Could someone please let me know why the reboot is happening?

You can also drop in the newspapers of the host-d and/or information provided by a dump of support?

My suspicion is that you can have something material related current. Have you checked the hardware section of the cilent VI or the HP tools?

  • Reboot the ESX host as possible while on VM snapshots exist?

Can you safely do a reboot of a host ESX VM there was on this host which are off (of course), but have a snapshot exists at this time?

Because we restart some ESX host but you also have to install some Windows updates on the virtual machine on these hosts. Normally, we take a snapshot of the WM, install updates, restart, check if everything is working fine, and then remove the snapshot. But after a reboot the ESX host we also check if the VM have started and are working very well. In this case, it would cost me 2 restart and check for WM

When I could do the snapshots, installation of updates, power off the virtual machine, reboot the ESX host, turn on the virtual machine, all check and then delete the snapshots, it saves me time. Only thing I don't know and can't find is so it record to make a snapshot is by restarting the EX host and if the snapshot can be deleted after reboot normally.

    Welcome to the community,

don't worry, a restart of the host is quite VMs, regardless of whether they are active or not snapshots.

  • After that reboot esx host is unavailable for 10 minutes

Hi, I have a 4.0 Esx that whenever I turn on or reboot after you start loading the files it display the classic to manage via the web or ALT + F1 screen to manage via linux cli.

The ESX host is answered by another pc on the local network, but I can not connect my Vsphere client for about 10 minutes.

After this time, finally, I can connect with Vsphere client.

    You have any ideas?

    Thank you

    see if that helps

    kernel 0xC0100000, data 0xc038d00 s .bss 0xc0443380

the other two hosts works fine?

is perhaps a controller failure: could you try to reinstall ESX default to do so and see if he do the same?

  • You can restart nfs storage WITHOUT having to reboot ESX host?

    Hi community

I wanted to know what your experience has been reset to the nfs storage devices WITHOUT having to restart the ESX servers. I can stop the virtual machines that use the storage, but would like to avoid off ESX hosts as they require a visit to the data center for put in operation and I can do all the rest of the House.

My options are either then restart the ESX host (that I can do it remotely of course) or the ESX Server restores in the nfs storage when it is up?

This is the first time such a restart will be required so I use

this as a learning experience and the VMs on those ESX hosts are not

criticism.  (although don't tell users which.) )

    Thanks in advance

    Yes, of course you can.

ESXes automatically reverts to the storage.

  • ESX host is not responding

    Hello

    now, I have a problem.

    a customer has 3 blade IBM HS23.

because in the course of the last 7 months I had 4 times the host esx became offline / insensitive

all the vm continue to operate therefore continues to operate production

ESX host do not react on SSH connection or telnet

I can connect after pressing F2 and F12, but then the host everything crashes

I can't connect to the vi to the ESX host client either.

all hosts are installed on the IBM's USB drive

the only thing to solve it is to off the blades and start again

also random sound. I had 3 months running good, good running 1 day and 3 weeks running good

the vpxd.log file displays only the waiting times to communicate with the esx host and then the error offline

already updated all my firmware (chasis, blades, storage, fiber brocade and IBM switches)

I started with vsphere 5.5 u1 U1 and ESXI 5.5 IBM. already updates on vsphere 5.5 U2 and 5.5 ESXi vmware u2 (since ibm doesn't have an ESXi custom 5.5 u2)

im stuck... lil last event is on 16/01/2015 (and ibm will not support since there only subscription for 3 years and no software support contract)

one last point, I'm under bacup veeam and 7.x replication but don't see a problem there.

    Thanks in advance.

    I found the problem

I've restarted only iSCSI data store and all ESXi hosts becomes sensitive

so, after searching for the qnap forum I noticed that they have released an update on 29/01/2015

test of the firmware now and see what happens

If this fails, I guess the qnap ts - 469L is not taken in charge more for vsphere 5.5

Thank you all for the suggestions

  • How LUNS presented to an ESX host

    Dear team,

How to confirm weather LUN is presented to an ESX host?

We asked our team to SAN map a 900 GB LUN to one of the esx host, these people have done enough for their purpose (e.g. zoning part etc.) and confirm the same thing for us. We rescan the HBA, still, we are not able to see the same thing. SAN team asked us to reboot and check, but it's prodcurion esx box we will not be able to restart, so I want to confirm end VMware, is it possible to confirm weather esx is able to perceive the lun or the requested LUN is delivered correctly to an esx host, needs your help to understand this issue.

    Mr. VMware

If you need create a vmfs on this lun data store, then you can simply follow the add storage wizard via - see this link for more information/screenshots: http://www.vmadmin.co.uk/vmware/35-esxserver/109-esxvmfsdatastore

  • Change DNS IP addresses on the ESX host server

    Hello

I need to change the IP address of my Windows DNS servers on the my ESX hosts. I know I can do this through the vsphere client, but that requires a reboot of the servers. Is there a way I can do this via ssh by changing a file that will not cause a restart of the host? If so, please describe how to do this.

Also, if the host is restarted, what will happen in the virtual machine of in the interval until the host is upward? It will cause the virtual machine to restart as well, or so I have to restart their after that the host is back? I also disabled HA until I did the DNS changes.

    Thank you.

  • Can you run various NUMA parameters on ESX host?

    Hi all

We are running ESX 3.0 and have experienced a problem with some our fair virtual servers randomly close I googled the error message displayed in the case where newspapers that lead me to the article below in the VMware KB.

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 10213

This article is about the exact message we receive, so I am confident that its troubleshooting procedures should work as we run the NUMA architecture in our environment, but I have a question before the change of management being curious to know a bit more information regarding hit her on the effects of his settings of NUMA in our environment.

That's why we have taken two ESX hosts in our environment, my question was the following can I make NUMA changes on an ESX host and then migrate (if they aren't already) servers that have had the shutdown problem random overall to the ESX host that has the correct settings of NUMA as detailed in the article above?

If any of you out there have done this before? If so is there any bad shot on the effects that I should know about? Any comments or advice you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated! Roll on the migration to VSphere 4.0!

    Thank you

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

That's why we have taken two ESX hosts in our environment, my question was the following can I make NUMA changes on an ESX host and then migrate (if they aren't already) servers that have had the shutdown problem random overall to the ESX host that has the correct settings of NUMA as detailed in the article above?

No Yes No problem with that. The VM themselves are not aware that they are running on NUMA hardware, so will not notice. The bug is because the vmkernel does not release memory properly when a virtual machine gets on demand on one NUMA node other than that which has been started the. Configuration Numa.MonMigEnable effectively disables this behavior at the host level, but this does not disable the advantage of NUMA so you may notice a performance decrease.

Not sure of your patch levels, but apparently it was 'fixed' with this patch: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2066306

    Kind regards.

  • Use of DNS by ESX host

I'm curious to know how important dns entries using host esx (DNS configuration & Routing tabs) as we change all of our dns servers. Do I need to reboot the ESX host, if I change the ip or is the service good enough restart or simliar control network? All the vm have dns entries, so I'm not sure what the guests need even references to. It's on Vsphere 4.

    Thank you

    Stuart

If you run the only stand hosts, DNS is not important. However, if you run the hosts in a vCenter environment you need to make sure that the DNS resolution works. Otherwise, you will experience issues with host disconnection of the vCenter and HA no longer works.

The DNS entries can be changed on the fly, which means that you can enter the new DNS servers in addition to those current and once the new DNS servers are in place, remove the old entries.

  • ESX host must restart?

I'm confused as to why would need a host ESX reboot in order to change the number of ports on an existing virtual switch.  I read it wrong.  A virtual switch can have maps of physical network (natachasery) added and deleted without a reboot - I did yesterday.  A virtual switch can have VLAN extra added without a reboot.  Did - it mean if the ESX host has an additional physical nic added to the HOST, then a reboot may be required?

I must be confused about the word 'port', but under properties vSwitch in vCenter, the Ports tab has 'Add' gives you a chance to create a group of ports (VM, VMkernel, Console of Service).

VCPs and VCPs in gestation, can clarify you?

    see you soon,

    KC

The vSphere Client will show a standard vSwitch with a default value of 120 (4.1) or 56 (4.0) ports, and you will need to restart the host so that any change to this effect to take parameter. This is true of standard vSwitches, distributed vSwitches can be changed on the fly. There are many other differences between standard vSwitches and distributed vSwitches, for the rest of this answer, I will only talk about standard vSwitches.

Just like a physical switch, a virtual switch is composed of a number of ports, ports on a virtual switch can be used by the virtual machines, the VMkernel and the Service Console (ESX only). Virtual ports are always grouped into a group of ports - port group can contain a single port or multiple ports. A group of ports for virtual machines is not a set number of ports, ports are dynamically assigned to the Group of ports that you turn on virtual machines that have their network card configured to use the port group. You can connect the network adapters on multiple virtual machines on the same port group, a group of ports used by virtual machines can contain multiple ports. Ports used by the VMkernel and Service Console are only ever make up a single port because there is never a single virtual connection for them. Port groups have various attributed assigned to them on their safety, Traffic Shaping and NIC Teaming tabs, as well as their VLAN name.

Why the host does not require a reboot? It has everything just...

  • How to set up so that VMs automatically starts when the host reboot?

We lost power this morning and all 4 ESX hosts are down.  When the power is back, we observe that VM is not started automatically.

We find we have not enabled 'start and stop Virtual Machines with the system.  In this way, we have allowed it.

We'd like to know, is it necessary to move all virtual machines (those we would like to bring start automatically when the host is in place) "Manual start" to "any order"?

In addition, as the setting is on each ESX host, will be the setting (i.e. automatic start in any order) for a particular virtual machine carried over to another ESX host if it is has been vMotioned?

    Thank you

    (1) Yes, it applies for each host and is not shared between all the other hosts and is disabled by default. You must activate it by going to configuration tab look for 'Machine virtual start/stop' to activate and set the priority/delay for your virtual machines

    (2) personally, I don't use this feature, it could be the case that the default update the settings back... it would be surprising if that were the case, I re - activate and try to stop or restart and see if that is the case. If it's the latter, I would file a ticket with VMware if you have a support contract

    (3) No, if everything is configured correctly and the change of the start/stop is retained through reboots, they should automatically turn on virtual machines in the list that you specified.

  • Restart VM after you restart the ESX host

    Hi all

    I am using VSphere Enterprise.

Here my little question, makes VMs always restart after back us running or stopping of the esx host?

In esx 3.5, when I reboot an esx host, all the virtual machines in this host are still alive (without restarting).

    Pls advice

    Thank you

The only way, a virtual machine can rest running when it is running on ESX server is restarted is that if FT is activated - in this case, the connections will be seamless switch to the virtual machine "shadow". This is a feature of vSphere, so I don't see how you did not the VMs restart on your ESX 3.5 - even with VMware HA environment, there will be a short break because the VMs will be will be running on the other nodes in the cluster.

  • Install new ESX hosts.  Cannot Ping.

    Hi all

I'm building a test lab which so far consists of:

    ESX1: 20.1.1.10 255.255.255.0

    vCenter: 20.1.1.100 255.255.255.0

    Openfiler iscsi: 20.1.1.40 255.255.255.0

I had all these configured devices and can ping throughout (with a little help from you friendly people, of course). I just tried to install my second esx host and I have a few problems to get to communicate with the rest. During installation I assigned an IP address of 20.1.1.80 255.255.255.0 so its on the same network. Rattling of the evil machine returns "destination host unreachable". Ping to it from any other device returns the same. esxcfg-NICS - l is the network card. Route - n shows exactly the same output as my other work esx host.

This workshop is entirely on its own network. All devices are networked through a simple switch 16-port Dell 2216 with any VLAN or whatever it is.

I tried all sorts of troubleshooting a layer on my switch ports, including the passage of the cables, and finally pulling up the entire hard drive and put it in a same laptop to rule out a bad network card. I also went into the bios and adapted settings my host to work to avoid any possible problem of allocation of resources.

One strange thing I noticed. When I run esxcfg-nics command on my network card work esx host is displayed. When I pull on the cable and run the command, it displays down. Plug it in again, almost immediately goes back to the top. However, when I try the same process on this machine of boredom, the NIC appears whether or not the cable is connected some sort of funny business going on here. What Miss me?

EDIT: I could have taken the lead on this one.  I see now that speed is 0MBPS and is half-duplex.  I gave the esxcfg-NICS-s-100 d full vmnic0 command but esxcfg-NICS-l does not reflect them.  I'll try a reboot, but I think this is probably my problem.

Faulty network card causes a problem of driver especially problem run miit-tool to check the duplex speed and also his ping locally? stop the firewall during the tests of time and running tcpdump on interface to control icmp traffic.
