Error reading disc Y560d

Last night, suddenly my laptop crashes and I decided to restart it but after the BIOS menu, there the "Disc Read Error - restart CTRL + ALT + DEL" Message and I cannot go further from here.

What I've read I need to replace my HARD drive?

If so, should I buy a new, or would it be better to call technical support in an attempt to replace.

I am still under warranty.

You should communicate with warranty, let them do it for you.

    Please can you help me?

Have a Toshiba Satellite L300. All I get is disc read error has occurred, please press Ctrl Alt + Delete.
How can I get to start again. I have no idea what it takes then just keep pressing Ctrl Alt + Delete and it says a disk read error has occurred.

I'm going along in circles in. Running Windows Vista Premium.

    Hello!

You can access the advanced boot menu if you press F8 after starting the laptop? Then you can start to the recovery Toshiba HDD option (select Repair my computer).

If you can access the advanced boot menu, you must reinstall Windows Vista from the t. Therefore, you can use the Toshiba Recovery disk if you start from it.

  • Error reading disc after reinstalling xp

I've seen similar positions but with no solution to this. Hope you can help. I updated my laptop drive and installed XP using the recovery disk. Formatted in NTFS ok. The installation was flawless. After restarting, I got a message "disc error". Reboot gives the same message. Thinking that I had a disk problem I used the soft Western Digital drive to check the drive and it is 100% OK. I used the low soft format the disk (write all zeros on the disk) and then again checked with the WD application. All tested OK. Then I used the XP Reinstall disk to format to ntfs and reinstall the operating system. I had the same installation without flaw and the same error at the end I repeated 2 times more tempting to quick format, slow format, etc but still the same error. The disc reads perfectly with a number of different applications until I have reinstall the OS. The laptop works very well with the old drive.

Format.exe said it almost nothing about the condition of the disk. Chkdsk.exe /R tells you much more and diagnostic program by the disk manufacturer (which you can download) tells you more.

  • Error reading disc after HD upgrade

I am trying to upgrade the hard drive on my laptop T60 and get the message "a disk read error has occurred. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart. "I'm grateful for any help that anyone can give.

The old hard drive is a Hitachi 60 GB HTS541060G9SA00 model. The new hard drive is a Samsung 500 GB HN-M500MBB model. I used Acronis True Image to create an image of the partitions on the old hard drive, following the procedure and the guidelines that I found here:

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ShowPost.php?p=1299861&postcount=9
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=203480

To recall a few aspects of the process: I had the * new * hard drive in the machine; I started on the Acronis CD; I have restored/resized the image stored on a hard disk USB hard disk nine. When I boot the disk hard nine, I get the message "disc error".

    What I tried:
    * I started to UBCD. On this basis, can I open 'My Computer' and see the partitions on the new drive, and I can see the files and folders it contains. The c: partition is NTFS, MB 64428 with 43501 MB of free space; the D: partition is NTFS, MB 418765 with 393804 MB of free space. I guess that means that the hard drive itself is not defective.
    * I tried to change a BIOS setting: the "Serial ATA (SATA) ' definition '[compatibility]' and start (got the disc read error) and then on '[ACHI]' and startup (once again, the disc read error). This is beyond my knowledge, but I read on a forum somewhere that this setting failover helped someone with a somewhat similar problem.

Any suggestions? I'm grateful for any help you can give. Thank you!

I didn't realize that the two forums were related or frequented by the same community or I have not posted in both places. I was able to come to a solution, the details here:

  • Error "Cannot read disc" after nc4200 replacement hard drive

    Hi all

I read through the postings but did not see an exact match for the issue I'm having.

My 5 year old needed nc4200 finally a replacement hard drive.  I bought a new 120 GB ATA-6 WD Scorpio Blue 40 GB ATA-7 Toshiba plant.  I was able to clean up a few errors on the old disk and the Partition Magic 8.0 successfully used to copy all the data in a single primary partition on the new 120 GB drive using all available space.

I started with success the drive on the Windows desktop using a separate post of full PC.  When I inserted the new, WD drive in my nc4200 however I got an error "cannot read disc" immediately after the MESSAGE.  The BIOS is a short wee on tests of diagnostic and other information on the hard drive, but I ran with success a test drive in the menu of the BIOS with the net results.

I have advanced and updated the BIOS to version F.0F thinking there may be some 1024 cylinders deliver or other incompatibility big disk, but this new version also shows the error of reading.  At this point, I'm stumped.  Why this new boot in my desktop PC drive but fail in my nc4200?  What do I have to use some tools HP blessed to make this readable disk?

    Thanks in advance!

Well, I guess you can call this one resolved.  I sent the WD Scorpio Blue 120 GB drive (model WD1200BEVE) and ordered a WD Scorpio Blue 80 GB (model WD800BEVE) instead.  I cloned my old Toshiba 50 GB 5400 RPM (model MK6026GAX) with Acronis True Image WD Edition.  I installed the new drive in my nc4200 and pulled upward on the first try!

I'm still not sure why the 120 GB didn't work.  The only thing I noticed is that the done 120 GB one noise rattling and the 80 GB is not then maybe the drive was defective.  I'll never know however, if it was the drive or the size of the drive, that was the question, but I hope that this info will be useful to someone else looking to exchange a HD of aging in a nc4200.

  • Error reading the RAR and Cab files to Samsung HD103SI 1 TB

Recently, I installed Win7 - 64 bit on a new Samsung HD103SI HD. However, I had the following problems:

1 unpacking everything .rar or cab file generates an arbitrary "Volume is corrupt error". I downloaded the same file several times and repaired with WinRar, but the error persists.

2 try to install any application or software (installation files run from the HARD drive or from a USB external), translated by Error1335 (cannot read disc source or other generic copy errors).

    3. I tried lowering the maximum memory of advanced boot, as well as the msiexec commands in the BACK, with no result. I also run Windows (for RAM) memory diagnostic in DOS mode, and did a full scan of all partitions of the HDD in Dos Mode (command/r). No problem not found in both cases. Also tried disabling firewall ESET and Windows, but mistakes always pop up.

    4. what actually WORKS is when I try to run the same files (which gave errors in the file corrupt) in safe mode. It installs (or decompress) without complaint.

However, I can't keep coming back in safe mode whenever I need to unpack / install something on my HARD drive.  Is it a driver problem or something else in conflict?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Since it runs from USB key then is sounds like a hard drive or a hard drive problem-
Check wiring (do not exclude what I saw wiring cause similar corruption
Questions). Run the diagnostic test of the constructor which is much more intense than chkdsk.

Would be a good idea to inquire about possible alternative drivers of Samsung Support and
other options you may have. Especially if the disc is defective.

Samsung - Support - click on the link "Computing."

    Hello

you mean that the external hard drive does not work too? Some software blocking your disks?

I think that the best way to check if your internal drive still works would try to start with a bootable CD (perhaps with a live linux distribution on it) and to try this with the external hard drive also.

If you're really a software that prevents the drive work properly, then you should recover your machine with the recovery media to make the drive work again properly.

    Hello

This does not sound well :( I think it could be a hardware problem maybe something wrong with the lens of the drive
Anyway, usually it of not possible to fix these issues or it s not worth repairing, because the costs are too high
Thus, it seems that you need to replace. But be careful. Not all readers are compatible because different master/slave/c-salt settings.
I would recommend so contact the ASP in your country to get a compatible drive.

    But please try this proposal;

    Hi Winifred_M,

Thanks for posting on the Forum of answers.

If you can provide a link to the application, we can try to recreate the issue.
Otherwise, it is perhaps a question that you should take with the Publisher of the software.

However, you can try to use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:

When you are working on your computer and install a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Now, you're left with a partly installed program. You try to install the program again, but you're unsuccessful. Or, maybe you have problems trying to remove an old program because the installation files are damaged.

Do not worry. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility may be able to help. You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Remember that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall on.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility

We have updated Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility works correctly in all versions, 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows. If you have an earlier version installed on your computer, we recommend that you download and install this latest version.

You must be logged on to Windows with a user account is an administrator on the computer to run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. For more information about how to install and run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, see the section "more information".
