Effects of text in InDesign, drop shadow, outer glow, etc...

Hi, I'm in InDesign CS4 on a PC running XP.

I was wondering if it is safe to use text effects in InDesign the drop shadow, outer glow. I think someone told me earlier that they are best used in Photoshop especially if you want to print. I just wanted to check that I will be having something printed with the help of ID...

Thank you.

I've never had a problem with shadow or a glow on text in ID when you go to print, but I let my live transparency and let the printer handle flattening RIP. You can have problems with a printer that has old equipment and insists on having a flattened PDF, but if it happens press (rather than the digital output) even what is unlikely, although I tend to stay away from the effects of ads where I'm not supported the selection of the printer.

The only way that you would avoid flattening of the questions by the effects in Photshop would be to flatten the image in Photoshop and placing this, but this will rasterize text unnecessarily and will probably lower quality type in the final output.

  • Strange InDesign drop shadow

    Hello

I added a shadow to a vector object in InDesign (you will see in the joint), but there is this strange thing on the underside of it where it gives additional shadow of lower left half rather than running the length of the background and research without welding. I tried to play around with the settings, but nothing don't fix it all by keeping the other elements of this shadow, I love. How can I solve this problem? Thank you!

Check to be sure there isn't something else behind this one (maybe the framework for Mac image spans that a lot?) and check the settings with the selected image.

Also check preview overprinting to be sure that this isn't some kind of anomaly of display

  • Helps the outer glow

My students are currently logos personnel utlizing Photoshop CS4. On the text layer which is on all the other layers, it has the following layer styles: drop shadow, outer glow, inner glow, bevel and relief, Gradient Overlay, Pattern Overlay, and stroke. Whenever she tries to save his image in JPEG format, the outer glow disappears. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance!

When you use Layer Styles, always display images at 100% (view > actual pixels) before you flatten the image or save it in a file flat out.

Photoshop is not terrible to render the layer exactly to the other percentages Styles. This means that even if your outer glow students can look OK on screen 46,35% - it is in fact not enough external light that she. She needs to increase its brightness factor.

  • For Drop Shadow Effects to InDesign help. Good or bad?

I'm carrying a book in InDesign 5.5. The book is sent in PDF format to the Publisher of the book. The book includes about 400 pictures that many are wrapped in the text (clothing). My question is: what are the pitfalls or problems that might result if I apply a shadow to photos using InDesign, drop shadow functionality?

I see two check boxes in the Drop Shadow Effects dialog box:

Object mask Shadow & honors other effects of shade. I guess I want the object to knock out the shadow?

You're probably going to want to knock out the shadow. There are times where you might want to do otherwise, but unless you are very familiar with the overprint and knockout, I would recommend to stay away. Here is more information on the subject: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-7038a.h tml

The only trap I can think in aesthetics. Shadows are used when used subtly. To facilitate your work, instead of individually apply a shadow to your objects, you can apply a style object. This would allow you to easily make changes to all objects with the drop shadow effect. More on that here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WS5CEDB81A-0011-4dc9-9DE8-AC7AD4C80076a.html

  • 'Drop shadow' creates a line - problem

    Hello

I am in the process of producing a card (17 x 22 inches) and I met a quite disturbing problem with "shadow" effect

I tried to drop shadow on a size of 12 x 18 inch object with these settings:

    2014-07-24_143327.png

And I got good result on all of the form, except the lower part, that give me a line. As the cuts through the dark thing:

    2014-07-24_142426.png

I would add that the object is on the single layer and nothing interacts with it.

At first, I thought that maybe it's display problem, not the shadow itself, so I zoomed in and out, but nothing has changed. Then I made sure that all anchor points are connected to each other - I'm sure that the object IS closed. I tried to manipulate anchor points, slightly changed the shape of the object, add, delete some anchor points, changed settings shadows - nothing makes no difference in how the shadow looks like. Any ideas?

    Thank you

    ANIA

I don't know exactly what the problem was. I had to open the DS in so just AICS6 rid of all the other stuff and applied to the object. Happy to help you.

  • Effects of text in Muse

Is it possible to create text effects (drop shadow, inner glow, outline, etc.) on my site in Muse? I did this in Illustrator and then just copied as JPEGs to Muse. My problem is that the fonts in illustrator are different from Muse. Highest Optien point is not available in Muse or the other chic Fontdiner way in not available in Illustrator. Is it an appearance Panel in Muse?

Refer to this topic on how to apply these effects using the effect controls panel in control in Muse band - http://forums.adobe.com/message/4463412.

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when converting 1-column text box with a drop shadow to the col-2 (or more)

I use InDesign CS4 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit, 6 GB of RAM. If I create a column 1 text box, fill it with a color, add a drop shadow, and then add text, everything is fine. If I try to change it to 2-columns (or), InDesign freezes/crashes. I thought at first that it is perhaps because the case was shot, but it happens even if the case is not turned. If I remove the shadow and try to change it, it works.

Anyone know why this is happening or if there is a known bug or fix?

    Thank you

XP 64 is totally supported. No troubleshooting should begin there.

  • Select text AND drop shadow effect

I have a text layer which has also an effect layer shadow.

If I have to ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the layer, as expected, it selects the text but is not also include the drop shadow layer style. I guess it's because the Ctrl clicking on the miniature mask selects the non-transparent pixels completely and drop shadow layer mask is slightly transparent?

How can I easily select text and ALL pixels of drop shadow?

In a Word, I want to choose only 100% transparent pixels, so I can reverse to select the 100% opaque text and < 100% pixels layer transparent drop shadow?

Thanks for any help you can give.

The pixels are selected; It is that ants walking delineate only the boundary between lower or greater than 50% selected. To select completely all non-transparent pixels in your shadow layer, select as you did and go quick mask mode. Make sure that the quick mask is active in the Panel layer and run the threshold with a value of 255. Return to Standard mode, and you will see ants on expanded.

  • Background color in InDesign CS6 text drop shadow changes

I have two layers, one for a background image that is related with a photoshop document and another layer of text. When I add drop shadow to the text, the background color will kind of dark, and the same thing happens to the overlay, while with 5.5, it has not been that. Is there a way to fix this?

  • Cannot add drop shadow to the text in PES 6

Everyone says to layer > layer Style > Style settings.

But when I go to the layer Style and tries to access the Style settings, Style settings is grayed out.   (The text in question is already selected.)

In fact, I tried to implement all get the Style settings to engage and have not been able to do.

Also, when I go into effect and you are trying to add the cool effect (torn paper, Scarlet contours, etc.), it automatically changes the color of my text.  For example, my text is orange and when I tried "glowing edges" he changed the text to dull olive... and it certainly did not shine.

Any guidance you can give to these questions... Thank you!

Style settings is adjust the styles you've already added. The effects that you have listed are all filters, no effects or the layer styles and they use the foreground/background colors, then Yes, they will change the color of your text. To apply a drop shadow click the button layer styles in the effect controls panel, choose shadows in the menu drop-down and double click on the one you want. If you do not, cancel and try another. Then you should be able to set things like the angle and the distance of the shadow by adjusting the style settings.

  • How do you add outer glow effect to the text into 12 elements?

I created a layer in 12 items with text.  I want to add an outer glow effect.

    That's what I do:

    1. Select the layer with the text

    2. click the FX button at the bottom of the screen

    3 click the Styles tab

    4. Select Outer Glow of drop down

    5. I can see 11 predefined option.  The only one that works is called 'Fire' and it's not the style I'm looking for.  I want a simple contour, but none of the other presets have no effect.

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you!

Try the outer glow #4 > Simple. Apply.

Now on the text in the layers palette layer there is an f on the right. Double-click the f

This opens the Style dialog box. At the bottom, check "Stroke" and adjust with the sliders accordingly.

  • Shadows / shades clear effect on text

    Hi all

As shown in the image below, would someone please let me know how to generate this kind of Visual effect on the text with Photoshop?

    cappheritage sample .jpg

    Thank you very much!!

Apply a layer style to your text layer, see the button in the photo attached. There, you can add a drop shadow and other effects that use the transparency of your layer. In this case, they seem to have used a feature white and then added a shadow...

  • Why my Drop Shadow effect has disappeared?

I used the drop shadow effect all the time in FCPX. Now it no longer displays in the effect controls panel and clips that already had the effect previously, now show that the effect is missing. I restarted the program and it is up-to-date.

See if it is in the aesthetic category. If she is not there, try reinstalling the application.

  • Why the drop shadow is not available under the effect - style?

I'm having the hardest right now time with the functionality of the illustrator of the drop shadow. It's nothing exists for me. I have the selected object I want to apply the effect to and the only option available is Scarlet contours. Nothing else is there as an option or even gray. I restarted my computer and closed Illustrator several times and that doesn't change. I have also opened up a whole new file and just drew a rectangle and went to effect - style and it still only gave me glowing edges. I'm at my wits end on this one.

There are two submenus aesthetic. Glance to the top.
