Expand a VM HDD - ESXi 5.1.0

Hi guys

I'm under VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 with vSphere Client 5.1.0.

I created a new virtual machine running CentOS 6.5 with capacity of 40 GB HARD drive.

Now, I would like to expand the capacity of the HARD disk of this virtual machine from 40 GB to 100 GB. For this, I already have stop the machine virtual and edited the settings of the virtual machine by increasing the size of 40 GB to 100 GB HARD drive. This change of HARD drive does not appear on the side of the BONE.

What is the correct procedure for me to get there?

The output of the command df - H of Centos VM have the following output:

[root@Pantelcent ~] # df h

Size of filesystem used Avail use % mounted on

/ dev/map/vg_pantelcent-lv_root 40 G 5.6 G 33 G 15%.

tmpfs 2.1 G 78 k 2.1 G 1% / dev/shm

/ dev/sda1 508M 59 M 424M 13% / boot

[root@Pantelcent ~] #.

Look forward to a useful form helps the community.

Concerning

This issue has been resolved with the lvextend and resize2fs command command

lvextend-L / tracking the path of the logical volume that you want to increase.

Ex: lvextend-L100G/dev/map/vg_pan-lv_root

After that, I applied the following command to increase the size of file system to match:

resize2fs/dev/map/vg_pan-lv_root

He did the trick for me

Thanks again for the recommendations.

  • 5 - USB or HDD ESXi installation location?

I intend on creating a stand-alone ESXi server to run several virtual machines.  HP is envisaged for the seller.  There will be no external storage, all storage will be aboard running, probably in raid 10 or maybe 1.

My quesiton is this: what would be the ideal installation location for ESXi?  Can I install using an internal USB or flash?  Or would it be better to simply install on the internal HDD RAID non-commercialise all storage is in local?  I am currious what those of you would recommend?

    Thank you

There is a problem with the ESXi on local RAID which has already been mentioned here and in referenced posts:

If you have the need to increase available disk space by putting more physical disks in the box and expanding your RAID volume then it will become very difficult to the data on the RAID volume if extended VMFS volume you have ESXi installed on it. It is always possible, but requires hacks of ugly command line (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2002461).

On the other side if you have ESXi installed on a device separate (such as a USB key) you can easily develop the VMFS volume in vSphere client GUI.

  • See 4.6 - What version of vCenter is necessary?

    Greetings-

I have a (rather small) client that (3) is deploying about (6) ESXi hosts virtual machines running server. Customers want to implement a small view 4.6 deployment (about 20 customers). The customer is currently using vCenter Foundation Edition since they are only (3) ESXi hosts. My question is should the customer move to vCenter Standard Edition to implement see 4.6? Obviously if the customer is seeking to expand the number of ESXi hosts then upgrade to vCenter Standard Edition would be required but for this first deployment of view 4.6 I wanted to make sure that that vCenter Standard Edition was not necessary.

    THX in advance

    Joe.

There are different ways to buy.  You can buy view add on which allows you to take advantage of your existing licenses vSphere/vCenter in the environment or you can buy the view bundle which comes with vCenter and vSphere licenses that can be used to view office workloads.

    Hello

While I am trying to install ESXi on a Dell M630 Blade Server, it does not detect the storage drives to install on. I use a Dell certified 500 GB 7.2 K rpm NLSAS 6Gbps in 2.5 Hot plug Seagate (model number hard drive ST9500620SS).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

In some cases, it may be necessary to clean the partition table on the disk. In any case, depending on your hardware, components, you may need to use custom Dell ESXi image, which includes additional drivers to take support the Dell hardware. You will find the image at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/poweredge-m630/drivers. Simply change the ESXi 5.5 operating system and expand the 'Business Solutions '.

  • VMWARE ESXI - expand Datastore

    Hello

We plan to add the physical storage to an esxi server we have running and the need to expand the data store.

Question is it possible and it will cause questions about our ESXI server if we do the growth/increase in the data store once we add it.

We have the installer of storage to the table in a certain way and I was wondering if adding more storage will cause problems with this table.

I read the article: on the growth or expansion of the data store.

You can do this online without problems of ESXi and procedures, refer to the documentation: increase capacity of VMFS data store

    Hello forum,.

I bought a relatively new desktop for my studies of cisco computer. I am completely new to exsi and took notes on the net to install esxi.

In "Select a disk to install or upgrade", I am unable to see the two hard drives.

    I have,

I tried to format the two hard drive using windows 7 and tried to install Esxi 6, but the two remains undetected.

ESXi is built for server hardware, he may simply not support your disk controller. Since it is a lab environment, you can check if VMware experience before: how to make your unsupported work SATA AHCI Controller with ESXi 5.5 and 6.0 helps build a custom installation image that runs on your hardware.

  • USB or HDD space for new server ESXi 5.5 updated 3 current enforcement?

    Hello

We get a new DELL server to run ESXi 5.5 update 3.

Just find out there is an embedded version of ESXi 5.5 update 3 on a USB is connected.

We would like to know what meaning it is best to run ESXi - USB or Local HARD disk?  I think that if she runs on the Local HARD disk, we can remote access via DRAC card.   In addition, we do not use any local HD (i.e. no VSAN) and so there is no loss if VMware runs on the HD.

    Your opinion is requested.

    Hello.

With ESXi on USB/SD is supported by VMware, so no problem here. Remember that if you use these devices, you'd probably set the partition scratching at some storage 'persistent '. I personally use one of the data stores for all guests, I have it in one place.

I don't understand why you assuming that through a port USB as a boot device will not provide access to DCUI via the DRAC? Boot device has no importance here...

  • Size HDD 4.1.0 ESXi matters

    Hello

I have a HP ProLiant ML150 G6 2 warehouses with the two of them to 931,25 GB.  I'm having issues, do a hard drive inside a small business 2011 VM server size largest them 256 GB.  Currently, this system has a 200 GB drive for the exchange server and the operating system.  The second disc is 256 GB for shared folders.  I wish I could enlarge readers since they are the two full 90%.  I'm not afraid to add another drive from the data store, but I wish it were 500 GB instead of 256 GB.  Also I'm upgrading in the near future, this machine to ESX1 5.x.  If this update will fix the problem of size of hard drive that I have so I'll do it sooner then later.

I also use the new backup version of PhD.  I'm not able to save the second disc with PHD because it is listed as a drive (persistent) independent.  Is that what I can change this way so I can save this drive also.  I also believe that this is because the size of the hard disk max I have is 256 GB and backup is almost 375 GB if I do two disks.

Some other information that might be useful:

    Processors: E5506 @2. 13 GHz

    CPU cores per socket: 4

    Logical processors: 8

    Total: 22518,7 MB

    System: 570,7 MB

    VMS: 21948,0 MB

Up to 256 GB of memory
    Up to 4-way virtual SMP
    for ESX Server vCenter agent
    vStorage API
    VMsafe
    dvFilter

    Health status:

    Fields ALL: normal

No, no, unless something unexpected happens (in any case, a backup is always a good idea).

When you upgrade your host (after checking the hardware is supported for ESXi 5.x) interactively using the CD, select 'upgrade, keep VMFS'. This will only enhance the operating system. Once the upgrade of power on the host and click on the "upgrade to VMFS5... "link for the data store.

  • is it possible to expand a raid 10 on ESXi?

    Hello

I would like to know if it is possible to extend RAID 10 on EXSi Server (local storage).

    Example:

ESX storage is on 6x146GB in Raid 10.

Can transparent add 2x146GB readers or maybe even 2x300GB

    Thank you.

    Michael.

RAID configurations are based on the material, just check your RAID if its able to detect new hard drives and adds controller RAID existing installation, thereafter it would just a reconstruction of the RAID at incorporates additional disks and subsequently in ESXi server the size of the data store is also increased.

    Kind regards

USB virtualization is not yet available in ESX/ESXi 3.x or 4.0.

    Maybe in the future releases.

  • MOVE VM IMAGES FROM HDD to SAN ESXI - Please HELP!

    Hello

I don't know if this is possible, but if possible I'd really be very happy for any help that anyone can provide. I have an ESXi server where there was a picture of Microsoft Exchange VM on. Currently, the image is too large to stay on the ESXi server and we bought a SAN. I can not figure out how to move this image from the disk HARD original to the SAN. The SAN is saved in the ESXi and he sees it as an additional HARD disk space. How can I move the image to that storage?

    Thank you!!!

    James

You may download a trial version of VC - it will work for the days 30 (or 60).

The other option is to use the browser of data store and copy all the files (of your vm directory) to the new directory created on your new san vmfs volume.

VMware Converter could do it too.

Is that what you have already created a new vmfs volume on your San?
