge 650. and I was wondering if I can install windows 7 on it? Is there something important that I need to know? Thank you

Well, there are some things you need to know:

    • It has no sound capability.
    • It has only a small number (maybe 8) MB of video memory, so Aero or any graphic intensive activity is not possible.
    • It does not support add-in graphics... you might be able to find something that will work, but it will be VERY hit/miss.
    • It can be equipped with a RAID controller.  If so, you will need to load drivers for it during the Windows Installer.
    • He has a very good chance that your processor is 32-bit only.
    • Drivers will not exist for some devices; You may be able to use Server 2008 x 86 drivers for some devices, including the RAID controller.

What do you do with it?

  • Impossible to get any OS to install PowerEdge 1750 Server

I'm having some trouble with that and it makes me nuts. It's the 1st Rackmount Dell I worked on. Other then that I was working on a tower. But the part that I did not do anything with the SCSI hard drives is.

So maybe someone here can help me. I got a Dell PowerEdge 1750, 2 Maxtor 36 GB SCSI disks in there. The server was using RAID mirror the primary drive before being erased and replaced. So now, the server must be configured with Linux and it does not matter if drivers are reflected in the RAID at all.

So I tried to install Ubuntu server OS and he repeated to me that it cannot find the drivers for the drives. I tried a few drivers here at DELL who have been to Red Hat and it did not work.

Then, I tried a copy of Red Hat Linux 8.0 and had the same problem that Ubuntu has given me.

Then laughing, I tried a copy of Windows XP Home Edition who was sitting by a former Workstation. Same problem, Windows could not find the hard drives. I have download the drivers PERC 4/Di windows server 2000 and 2003 (x 84). Tried loading to see if pilots would allow me to install the OS or not. Never worked.

Finally try, I popped a copy of Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition in and he had the same problem as XP, so I pop the drivers PERC 4/Di and selected the driver for Windows Server 2003 and it has yet to find the hard drives.

    What I am doing wrong?

    NEWS POST:

Integrated server 1.80 Firmware revision management

Review from the primary backplane Firmware 1.01

PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller BIOS B109 February 18, 2003

    PERC 4/Di Standard FW 4.04

0 logical drives to the host adapter

Or logical drives 0 managed by the BIOS

Broadcom NetXtreme managed by BIOS Boot Agent V7.0.3

I don't know if this noraml or not, I think that it funny that he finds the 0 logical drives, but when you go into the configuration both appear in there.

PERC does not support non - RAID JBOD, so if you want mirrored or not, you must configure the drives in the PERC BIOS (CTRL-M)... or put it turns off and only use the system SCSI controller.

If you want to use as separate readers readers / person, you must configure each disk in a single drive RAID 0.

If you want to disable RAID and used in SCSI mode only, so you need to start on the configuration of the BIOS (F2), embedded devices, and Embedded RAID SCSI value active.

The fact that the POST said 0 logical drives found indicates that the disks are not configured - don't forget, readers must be configured in a sort of table before they can be used by the operating system.  So it must show at least a logical drive before installation can never be successful.

Once the RAID is set up, you will need to worry about drivers.

  • OK, I NEED someone TO HELP me INSTALL LESS ESXi 5.0 on my Dell PowerEdge 1950 Server! And of course, HE IS No. TUTORIAL on this SITE FOR ME HELP!

    As I said earlier:

OK, I am trying to install vSpere on my Dell PowerEdge 1950.

    Hardware specifications:

    4 GB FB-DIMM DDR2 memory

    x 2 processor Intel Xeon, 2 carrots, 3.00 GHz

There a RAID BIOS, so I had to create a Raid 0 virtual disk to install anything.

Drive hard WD 1 TB, it's the one I use for the VD.

When I choose which hard drive I use, I select the VD, I created, I select my keyboard language, then the configuration scan my material, then he asks me if if want to install, I pressed F11. Then, when it reached 5%, it throws an error: "partedUtil failed with the message: error: can not have a partition outside the disk!

He says that it cannot install it on a virtual drive? My server is not compatible?

Edit: There is another error that says: cannot read the partition table for device:

    /VMFS/devices/disks/NAA.60019b90bd8289001e62575a584731e0

What is going on!!! Why vmware cannot have tutorials on "How to install Esxi on a server with RAID BIOS"?

Check if the virtual HARD disk you packed is initialized. It seems that the installation is not written on this HARD drive. Back to the HARD Disk Manager (you probably PERC5 / I) to start the process I think is CTRL + R? find your virtual drive and launch. Take a look at the image as an attachment.

  • Step to convert the current Dell PowerEdge 1800 server in Esxi 4

We have production server, which is Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Windows SBS 2003 with 3 hard drives in RAID. And then, we want to make this server as VMware Esxi 4 with the same Windows 2003 SBS server. We will replace the 3 new hard disks, but new readers are not the same as the old disks. What is the right next step? Because it comes to the production server, we cannot lose all data.

    1. use VMWare vCenter Converter to convert the current Windows 2003 SBS to VMWare workstation

    2. Replace with 3 new hard drives and install VMWare EsXi 4 CD

3 use VMWare vCenter Converter to load WMWare workstation image into the new server Esxi 4.

Please let me know if this is the correct order? Is there a risk? Thank you!

Welcome to the community - that sounds about the right order =

  • Dell powerEdge t420, server windows 2008 R2, RAID5, partitioning problem

    Hello

    [Dell powerEdge t420, windows 2008 R2, RAID5 Server]

I have attached the picture of disk management.

    There are

1 extended partition in which it is

1 NTFS logical volume that completely fill the extended partition.

But there is a small green free space 0 MB.

    Is this normal?

Thanks for the info. I have install.

    I reinstalled the operating system

and in OS partitioning step installation

    There were:

a 1 Mb extended partition, then the logical partition.

I deleted all and create 2 primary partition (1 for the Os) and 1 for DATA.

    I solved it.

    But I don't know if

is the best performing primary or logical partition.

  • Help me to confirm THAT RAID 5 of my new server is configured correctly. PowerEdge T620, server 2012

I just received my new Dell T620 server today, I ordered it with (4) 2 hard drives in a RAID5 configuration to

I also configured it with a 80 GB operating system partition when I bought it.

He got today and I'm a little confused how his watch hard drives.

I have the 80 GB OS Partition, shows that the c volume which is good.

Then, I have four other volumes...

    D: 1.8 to DataPart2
    E: 1.8 to DataPart3
    F: 57.9 GB DataPart4
    G: 1.72TB DataPart1

I know that I can go in 2012 under file and storage server parameters and joining them in a Storage Pool and it must show a letter then, correct?

But, is this the way I need to do this? And how can I confirm that RAID5 is working, so that if one disk fails someday, I can swap just outside like I should be able to.

I just thought that if I ordered the server with 4 disks in a RAID5 configuration and make a 80 GB OS partition, said that when I had the server I have a volume for the operating system and the other to the data.

    OK... explanation:

    • Each RAID array/virtual disk that is managed by the RAID controller is presented as another "drive" Windows.
    • Windows cannot use a 'disc' greater than 2 TB, unless it is a GPT disk.
    • Windows cannot START on a GPT disk, except if it is installed on a UEFI system.

By not checking a UEFI/GPT option, it would have been necessary to create virtual disks (at least the boot VD) less than 2 TB so that Windows can use and starts to him (why they did additional smaller VD, I'm not sure).

At this point, you have four options:

    1) live with it as is (I personally wouldn't).

    (2) will not require reinstalling:

    • Use the 1.8 TB VD0 because the OS 'drive '.
    • Delete 1,2,3 VD
    • Create a large 3.7 GB VD1
    • Convert to GPT, and use it as a 'disc' that you can partition as necessary or desired separate data

(3), it will have to reinstall:

    • Removal of all VD
    • The switch in the UEFI boot mode
    • Set up a big 6 TB VD0
    • Reinstall Windows on it and partition as needed or desired.

(4), it will have to reinstall or backup/restore:

    • Removal of all VD
    • Leave the startup mode in the BIOS
    • Set up a small 80 GB VD0 to which you will install the operating system
    • Set up a large VD1
    • Convert to GPT, and use it as a 'disc' that you can partition separate data as needed or desired.
