ESXi 5.1.0 and updates issue
Hi all
I have a certain ESXi 5.1.0 servers that are outdated with respect to updates. If I find what version/patch level I'm on and update all patches from there or can I everything simply to apply the latest update and get all of the fixes that are included in the other updates?
What is your experience with this?
Thank you!
Hello
VMware release individual patches/updates to update / security fixes necessary but periodically they will release an update rollup or a new version which includes all updates prior to this date. Between these stacks of additional individual fixes may be rejected you will need to find a facility manually unless your strategy is to wait for the next cumulative, so you need to consider your political correctness as to how you will address the issue, if you get the patches as they become available or just apply the cumulative patches and releases and major updates.
However, the best way to handle this is via the Update Manager if you have installation, you can automatically download all updates, update rollups, patches, fixes, etc. and create base lines which will do the work for you in the host of scan and identify the what patches are missing, and make sure you can get them all to the same correction level , but in the short term, you can install the latest update (eg. 5.1 update 3) and which will include all the updates up to the date of release of this update. To make sure you can see the Release Notes to confirm exactly what patches and fixes are included in each version.
Hope this helps

Difference of ESXi hosts between analysis of updates and patches of scene
Hello
I have two ESXi hosts with round about 700 applicable patches.
What is the difference between "stage Patches"und"search for updates"?
Do I need maintenance mode for the scene fixes?
Kind regards
Roland
Hello
Scan for updates will scan the hosts against the basic lines of patch you have attached to them and to report on the status of this host against the base line, so, essentially, Scan for updates will tell you what patches and updates to your departure are absent from the host if the return "non-compliant" or "compliant" if all patches are already installed. It can also return 'Unknown' or 'Inconsistent' according to the status of the host and other factors.
Step will basically copy all files to update and patch that must be installed to the willing host for the conversion, which will be more actually to install patches. Staging of updates to date does not make service, you don't need to put the host in maintenance mode, while the staging, the host must be in service during the reclamation mode. You can trigger a reorganization without staging, but the benefit of the staging is, first of all, you will reduce the amount of time that your host is out of action because all patches and updates are already in place in anticipation of final approval, which means that the rehabilitation phase is much faster.
I hope this helps.

Hello
I installed vcenter and update manager as a virtual machine host.
Now when I want to use the update patch of the host Manager, it takes all the vm to stop.
Obviosly if I stop the VM guests, this includes the vm vcenter himself who then stops updates.
I tried to connect directly to the host without vcenter but then there is no Update Manager.
Any way around this?
Thank you
Chris
I would start by setting up the vmware in your main site environment - Essentials you are able to use the vmotion and HA - vmotion you will deal with the current issue - would you be able to vmotion virtual machines on a host and update without havomg yp sjut down virtual machines. With HA you will be covered in the event of hardware failure - if an ESXi host to crash the system VMs automatiically will restart on the remaining hosts.
Bit please be aware vmotion and HA require shared storage - either SAN (iSCSI and storage FC0 or NAS/NFS -

Configuration Manager Manager and update
Hi all
What is the difference between Configuration Manager and Update Manager?
Thank you
Djamel
Hello
They are certainly different products from Troy, but both have their uses for security. VUM is necessary to determine the status of patches and fixes, while configuration manager will monitor your systems configuration drift (to some extent) is Host Profiles. But Config Manager monitors your systems for both compliance issues.
The two types of tools are necessary for good security.

Every time I start Firefox I get on my desktop check Add ons compabillity and Firefox open, never had this before, how can this be resolved.
I've updated from version 25 (25.1?) to 31 version and updated all my modules at a time. Whenever I started Firefox it would check compatibility and open the pages for all the Add-ons. I tried all of the suggestions posted here without success. I loaded a backup of my system and just tried to update the add-on and it's the same thing. What I was finally load a backup of my system, delete all the Add-ons, Firefox update and then go back new versions of Add-ons one at a time. It was a chore, but it worked. (In millions of possible computer, millions of unique & fixed issues configurations.)

I am running XP Professional 2002 SP3 on an Intel Core 2 T5500 @ 1.66 GHz Sony Vaio laptop. I have Windows Firewall turned on and I have BitDefender Total Security 2010 installed. I use the Mozilla Firefox browser and I have no problems connecting to the internet or to any other software.
Whenever I start my laptop I'm invited to download 2 updates and every time I stop I'm invited to click to install downloads. It's always the same downloads, which are:
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688)
A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
Even after downloading and installing successfully these updates immediately get the yellow shield on the task bar telling me: "updates are ready for my computer 'if I click on install these updates, it is exactly the same updates again!
See the "How to get help" and "Known issues" section of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954430

BSOD in Windows 7 since the addition of Office 07 and updates Windows.
How can I keep my computer from HP 1 month (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) to close down and blue-screening at random times? First thing I did when I got it was to slowly add programs I used on XP safely in the past. I run Comcast w/McAfee and virus scan came negative. However, just recently, I added Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate Steal and updates the Microsoft appearing to all appropriate... I think that's when the trouble started. Since then, I had random and/or closures crashes. All the expert advice would be appreciated. Thank you!!!

Trying to clean up the hard drive, among other things, I found the following in files
XP [start /control Control Panel / Add or remove programs / currently installed programs and updates]
22 updates for ms office 2003 dating from 22/01/2007.
8 updates for the 2007 office system compatibility pack that goes back to the 10/02/2010
190 updates for Windows XP, which dates back to the 29/06/2006
6 updates for windows xp media center edition 2005, which dates back to the 29/06/2006
Are all these necessary, and if not, how can I do to clean them?
Thank you.
Hi Renee-me,
I recommend that you do not uninstall the updates that are installed on your computer.
Windows Update makes the secure PC and helps run smoothly.
For more information, refer to this link: Windows Update
We suggest to delete the Windows updates only in troubleshooting an issue that may have been caused by an update. Refer to KB 310312 for more information on how to use the disk cleanup to free up space on the hard disk.
Hope the helps of information.

My Windows 7 Pro system has some serious hardware, internet connection and security issues.
My efforts to remedy by restoring a system image backup failed. At this point, I'm ready for a new clean install if I have to buy a drive to do. My question is whether a professional Ultimate upgrade will or will not fix these bugs. In addition, what is the cause of restoring the system to fail? I never turned off or cannot create regular restore points.

Hello
1 re-installing/repairing software will not fix hardware issues.
2. the operating system upgrade is not the way to solve computer problems that can be carried forward.
3 1. If you use Norton, you should disable Norton inviolable Protection before using System Restore.

AVG will cause problems with SR too.

Hi all, right now I am facing a problem to download and update of the applications from the windows store after an update of my windows. I am currently using 8 64-bit windows. When I try to download apps I get the 0x80073cf error code. Many thanks if someone can help me solve this problem.
Hi Yang,
Thank you for keeping us posted on the State of the computer.
If everything has been removed from the computer and a Windows.old folder is created, then it is probably a Custom Installation or the reset which took place in the computer. But anyway, let's verify the present question in the computer.
You said that you are not able to reinstall your apps from the Store. What exactly happens when you try to reinstall your applications on the Store? You get an error code?
You can view the article at the following link once and see if information in there helps you get the resettlement app issue resolved:
Why can't find or install the application on the Windows Store?
