ESX host is not responding

Hello

now, I have a problem.

a customer has 3 blade IBM HS23.

because in the course of the last 7 months I had 4 times the host esx became offline / insensitive

all the vm continue to operate therefore continues to operate production

ESX host do not react on SSH connection or telnet

I can connect after pressing F2 and F12, but then the host everything crashes

I can't connect to the vi to the ESX host client either.

all hosts are installed on the IBM's USB drive

the only thing to solve it is to off the blades and start again

also random sound. I had 3 months running good, good running 1 day and 3 weeks running good

the vpxd.log file displays only the waiting times to communicate with the esx host and then the error offline

already updated all my firmware (chasis, blades, storage, fiber brocade and IBM switches)

I started with vsphere 5.5 u1 U1 and ESXI 5.5 IBM. already updates on vsphere 5.5 U2 and 5.5 ESXi vmware u2 (since ibm doesn't have an ESXi custom 5.5 u2)

im stuck... lil last event is on 16/01/2015 (and ibm will not support since there only subscription for 3 years and no software support contract)

one last point, I'm under bacup veeam and 7.x replication but don't see a problem there.

Thanks in advance.

I found the problem

I've restarted only iSCSI data store and all ESXi hosts becomes sensitive

so, after searching for the qnap forum I noticed that they have released an update on 29/01/2015

test of the firmware now and see what happens

If this fails, I guess the qnap ts - 469L is not taken in charge more for vsphere 5.5

Thank you all for the suggestions

  • Manually migrate virtual machines from the host is not responding.

I have a 3 host cluster.  One of the guests became unresponsive.  Continue to run all the virtual machines connected to the host is not responding and I can't RDP for them.  I am able to SSH to the host does not respond, but not connect via vCenter.

Restart the services will cancel the virtual machines running?  If this isn't the case, then what is the command to restart the services?

What is the best plan to manually migrate those virtual machines for the other two hosts?

SSH, cd to \usr\sbin, then run "services.sh restart" (without the quotes). Which will restart management services, with no impact to your VM. Then you should be able to re - connect with Vcenter.

  • ESX host does not not in vcenter

    Nice day

I have two ESX 4 hosts in a cluster configuration, each running several virtual machines.  Yesterday afternoon, something happened to one of the hosts and now he is in a State of "not responding" in vcenter, and I can not ping to the host or the ping from the console of the host.  Fortunately the other host took over the failed host VMs for now.  The physical box that the failed host runs on seems to be fine, in addition to the switch between the two hosts.  From the ESX console on the failed host, the network configuration is correct, all network cards are up, so I don't know what I should check then.  Any ideas as to where the problem may be?

    Thank you very much!

If there is no virtual machines running on this host, you should try a reboot.  pass may have crashed.

  • ESX host will not use VMotion

    Hi all

I have a question maybe someone can help.

I installed two new ESX hosts in their own cluster, managed by a single data center environment.

After the installation and updates, adding them to the Cluster environment and adding new licenses to the license server VC.

I have one of the two ESX host who won't use VMotion. Everything is allowed as should be. But in the section of the Add On to the Configuration of the license, I see the following:

VMware DRS Licensed for 2 cpu

VirtualCenter for ESX Server Licensed agent for 2 cpu

    VMotion will not used

VMware Consolidated Backup for 2 cpu license

VMware HA under license for 2 cpu

    Additional details:

Both servers in the cluster are identical hardware profiles: Intel 3.2Gig Xeon, 2 cavities 4 hearts, no HT.

    32Gig of RAM, (Proliant DL380 G5)

The two servers connected to the SAN via Fibre Chanel Switch, redundant.

Concert NIC ((VMNic 0 (Console 1), VMNic 1 (Standby adapter), VMNic 2 (Console 2) (the Virtual Machine Network), (VMkernel), (ports of vSwitch 56 none VLAN not defined) VMNic 3 (Standby adapter)).)

No errors in the Logs of license, the Console message, etc. Everything seems in good health with no update needed.

Both servers see the unique data store, created on the same SAN which it connects through the switch channel.

VMFS 3.31.  Unique data store with several extensions (8 in total, the creation of a size of 15 to storage).

    Any ideas?

All my other hosts using VMotion, but it does not work and there is no difference in configuration, I know.

    Thank you

  • ESX host is not accessible

    Hi all:

I lost connection to my host ESX 3.5, I can not connect directly through the VI client or through Virtual Center Server, not even through web browser. But I am able to ping the server. I can also access it from the console and PuTTY. Where should I start troubleshooting. Is there a way I can check the disk space on the host? I wonder if the disk is full, recently I copied iso images to the directory \vmimages.

    Thank you

After restarting the mgmt-vmware service, it is also advisable to restart after services on ESX:

    service vmware-vpxa restart

    restarting the service vmware-vmkauthd

command to check the disk space is vdf h (if will also see the disk space on the volume (data warehouses) vmfs)

  • HA when ESX host are not equal to each other

    Hello

Please, describe me my misunderstanding of HA...

I have 3 servers ESX and 2 of them have 4 CPU 1 only have 2 CPU. I can create cluster HA with these 3 hosts, and if I can - how VM is migrated to ESX with 2 CPU, when one or two ESX with 4 CPUS will fail, in case when I have VMS with 4 CPUS per VM (even though admission control will be disable)?

A vm with v 4cpus will not be able to be propelled to a host with only 2 physical processors. HA will not be able to failover in this case, even if the HA admission control is disabled.

  • Host is not responding

A host in a cluster 2 nodes is disconnected. I can ping and vms are works ok.

I can not connect via putty or using the console remote ILO.

I can't think of all the other options for the power cycle that's at this time and let HA do it's thing.

Unfortunately, most of the virtual machines in this small group are running on this host.

Any other ideas? Let go and see if she becomes sensitive?

JAL very good in theory, but difficult in practice.

  • ESX Server does not respond in VCenter

Hello everyone, I am looking for some help with a problem I have right now.  I was able to find a similar thread, but it was not resolved, so here are my symptoms.

I have a 3.5 running ESX Server.  In VCenter, the system shows callous and all of the associated virtual machines are disconnected.  However, ESX server and virtual machines are running correctly.  If I try to use the VI Client to connect directly to the ESX box, you receive an error "server has taken too much time to react."  Interface Web doesn't either.  However, the SSL connection via port 22 works fine and I am able to work with the system.  I had this problem before and a reboot of the server ESX solved the problem, but which forced me to all virtual machines down and then reboot ESX.  The ESX box shows no errors when I have ILO on the console.

Can anyone give me any help is appreciated.

Have you tried to restart the management agent with

    [for service mgmt-vmware restart

    on the console?

    Kind regards

  • ESX SERVER is not responding

  • HA does not not as expected on the ESX host

    Hello

I have a cluster with ESX 3 (v3.5 Update4) node that is configured to use HA & Drs During a practice session to the ESX host that I found that if I simulate a hard failure of one of the nodes in the cluster, ESX all guests arriving to run on this host VM will automatically starts not themselves on another ESX host after x amount of time. What I've done so far to solve problems is the following:

    1. allowed Virtual Machine put in power under the Configuration tab on each ESX host. Then, I moved that no matter what VM Autostart submenu in there appearing. This step is repeated on each ESX host

One thing to note after that: when the host has been stopped, the virtual machine would properly failover to another ESX host but not itself power on. I got feed manually on the client.

    2. I disabled the resource constraints under the Cluster Edition settings Menu to enable the machine to power on no matter what

There is nothing to change the question

    3. I fiddled with the priority of restarting the virtual machine in question to see if it would help, but it made no difference

    4. I enabled Virtual Machine control and settings left to 'High '.

    It has nothing

There are two messages that I keep seeing in the case where the window of the Cluster:

Failure of failover for the guest in question Warning Message

Not enough resources for the warning of the cluster failover

There are many resources available, so I do not know whence this second message. DNS seems in good condition I can solve the hosts & guests all with success in a direct and reverse search.

My goal here is to have the guest virtual computer turn itself on one of the other guests of the ESX cluster.

Any help would be appreciated... Thank you

Look in "response to isolation" on setting HA. Did you put it "Leaves the virtual machine" setting turned on or turned off?

If market, your host another try not to put the virtual machines from the virtual machines might still running on the original host, which can cause some collide ie.swap in use, the locked configuration files & etc.

  • Make a single LUN can be used by multiple ESX hosts

Is it possible for a single LUN to be made usable by multiple ESX hosts at the same time?  For example, if you have an image or used by a vSphere environment requiring other vSphere environments in the data center access, you can put the image on a storage place where completely separate ESX hosts vSphere environments completely separate can see the same lun and clone the image or necessary?

If the logic unit number is locked by accessed by an ESX host will be lock expires when the ESX host is not an another ESX host in another environment vSphere allowing access to the logical unit number, or is the lock, as it is usable by a single ESX host, until the storage is reconfigured to make it usable by a different host?

Is there a better solution to this scenario?

    Thank you

You can deploy both at the same time.  Locking occurs only for changes to metadata and only for the shooting of subsecond.  It is not required for the entire deployment process.

  • BladeCenters and ESX host

Excuse me, but my brain is developing a white.  I remember something at the time where the host esx bladecenters came together than if you had several bladecenters and more than 4 or 5 esx host in the same cluster of ESX that you must make sure that not more than 4 or 5 of these esx hosts were not on the same bladecenter.  He had something to do with the power of failover and HA or vmotion would fail because all the master something would have been on the esx host on the bladecenter has died.  I'm sorry if I can't explain it better, but nobody knows what I mean and how to configure these master host so call to be distributed on several bladecenters.

    Thank you.

You will love when that happens?

Happens to me all the time

He's right, HA refers to primary and secondary and that changes based on what affect the HA, if a host goes down or if a HA is reinstalled.  Duncan did a very good job of explaining HA and enter the primary and secondary.

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/VMware-high-availability-deepdiv/

I also believe that it is where I heard mention the same thing you're talking about.  We do the same thing in our data center - spread the blades between chasis. Duncan, I think even goes further by telling you how to manually set the primary and secondary feathers.

    See you soon,.

  • You can restart nfs storage WITHOUT having to reboot ESX host?

    Hi community

I wanted to know what your experience has been reset to the nfs storage devices WITHOUT having to restart the ESX servers. I can stop the virtual machines that use the storage, but would like to avoid off ESX hosts as they require a visit to the data center for put in operation and I can do all the rest of the House.

My options are either then restart the ESX host (that I can do it remotely of course) or the ESX Server restores in the nfs storage when it is up?

This is the first time such a restart will be required so I use

this as a learning experience and the VMs on those ESX hosts are not

criticism.  (although don't tell users which.) )

    Thanks in advance

    Yes, of course you can.

ESXes automatically reverts to the storage.

  • help help... ESX host shows that only ANSWERS DO NOT

    Hello

I have the ESX host, who said State says "NOT RESPONDING" status virtual Center, but the host's who responded and I am able to connect to the console using PuTTY... Can someone help me what could be the problem to show the status as no ANSWERS DO NOT... I do not see that error correct logs in the logs events and... The virtual machine that is hosted on the ESX host also works very well and im able to RDP to it with all the problems but in VM, it shows as disconnected...

ASK YOU TO HELP ME QUICKLY BECAUSE IT IS IN THE PRODUCTION...

    Hey Shashi,

If the ESX host is unresponsive defeated VC if you can connect to the host ESX via VI Client, if yes, then the service pass works very well and you need to troubleshoot the service virtual Center on the esx host agent. You many consider them raise all initially with order # service vmware-vpxa restart

If you are unable to connect to the ESX host using VI Client, restart the service spend using service # mgmt - vmware restart and check the logs # tail f /var/log/vmware/hostd.log check for errors/progress.

Also look at kb.vmware.com for that matter and you'll find some articles that may help you solve problems.

    All the best
