  I'm sorry to hear that this HARD drive died after 2 days that are not normally but these things can happen, especially with the HARD drive, it is a mechanical part.   You are right that you must install the first RAID driver before installing the operating system.
  If you have installed the RAID the installation Win driver will ask you to format the HARD drive.
  In this case, do NOT format the HARD drive because the RAID driver will remove and it is not possible to install the Windows XP.

  Now your question Win98; is on the page of the Toshiba driver you will find not all drivers for Win98 for this device and I assume that you need a particular driver for the CD/DVD drive to activate this device.
